A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR A great school year starts now! All of you will be thrilled with the new dress, new books, new friends and new teachers available in the new academic year. I suggest you develop some new work habits too. Make the first move Some of you may feel nervous while meeting new people. Start small. If large groups make you nervous, try saying ‘hello’ to one or two new people a day. Take an initiative in making friends. Plan ahead. It is often said, “Early bird catches the worm”. Get a wall calendar or personal planner. Mark the dates of exams - midterms, finals and other tests. List any other time commitments you have like football practice or play rehearsals. You have to organize all your activities based on this plan. Be prepared. Pack your school bag every night and make sure you have everything for the next day's classes. This prevents you from experiencing the morning panic. Be attentive. Paying attention in the class and taking down proper notes can actually pay off in the long run. It will be much helpful at the time of exams. If you do more academic work at school, you'll have less to do at home. Learn smart work habits. Based on your planner, prepare a 'To do list' for the next day. Acting on a check list is one of the secrets of high achievers. Learn life skills. School is a place to learn new things and make new friends. It is also a place to learn skills like organizing and decision making that will come in handy for the rest of your life. Be thankful Be thankful to your friends, teachers, school management and your parents. If you are thankful for what you have, you will end up enjoying yourself more. Be serious about your studies and have fun with your friends. School days are the best days of your life.
