PSGA Senate Creates Diversity Committee www.PurchaseSGA.org Purchase, NY - The Purchase Student Government Association’s Student Senate recently approved the creation of an ad hoc committee on diversity. The creation of this committee is in direct response to the Student List of Demands received by the PSGA Senate on December 3. The demands were presented by a group of students, including club leaders from OAPIA, PUSH, and Sociology Club. The new committee, officially called the Diversity Committee, will be chaired by Jeremy Kinney, Senator for Alumni Village and Co-Director of Broken Spokes. It is charged with examining, building, and ensuring diversity throughout Purchase College. The General Programing Coordinator has also been charged with reporting their programming efforts to the Diversity Committee bi-weekly. The Major Events Coordinator must report their programming to the committee on a monthly basis. The Purchase Student Government Association (PSGA) is a nonprofit organization responsible for the money collected from the students’ Mandatory Student Activity Fee (MSAF). The organization funds and manages the Stood (and most of the shows and events that occur there), major events like Fall Fest and Culture Shock, and provides operating budgets to student-run clubs, organizations, and services. The Student Senate and its standing committees address the needs of the student body on a weekly basis and lobby the college on their behalf.
