The sports performance program at Purdue aims to provide a world-class training program to the school’s 500 student athletes, spanning 18 sports. Purdue Sports Medicine utilizes on-site daily care by the athletic training staff & team physicians, as well as consultants in orthopedics, dentistry, ophthalmology, neurology & other medical specialties in Greater Lafayette & Indianapolis. With the Mackey Project renovation, the athletic training area was expanded to 3 1/2 times its original size. Academic Excellence Purdue has earned 333 Academic All-Big Ten awards, which is the third-highest total in the conference. The Boilermakers’ team GPA in 2011-12 was once again among the highest at the NCAA Division I level, earning a CSCAA All-Academic Team Award. Purdue ranked as high as fourth nationally in 2008-09. The Boilermakers have averaged 12 Academic All-Big Ten members per season since the first awards came to Purdue following the 1986-87 campaign. Purdue has had 10 or more names on the Academic All-Big Ten team in every season but one since 1994-95.

Purdue Olympians
The Boilermakers have sent four athletes and two coaches to four Olympic Games. Purdue qualified two athletes for the 1948 Olympics in London and 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Current redshirt-freshman diver Mary Beth Dunnichay also represented Team USA at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing before enrolling at Purdue. Head diving coach Adam Soldati was part of the official USA Diving coaching staff at the 2012 Olympics in London, helping former Boilermaker David Boudia win two medals, including the gold in the men’s 10-meter platform.

International Competition In addition to the Olympics, Purdue was recently represented on the international stage at the 2009 World University Games. Following the completion of the 2008-09 season, Kara Cook and Ashley Karnes were selected to don the Red, White and Blue of Team USA. Karnes came home with a bronze medal courtesy of her third-place finish in 1-meter diving, while Cook earned a fifth-place finish in the synchronized platform competition.
