Through the B.C. Air Access Program, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure cost shares with public airports on projects such as lighting and navigational systems, terminal building expansion or upgrades, and runway improvements. These types of projects allow airports to improve safety and accommodate larger aircraft and more frequent flights, supporting the continued growth of local and provincial economies. The program also encourages funding partnerships with the federal government, local and regional governments and agencies, and the private sector. B.C. on the Move is investing $24 million over the next three years for the B.C. Air Access Program. This year’s funding allocation is approximately $6 million.

A lack of Volunteer Services by Indo-Canadian CommunityAir Show Volunteer, Mandeep K. Brar
olunteering services are strongly valued and appreciated in Canadian culture. While many Canadians enjoy volunteering their time to the community, young Indo-Canadians do not show interest in dedicating their time, perhaps because they do not gain financially from doing so. However, these services play an essential role in Canadian values and are highly significant to Canadian identity. Youth who are involved in community-wide services are both respected and appreciated. A prominent name in community-wide volunteering initiatives, Mandeep Kaur Brar, daughter of, Mr.Lakhbir Singh Brar, and mother,Surinder Kaur Brar, natives to the Village of Sukhanand near Bhaga Purana (Moga), started volunteering as soon as she started school. Lakhbir Singh Brar immigrated to Mission, B.C in 1988, and soon after moved to Abbotsford. Mandeep Kaur immigrated to Canada in 1991 along with her mother when she was seven months of age. She started her education at Clearbrook Elementary School, continued at Gordie Howe Middle School, and finally graduated from W.J Mouat Secondary.
In 2013, Mandeep Kaur completed her undergraduate studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, and continues her education as she is currently enrolled in a Master of Arts in Psychology program. Mandeep has been a dedicated member of the Abbotsford Air Show, and has served as the president of the air show services for the past seven years. Despite having 30-35 members as a part of her volunteer team, she would like to have more volunteers.Planning for this event starts as early as April by the committee,at this time ten volunteers are needed. Mandeep holds the executive chair position for this committee. Duties of the committee include supervising all the volunteer services provided, as well as organizing food for the volunteers. She has also volunteered her services with the Vancouver Canucks, and continues to volunteer at the annual Canada Day parade in Abbotsford as well as serving the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre for the past seven years.

he Abbotsford International Airshow Society is receiving $60,000 in support thanks to Community Gaming Grants announced Abbotsford West MLA Michael de Jong.
“The Abbotsford International Airshow Society is extremely pleased to receive this grant which helps us to continue to produce Canada’s National Airshow and one of the world’s Top Ten Airshows, said Abbotsford International Airshow president Jim Reith. “This funding is a critical piece of our budget process enabling us to bring in the best aerial performers in the world. We truly appreciate the partnership with the Government of British Columbia and the Community Gaming Grant program which allows us to continue to offer a world class event.” In 2013 USA Today rated the Abbotsford International Airshow as one of the top ten airshows in the world. This year’s program titled Aces Warriors & Wingmen includes a commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of

Three jet formation teams will appear along with three jet fighter demonstrations from the USAF, USN and the RCAF. These grants have been awarded under the Arts and Culture category of the Community Gaming Grant Program, which allows non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. Gaming Grants are also awarded in the categories of Sport, Public Safety, Environment and Human and Social Services. “This drug combination creates another curative treatment option for people infected with hepatitis C genotype 1, the strain affecting most British Colombians,” said Dr. Mel Krajden, medical head, hepatitis for the B.C. Centre for Disease Control. “With new treatments that will soon be able to cure all of the hepatitis C strains, it’s imperative that people within affected communities, healthcare providers and governments to work together to make treatment available to those in need.”
These new drugs are swallowed as a pill, and are therefore easier to take. I see a horse’s hoof slicing through the air. I see Kartar Singh loose again somewhere out there seeking my jugular. Everywhere I look I see signs… An insomniac Hopkinson continues to pad about his house during all hours, sleep-walking or wide awake at odd hours, winding and rewinding clocks in the house, loudly opening and closing closet doors and cabinet drawers. He re-examines his costume meticulously for ticks, repeatedly airing out the indigo-dyed turban the colour of sky. He fidgets with locks and latches on doors and windows, adjusting curtains when dark to prevent any light from escaping and informing anyone watching on the outside. There have been recent attacks on the Indians living in the adjoining neighborhood. In one incident, a bomb was tossed into a house, and neighborhood children were discouraged from wandering into the Hindutown. Could it happen here so close to the Indian Mission, in this house, if the men outside knew he or his family were still inside? In the grip of a series of repeating nightmares, Hopkinson finds himself in
