Banyan Theatre Company

Duration 45mins The Fairytale Laundry is where - after a story is told - all the clothes, the knights and their armour, and the moon and the stars go for a bit of a polish. There’s so much work to be done! But who should turn up but Rumpelstiltskin, a funny wee man who is always ready to give a helping hand. With a cast of clothes pegs, a bulging wash basket and the odd colourful sock, Ailie Cohen returns with this delightful production “Ailie produces a startlingly imaginative feast...hugely enjoyable. Tremendous fun for all the family.” The Stage

Once upon a stormy night, while the wind and the rain were howling outside, the Royals were all tucked up warm in bed. Suddenly there was a knock at the door, and a very wet and untidy girl was brought inside... Become a part of this playful and comic story of a prince in search of a real princess, a clever queen, a girl who is not as she first appears, a tower of mattresses, and of course... a tiny pea. Banyan Theatre Company, one of England’s leading companies, presents The Polka Theatre production of this classic Hans Andersen story. “Very inventive stuff... the three year who accompanied this reviewer was quickly at ease and enthralled.” The Stage

Duration 50mins

The Wicked Wolf plans to have “Grannie for lunch and Little Rosie for afternoon tea!”. Find out how Red Riding Hood’s Magic Purse saves the day in this delightful show from one of Scotland’s most well known puppetry companies.

Come and reach for the stars, or at least for a kingdom in the sky, where Jack might find his fortune! Will he dodge a rather angry giant and get safely home? Clydebuilt also presents the classic story about three hungry goats and a very grumpy Troll.... lots of trippety-trap and fun with these beautifully made cloth puppets.

“This piece of children’s theatre is truly magical. The puppet is so well choreographed that it closely resembled reality, so much so that the story couldn’t help but grow wings and fly. The theatre exploded with giggles as I sat there and gobbled up the visual treats.”

Baskets and boxes, clothes lines and washing are imaginatively transformed into hills and a beanstalk, rivers and castles, in this gentle and colourful production for younger children. “Brilliant, I’ll never view my ironing board in quite the same way ever again.”

Duration 60mins

Duration 45mins

In the Beginning there was only ice and fire with the great emptiness of Ginnungagap in between...So begins the Creation of the World story told by the Norsemen of old. Gather around once more and hear stories of ODIN the King of the Gods, THOR and his mighty hammer and LOKI - the shape changer, adventurer and mischief maker.

Young Sigurd has a proud heritage but has never learned to fear anything or anyone. So he sets out to find someone who will teach him. After many adventures slaying dragons and rescuing maidens he finally meets Brunhilde, daughter of Odin. She teaches him the one emotion that no-one else could teach him - love!

Battle against Frost Giants, dodge magical beasts and enter into the excitement and danger of these stories, just as the children of the Norse once did.

Based on ancient Teutonic myths we follow Sigurd’s journey down the river Rhine as his inner path leads from brash and reckless childhood to experienced adult maturity.

A delightful and playful adaptation of this well known tale, with porridge and bears and onetwo-three chairs. A tale that’s not too BIG and not too small, but just right... But spring in the air puts a spring in our steps and one little girl with golden hair is always a step ahead. And when Little Bear gets lost, we will all have to go on a bear hunt! A story for everyone who can count to three from one of England’s leading puppetry companies. “Freehand Theatre’s superb creations are a joy to see. Join Alice on her magical adventure as she chases the White Rabbit back in time on a fantastic spiralling journey into Wonderland. Watch her change in size in this dream-like yet interactive shadow adaption inspired by the famous tale by Lewis Carroll.

Why do animals often have adventures in threes? As well as the classic tale of one hungry wolf and three frightened pigs, Kidgloves presents Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Help chase Wilfred the Wolf away, watch the goats outwit the troll and join in with the singing at the house of the Bears.

On her journey she meets the Cheshire Cat, a two-legged dragon and the March Hare at the medieval Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. But beware the Queen of Hearts or you might just lose your head! “The children were all transfixed and clearly enjoyed the performance… they all enjoyed seeing how the puppets worked at the end of the show too.” General Manager, Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Wales

Other tales presented are: ‘The Fox and the Crow’ and ‘Mary the Contrary Dragon’. All are told in Kidgloves’ gentle and humorous style with colourful hand held puppets and plenty of audience participation. “The audience were engaged for the entire duration with lots of ‘what’s next’ as the curtain ends one tale for another to begin... an all round winner.” EdinburghGuide.com

A puppeteer is happily going camping...until he discovers he has forgotten his tent! Luckily he has a big umbrella for shelter and woolly clothes to keep him warm...

Three royal brothers are ordered by their father, the King, to marry. Each prince must shoot an arrow high and far into the air, and must take as his bride whosoever finds and returns it. For the two eldest brothers their arrows are brought back by beautiful, perfect princesses.

A playful introduction to the art of mend-and –make-do leads to an exploration of wool making, which then quickly spins out of control...when the King - who desperately wants a new jumper - agrees to marry a girl who has caught his eye. She has to spin five skeins of wool a day until he has enough wool for a new jumper... if she can’t do it... it’s OFF WITH HER HEAD! “The characters are so expertly performed that after a while you forget that the old lady is really an old jumper, and the girl is made from a shoe, a pair of binoculars, and a scarf.”

But the third brother is surprised and dismayed when a frog brings back his arrow! But perhaps everything is not as it seems... A gentle and beautifully crafted adaptation of the well known Russian folk tale by one of Scotland’s leading companies. “Very impressed...the kids were talking about the show weeks later!” Promoter, New Deer Village Hall

The Water Kelpie Of Loch Ness

5-12

Yugen Puppet Company

Duration 50mins From the land of Baba Yaga and the little wooden hut on chicken’s legs, Snegurotchka or the Snow Maiden - is one of Russia’s most popular and well known folk stories. An aged couple of toymakers from a small country village wish so much for a child that they decide to make one of their own... from snow. But although the couple are so overjoyed when the Snow Maiden magically comes to life, Snegurotchka, - the talk of the village - always remains alone and cut off from everyone... After the success last year of Two Little Pushkin Tales the company returns with this elegant adaptation using beautiful paper puppets to tell this classic story.

Taken from our rich heritage of folk tales about the Loch Ness monster - or water kelpie - the most famous Scottish creature of all has its own special story to tell. This is a tale about one man’s quest to seek out the beast, which in darker ancient times has been terrorising the local countryside. He outwits the shape-shifting water horse and takes away its powers, but in doing so he inherits strong and magical abilities of his own. This new production from one of Scotland’s leading companies uses soundscapes inspired by Gaelic song, gentle and engaging storytelling, beautifully created puppets and striking animation in this beautiful adaptation.
