BODONI since 1798

A The Bodoni font is a well-known serif typeface series that has had a long history of interpretations by many design houses. However, it was first designed by Giambattisa Bodoni in 1798.

The Bodoni font distinguishes itself through the elegant shape, the contrast between the fine and thick lines and the strong emphasis of the vertical strokes. Bodoni is a popular font seen in almost every kind of typesetting situation, but particularly well suited for title fonts and logos.

Even though Bodoni was created in 1798, it still today conveys glamour and elegance. The style of Bodoni is modern, classic and fashionable, all at the same time. The style is born from the combination of its geometric form, light feel and the classic serif. Because of its sophisticated style with a modern twist, Bodoni is a popular typeface among the fashion industry. When you pick up any fashion magazine you may quickly spot Bodoni on the cover. Fashion magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and W Magazines use Bodoni as the base of their titles. Also, many high-end fashion brands utilize Bodoni in their logotypes. Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Zara, and Elizabeth Arden are good examples of that.

The letters don’t get their true delight, when done in haste & discomfort, nor merely done with diligence & pain, but first when they are created with love and passion. - Giambattista Bodoni

Q In addition to the strong contrast between the thick and thin strokes, Bodoni is also highly recognizable by its flat unbracketed hairline serifs and the small x-hight. Other characteristic features are Bodoni’s centered “Q” tail and a slight hook in the capital “J” extending below the baseline.

”Plenty of white space and generous line spacing, and don’t make the type size too miserly. Then you will be assured of a product fit for a king.” - Giambattista Bodoni
