Festival welcome This year the Puppet Animation Festival is twenty five years old. The UK’s oldest and largest annual performing arts event for children and young people, last year over 20,000 children young people and adults enjoyed our events

In 2009, once again we present the best of puppetry and animation from Scotland and the rest of the UK, as well as a classic production created by leading French company,Velo Theatre, that has been seen and enjoyed by audiences all over the world This year, with over 300 puppetry and animation performances and workshops throughout Scotland to tell you about, we have organised our Festival brochure in a different way.To make it easier for you to find all the information you need about events in your area we have divided our national brochure into five smaller, regional booklets The Festival still reaches as much of Scotland as it has always done, and if you would like to find out about any of our events in other parts of the country please visit our website for complete information www.puppetanimationfestival.org

Performances That’s Rubbish Dragonfly Dreaming Puppet Theatre Duration 50mins Ages 4 yrs + Skiprat’s looking for his lunch, but all he can find is rubbish....and it’s talking to him...What the skip’s going on? Join Skiprat - and his rubbish - as they take us on a journey from polystyrene to potato skins, via a supermarket to the local dump. Old Mother Hubbard and Her Cupboard Garlic Theatre Duration 45mins Ages 3 yrs + Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to fetch her poor dog a bone, but when she got there, the cupboard was bare...or was it? The Frog Prince & Other Tales Kidgloves Puppets Duration 45mins Ages 4 yrs + Spoilt Princess Stephanie is on the lookout for a handsome Prince. Meanwhile the golden ball she has taken from the palace without permission drops down a well. In order to get it back, Princess Sophie finds herself having to promise to kiss a frog...a promise she has no intention of keeping! Will she mend her ways and what will be the reward? Willie the Wicked Wolf Over The Top Puppet Company Duration 45mins Ages 6 yrs + Willie is an outrageous but lovable rogue whose interests include food, motorbikes and rock ‘n’ roll. He plans to eat Granny and Red Riding Hood but fails miserably because of his unreliable motorbike. Luckily Granny is a good mechanic. Unluckily she is not a good driver...how will it end? Happily of course, if the audience helps! The Garden Guzzler Sylvia Troon Stories Duration 50mins Ages 3 yrs + It is crisis time for King and Queen Flowerpot! The sun and clouds are holding a contest to see who can most successfully ruin their beautiful garden! It’s up to Barker, the little flowerpot dog, to find Tubby and his magic trowel, to help. Performances Two Little Pushkin Tales The World Through Wooden Eyes Duration 50mins Ages 5 yrs + This colourful and stylish show presents two folk stories influenced strongly by the vivid styles and heritage of traditional Russian peasant life. In one an old man catches a golden fish – that can talk and grant wishes! – and his wife quickly gets some very grand ideas... In The Merchant And His Workman Ralda, a wealthy merchant who is very greedy tries to cheat a wise old peasant, but eventually gets his comeuppance! The Magic Horse Yugen Puppet Company Duration 40mins Ages 3 yrs + Fingal is seeking his fortune when his tired old horse is replaced by a magical one. He is taken to a Prince, who guides him to a Princess. She makes Fingal perform a number of tasks. But who will marry the Princess, Fingal or the Prince? In this story-telling show with audience involvement, performed in a vivid and colourful cloth setting of patchwork trees, fields and sky, children become courtiers, mountains and magnificent castles. Coming Alive! Felt Puppet Making Francisca Morton Duration 120mins Ages 5 yrs + A colourful and tactile felt and puppet making workshop. Using merino fleece, get wet and soapy felting over 3D head shapes. We will go on to create faces and bodies, inventing your own unique rod puppet. If time allows we will have the opportunity to develop character and practice some simple movements.This is a ‘Make and Take’ workshop. (Scissors and glue are provided and used.) Animation Film Workshop Red Kite Animation Duration Half day Ages 8-12 yrs Animation is closely connected with puppet theatre. At these animation workshops puppetstyle characters will be made and participants will be taught to act out scenes and stories in front of the camera.The theme of this year’s workshops is: Animated Inventions To Save The World! Workshops Puppet Making Workshop Zenwing Puppets Duration 120mins Ages 7 yrs + Come and make your own puppet and then bring it to life in a short presentation at the end of the workshop for your family and friends to see.
