If you open some creepy portal or summon an uncooperative demon, it's not our fault.
This was the cover for the July 2022 issue. Roe v. Wade had just been overturned. I was reeling. I was angry. I wanted to fight.
I'm not reeling, but I am still angry. I still want to fight. And so I do what I do best: I use my words.
"The pen is mightier than the sword." The phrase originated nearly 200 years ago, and it
is a sentiment I fully support. I feel a connection to it.
Perhaps it's because I am a writer. I like to think my words have an impact.
But I believe the bigger reason is because I share the words of others. My "higher calling," so to speak, is to provide a platform for others, not just to showcase my words for others to (continued on next page)

see. I look forward to seeing what my writers share each month.
In addition to providing a platform for sharing stories in this magazine, I am embarking on several book projects that seek to share stories on various topics. (I discuss one of those book projects, Paganism in the Bible Belt, in one of my articles this month.)
Nineteen issues into this passion project I am still trying to find our path, find the "voice" of the magazine. It's been a wonderful journey, and I hope to continue it for a long time to come. Each issue fills me with pride.
As always, I welcome your feedback. After all, this magazine is for you, Dear Reader.
I wish you Peace, Long Life, & Joy --

In the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade one year ago, the need for unwavering commitment to the fight for reproductive rights has never been more crucial. As witches and pagans, we understand the profound significance of choice, autonomy, and the sacredness of the human body. Our spiritual path compels us to protect and empower all individuals in their journeys, including the right to make decisions about their own bodies and reproductive futures. In this article, we explore why the battle for reproductive rights remains a vital cause for witches and pagans, urging us to unite our magical forces and champion the fundamental freedoms that underpin our beliefs.
Witchcraft and pagan traditions celebrate personal sovereignty and the power to shape one's own destiny. By advocating for reproductive rights, we honor these principles and acknowledge that true spiritual liberation extends to all facets of life, including the ability to make informed choices regarding our bodies, sexuality, and reproductive health.
Witches and pagans recognize the inherent divinity within all genders and embrace the sacredness of the feminine. The fight for reproductive rights safeguards the autonomy of individuals with uteruses and ensures that the life-giving power they possess is honored and respected. We understand that controlling one's reproductive choices is vital to the wellbeing and empowerment of those who embody the divine feminine.

Our spiritual practices emphasize the interconnectedness of all beings and the intricate web of life. Upholding reproductive rights strengthens the fabric of our communities and society as a whole. It enables individuals to make choices aligned with their personal circumstances, allowing families to thrive, relationships to flourish, and the collective to grow stronger.
As witches and pagans, we draw inspiration from the wisdom of our ancestors. Many of our traditions acknowledge the importance of ancestral lineage and the cycles of life. By fighting for reproductive rights, we ensure that future generations inherit a world where their choices are respected and their freedom to make decisions about their own bodies remains unassailable.
Our magickal practices often involve healing, both of ourselves and others. Reproductive rights are essential for the holistic well-being of individuals, encompassing physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects. By advocating for these rights, we contribute to the creation of a more compassionate society that values the holistic health and fulfillment of every person.

The fight for reproductive rights is intricately linked to religious freedom. As witches and pagans, we know the significance of honoring diverse spiritual paths and beliefs. By supporting reproductive rights, we safeguard the freedom to practice our spirituality without interference, recognizing that religious liberty encompasses the right to make decisions about our own bodies and reproductive destinies.
In a world where reproductive rights hang in the balance, witches and pagans possess a unique calling to rally for the protection of choice, autonomy, and bodily sovereignty. Our spiritual paths, grounded in reverence for the Earth and the interconnectedness of all things, compel us to fight for the rights of all individuals to make decisions about their own reproductive health. Let us unite our magical energies, lending our voices, actions, and spells to the collective pursuit of reproductive justice, knowing that our work is not only a moral imperative but an expression of our spiritual devotion to a world rooted in freedom, compassion, and empowerment.
Together, we can shape a future where the flame of choice burns bright, honoring the sanctity of every body and the infinite possibilities they hold.

What are your intentions? I know. I know. I seem like the father in a cheesy sitcom trying to intimidate my daughter's boyfriend. "What are your intentions? You better treat her right! I'm watching you. I know everything."
Well... the Gods and Goddesses are kind of like the dads in the sitcoms minus any weird intimidation flex. They are watching. They do know all the things and they always want to know your intention. They do pay attention but they are also very literal so when you set intentions and ask them for things be clear
When you ask for things, you need to be very clear about what you want. Don't ask for what you don't want. So many people say things like, "I don't want to be poor anymore," or "I'm so tired of living alone," and then they wonder why they remain unhappy, poor and/or lonely.
The more you focus on what you don't like about your current situation, the more you get the same garbage. The Gods and Goddesses or, as some people say, "The Universe," don't register words like, don't. So when you say, "I don't want to be poor anymore," what they hear is, "I want to be poor." Or if you say, I am tired of being lonely, what they hear is, "I want to remain lonely."
A few weeks ago, I started focusing on this idea because I realized that I had fallen into old patterns of negative thinking and, "poor me," thoughts. I cannot afford to attract negative energy to me by thinking poorly of myself and my current situation. Neither can you.
(Continued on the next page)
I have been struggling to keep my chin up in recent times due to some outside stressors. Read that as, someone I love very much died last year, and someone else that I love is slowly dying and there's not much I can do about it, so I allowed myself to sink deep into a depression. Oh, and I faced some very difficult financial issues and the usual issues that people face just living as a grown up.
There were days where just getting out of bed was hard. A few weeks ago, I decided to change my focus and pull myself out of the funk that I was in. I started by focusing on my business. My business has always been my side bit and I've been saying for a while that I want it to make enough money for it to be my main source of income. I figured that now is my chance.
I decided that I wanted to make $400 more per week from the business than I was currently making. With that $400 more per week I could afford an office space that I have had my eye on. It's beautiful. It's on the first floor of an old mansion with fabulous lighting, high ceilings, and crown molding that's to die for. To top it off the name of the mansion is "Wholeness House." How perfect is that for my oracle card reading, healing meditation and crocheting with crystals business?
(continued on next page)
The Gods and Goddesses have been listening. This week I didn't quite make it to $400 additional dollars from the business itself. But we did have some unexpected readings pop up this weekend, and unexpected money from another outside source. The addtional money ended up being about $300. Granted, it all went to bills and my phone took a dive into some water so a dear friend commissioned me to crochet a bunch of cardinals so that I could immediately get a new phone. (I feel like you need more details for this to make sense, so here we go down tangent lane.)
One thing that happens when you set your intentions, do your manifestation spells and do the work to get what you want is that you are tested. Your faith is tested. Usually something is taken away before you start getting what you asked for and this is where people lose faith and say things like, "it didn't work for me. This manifestation stuff is crap." I nearly fell hook, line and sinker, into that trap when my phone took a dive into the toilet. (Thankfullly the water was clean.) I was waiting on news about a loved one who's in the hospital and has cancer when my phone hit the water. I panicked.
I panicked. Then I went on social media, DM'd my friends, made posts about what happened and turned my thinking around. In talking to the people closest to me, I was quickly reminded that I have support of the best kind My mother-in-law lent me her phone for the night, and my sister from another mister ordered a new phone for me then asked me to crochet a bunch of cardinals for her. My spouse fielded family phone calls and made sure that I had all I needed to continue to work.
(continued on the next page)
I bet you're wondering how this story pertains to my initial premise about intention setting. It has EVERYTHING to do with intention setting. Had I not been clear about my intentions I would still be in the same funk I was in a few weeks ago.
Had I not been clear about what I wanted I never would have set up some unexpected readings this past week and a few more for this week. My mind would not be filled with new business ideas and I would not be manifesting the things that I want. This week, I'm already 1/4 of the way to my goal, and it's only Sunday.
I like to state exactly what it is that I want because I find that it helps to have that clarity and doesn't leave room for "creative interpretation " Others prefer to be less exacting about their intention setting. But all manifesting greats agree that staying positive about what you want is key to getting what you want. And for the love of all things, do not expect it to just land in your lap. Expect for the opportunities to show up in the form of work. Hell, they might even be wearing coveralls and boots.

Seeking Pagan Voices in the Bible Belt: Share Your Story"The pen is mightier than the sword" is a timeless phrase that captures the power and impact of the written word. It symbolizes the idea that ideas, discourse, and the dissemination of knowledge hold greater influence and lasting significance than the use of force or violence. This article delves into the origins and significance of this thought-provoking phrase that has come to represent the power of intellectual and persuasive abilities over physical might.
The phrase "The pen is mightier than the sword" is attributed to Edward BulwerLytton, an English novelist, playwright, and politician, who coined it in his 1839 play, "Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy." In Act II, Scene II, the cardinal Richelieu declares, "Beneath the rule of men entirely great, the pen is mightier than the sword." BulwerLytton, through this play, aimed to depict the political power struggles of 17thcentury France, emphasizing the influence of words and intellect over brute force.
Let's explore the significance and interpretation of the phrase.
(continued on next page)
1. Intellectual Power: The phrase highlights the inherent strength of the written word and its potential to bring about profound change. While the sword represents physical violence and force, the pen represents the power of ideas, eloquence, and intellectual discourse. It emphasizes that well-articulated thoughts and persuasive arguments can shape public opinion, challenge oppressive regimes, and inspire revolutions.
2. Diplomacy and Negotiation: Diplomacy and negotiations often prove more effective in resolving conflicts than resorting to violence. By employing diplomatic skills and intellectual dialogue, individuals can address disputes, find common ground, and foster understanding. The pen, as a metaphor for diplomacy and negotiation, promotes peaceful resolutions that can bring about lasting change.
3. Impact on Society: The written word has played a pivotal role throughout history in shaping societies, disseminating knowledge, and challenging established norms. Books, essays, articles, and speeches have sparked revolutions, inspired social movements, and influenced public opinion. From the Declaration of Independence to influential literary works, the pen has provoked thoughts, exposed injustices, and sparked societal transformations.

4. Freedom of Speech and Expression: "The pen is mightier than the sword" underscores the fundamental importance of freedom of speech and expression. It recognizes that the ability to express oneself, criticize authority, and challenge prevailing ideas are vital components of a democratic society. By allowing the free flow of ideas, societies can progress, fostering intellectual growth and innovation.
5. Responsibility and Ethical Writing: The phrase also carries a reminder of the responsibility that comes with wielding the power of words. Writers, journalists, and influencers hold immense influence over public opinion. It underscores the need for ethical writing, accurate reporting, and the responsible use of language to ensure that the power of the pen is harnessed for positive change.
"The pen is mightier than the sword" encapsulates the enduring notion that intellectual prowess and the power of ideas have the potential to create a lasting impact on individuals and societies. I suppose I like to think that this magazine serves as a testament to this principle.
I know it's my hope that this is so.

If we go back, back, back to ancient times, it's believed that herbs have evolved from green algae and early land plants If that is the truth, then you can imagine what they had to go through to transition from aquatic to earthly (land) environments. That required drastic adaptations to survive in dry conditions.
Still, they made it.
And that is why we need to give them respect and use them thoughtfully.
They nurture us, they provide clean air for us, they feed us, and most of all they heal us
Let's take a look at how different civilizations used and healed with herbs...
Indigenous civilizations have developed their own systems of healing with herbs. They've created a tradition of herbal medicine. Plants like echinacea, sage, and yarrow were the most valuable for their medicinal properties
Ayurveda, one of the world's oldest holistic healing systems that relies on herbs and plant-based remedies to restore natural balance in people and encourage well-being Their texts, such as the Charaka Samhita, provide detailed descriptions of herbs and their therapeutic uses. For example, turmeric, ashwagandha, and holy basil are some herbs that are commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine.
Ancient Greeks made significant contributions to herbal medicine through the works of renowned physicians like Hippocrates and Dioscorides. Hippocrates was the "Father of Medicine," because he emphasized the use of herbs in his treatments Dioscorides compiled an exhaustive herbal encyclopedia called "De Materia Medica," which described hundreds of medicinal plants and their properties.

Ancient Egyptians were celebrated for their advanced knowledge of herbal medicine One of the oldest known medical texts, the Ebers Papyrus, holds their secrets. Aloe Vera was one of the most common herbs they used for treating various ailments, including wounds, digestive issues, even respiratory problems
It's also good to mention Traditional Chinese Medicine, which focuses on the balance and flow of Qi (life energy) within the body. But their practice is based on combining a vast array of herbs into formulas tailored to the individual's specific health needs You've probably heard about ginseng, ginger, or astragalus, which are the most common in Chinese practice.
The list goes on, but let's be reminded of the one important thing; Back then, they all relied on their observations, practice and failures. Over time, they accumulated knowledge passed down through generations to identify and utilize the magic of healing with herbs And whether we agree on their practices or not, their experiences formed the foundation for many of the herbal remedies we still use today
Try understanding the specific needs of the herbs you have. By providing them with the right conditions, you create a nurturing environment for these living creatures. And they will reward you! Just imagine how much you will be enjoying the beauty and benefits of your herbs in everyday life
Take care of them, and take care of yourself Wishing you Calm & Magic
Lily discovered her desire for writing at an early age. She asked her granny to buy her a notebook and waiting for no teacher, she start waving words on paper, with passion and in awe.
In her 20's she gathered some pieces of her work and publish them, becoming an author of the 'Ruthless Silence' poetry book.
She then continues to feed her soul through various art forms. Today, as a founder of the Black Rabbit Tea brand, she runs a successful soul-led business and mentors others on their way to building this dream for themselves.
Oftentimes, I will use the term “muggle”, or non-magical people, from the beloved Harry Potter series in order to describe much of the world around me. I first began using the term to separate my spiritual friends from my non-spiritual friends. Having a balance of both sides seems to keep me healthy and grounded. Otherwise, I seem to fall too much into the “woo woo” rabbit hole. I also find myself doing this in my professional life, as I have a bounty of spiritual/pagan folks from all different practices, and a good number of agnostics.
Even though I know this balance is important for me, I often wonder, what would a completely magical world look like? Sound like? Feel like? Have you ever taken the time to really consider this?
There would generally be less stress. Magical folks have more “tools in their toolbox”. If they feel depressed or anxious, they would go into the forest to ground, or do a honey jar spell. Or they call upon their chosen deities for help. Work places would encourage this behavior with their employees after a challenging situation.
The environment would thrive. I don’t know of any magical people that don’t take global warming seriously. Not only would it correct itself, it would thrive! Trees would be honored, not cut down in mass quantities. Wild plants would be utilized, not sprayed with “Roundup”
People could be who they want to be, without fear. No longer would people be in the “broom closet”, or any closet. Everyone could honor their spirituality without fear of retribution or hate crimes.
(continued)
4. People would dress how they want to, at any event. No more strict rules or dress codes. Anyone could wear whatever, and not be judged for it
5. Schools would promote magical concepts. Our children would have better coping skills, more self esteem, and be open minded to more possibilities that the universe has to offer. Bullying would decrease, and differences would be celebrated.
6. No more fighting in the name of religion! Places like Afghanistan and Northern Ireland may look and feel quite different.
7 Working with the dead would be commonplace, without fear. People would no longer fear that they are going to burn in hell. Contacting their loved ones would be normal and natural, and everyone would know how to do it. Cemeteries would once again be places to gather.
(continued on the next page)
8. Extreme religious beliefs (eg fundamentalist Christians) would not be a thing. Consider a world where guilt and shame would be exponentially decreased, if not eliminated from our culture.
9. Western medicine would be relied on much less. Alternative, more traditional ways of healing would be more mainstream. Hospitals, clinics and doctor’s offices would have many more alternative medicine treatments available. Healers would work side by side with physicians.
10. People would be kinder to each other. Magical people are some of the most grounded, intuitive, and empathic people I know. Wisdom and knowledge would generally be valued more than money Compassion, and making heart based decisions, would be commonplace.
Is this what they meant when the musical “Hair” sang about “The age of Aquarius”? Challenge yourself to envision a better world. What have you got to lose? Perhaps, if enough of us manifest it, it will happen!
Michelle began her spiritual journey when she was a child after a family trip at age 6 to Salem, MA. After being introduced to the world of the occult, Michelle became obsessed with witches and ghosts, using tarot and ouija to communicate with the spirit world, performing magic for friends and family, reading endless books about the witch trials and ghost encounters, watching endless hours of “Bewitched” and “Charmed”, and even writing her high school senior thesis on poltergeists. Halloween did not go by without Michelle dressing up as a witch, except for the year she was Casper the friendly ghost!
When Michelle entered college, got married, had a full-time job, had children, did foster care and had multiple pets (and somehow kept her sanity in check through it all), things came to a halt for over 30 years. During this time, Michelle continued to use her gifts of clairsentience and claircognizance without realizing it, as she was often labeled “too sensitive”, and was told “you seem to have someone looking out for you”. In 2014, Michelle gained her professional mental health counseling license, and in 2018, she was led by spirit to a holistic healing center in Durham CT called “The Red Barn in Durham”, where she left her full time social work job to have her own holistic private practice. This led Michelle to have a spiritual “breakdown” of her ego, also known as a spiritual awakening!
Michelle’s world was turned upside down, as she was raised Roman Catholic, as she was taught that they were the one “true” religion. Michelle began to question everything, obsessively research, and challenge herself to let go of the guilt, shame and limiting beliefs that attaches itself to anyone who follows this religious path. Michelle felt terrified and exhilarated all at the same time while she was pulling away from a belief system layered in fear, and at times, thought she might be going crazy…
Michelle then joined a spiritual support group, which helped her connect with others who were going through the same process, and also helped her connect to a community of like minded individuals. Relief was on its way, as Michelle learned that others were having the same experiences as her! Michelle’s first mentors were Stephanie Rosally-Kaplan, Reiki Master/teacher/psychic medium, and Jennifer Gaylord, psychic medium, the leaders of the support group. Stephanie and Jennifer helped Michelle connect with her gifts, her ancestry, and her healing abilities. Within a few months, Michelle became a Reiki Master, and was able to use this ability to help others heal on a physical and emotional level.
In 2019, Michelle then met Paul Rice, psychic ghost worker (NOT hunter-Michelle does not believe in hunting people, or animals for that matter!), who would be her next mentor. Paul was teaching a class on how to tap into your psychic abilities in order to help ghosts move onto the light. Paul believed that there were many reasons why souls didn’t move on, and it was up to us to guide them, facilitate healing, and move them on to their version of heaven. Michelle developed her gifts, and realized that she could add clairvoyance to her spiritual resume! Paul was also teaching Michelle how to psychically protect herself, which is absolutely necessary for this type of work (although Michelle believes that humans are MUCH more scary than ghosts!). In 2021, Paul gave the group a formal name entitled “SHONE-spirit healers of New England” in order to continue his legacy (on FB and IG). When Paul retires and moves out of the country in 2023, Michelle will co lead the group, as her passion for rescue mediumship has soared.
In 2020, the pandemic hit, and doing things online suddenly exploded. Many famous mediums who were inaccessible suddenly were available at the request of a Zoom link. During this time, Michelle connected with mediums all over the world, and started doing practice circles and gallery readings that challenged her abilities (and scared her to death!). Michelle’s next mentor would be Kay Reynolds, an Arthur Findley college trained medium who was previously an elementary school teacher, and can work with others in a gentle and encouraging way (which is what Michelle needed!). Kay taught Michelle to develop her gifts even further, and the gift of clairaudience began to develop. Michelle continues to challenge herself, and will be working with more talented mediums in order to gain professionalism, and to learn how to perform trance mediumship.
In 2021, Michelle decided that the witchcraft had been put on a shelf for much too long! Michelle then began her year and a day training with Stacy Salpietro-Babb, an animist village witch who showed Michelle how to forage, craft spells, create sigils, perform tarot readings, read astrology, create self care items, perform rituals, tap into familiars, honor deities, and more! Most importantly though, Stacy showed Michelle how to be proud of who she was, and how to stand in her own truth. Michelle had finally come full circle!
Today, Michelle spends most of her days running her fully remote holistic telehealth practice from her home, encouraging people to be their true authentic selves. Michelle also runs ghost field trips that are open to the public, attends her mediumship and year and a day training classes, performs tarot and mediumship readings in private and at events, and spends time with her family, friends and her cat Loki. Michelle has her own blog entitled “Ghost and Spiritual Musings” on Facebook, where she shares her extraordinary experiences within the ghost and mediumship world. Michelle has also written for various publishings, such as CWPN (CT wiccan and pagan network), and writes ritual and spellwork for her groups.

The concept of evil has always fascinated me. It's the line of scrimmage where nature ends and cruelty begins. It's almost ethereal. Intangible. Very much a spirit in and of itself. In theory and practice, it's hard to define. If I were Hindu, this wonderful t-bone steak I call dinner, would be an act of evil. Our very nation is full of folks that believe Abortion is literally a baby killing mechanism, pure f*cking evil. Factory farming, strip mining, strip malls, genocide, human trafficking, child pornographers, politicians….
Is this purveying madness a symptom of humanity or is it the very thing that defines us? The Oxford dictionary defines Evil as ‘a profound immorality or wickedness”. Leave it to Oxford to boil one of the most profound enigmas in existence down to 5 words. I have no such definitions. Evil is something that seems so blatantly obvious yet escapes my grasp when I try to nail it down.’wicked by what standards? Whose standards? Immoral based on whose morality? Under whose authority?’ many a question to which the answers allude. I may not be able to find or even invent a crisp and highly homogenized definition. But to quote Potter Stewart; “ I know it when I see it”.
If evil was invented, it was invented by man Whether or not man knew what he was attempting to wrangle is anybody’s guess. The sinister and dastardly permeates every story, every religion, every government. But nobody owns it. Nobody ever says in earnest ‘I am evil. We are the evil ones’. Whether it's Cortez sailing across the Atlantic, Viking raids upon Monasteries, the efficient slaughter by the Nazis in concentration camps or those who smashed planes into the twin towers, everyone is the ‘BIG HERO’ of their sh*t.
I hold no such illusions. I divorced myself from mankind's little moral field day some time ago. I have no qualms about doing evil when I find it necessary. When I find it appropriate. It's quite a liberating thing to write one's own ‘moral code’ For most who may read this, I am evil I have destroyed enemies of mine without a moment's care, squished them under my boot with baneful magick and I feel nothing but joy in my heart
F them. You stand against me, and I will bury you. Other than that, I fight for the right to be left alone. I bother no one and I go through this plain of existence as I see fit. Only when engaged do I pull out the nuclear option. But even I have my self-tailored principles. For one, I wouldn't harm a child unless physically attacked and in fear of my life That doesn't mean that I even particularly like kids, I just pity them. They never asked to be dragged into the cesspool of life. And neither did I for that matter. Common ground. I wouldn't harm an animal unless attacked or for food. I wouldn't harm the elderly, lest I be attacked or for food. (Is it just me, or do old people seem tender like wagyu beef?.... Go ahead and judge. I don’t give a sh*t.)
I don't mind being the bad guy. It's a role I was almost groomed for. Without going into too much detail, my origin story kind of mirrors many famous villains. Chaos is something that I have been drawn to since birth and the darker the downward spiral, the more I embraced the chaos. I am the falcon who can no longer hear the falconer and I am soaring with a grand smile on my face.

This will not be the last time I tackle this topic It would be an act of immense hubris to assume I could quell such an infinite well of inspiration in a single article. I may be a cocky old bastard, but I have my limitations as well Evil is but one of many tethering lines among the human condition Maybe it's hardwired into our DNA as some survival mechanism. Maybe it's the poison chalice from which man drinks and becomes intoxicated. Maybe it's a dream we have not the will or ability to awaken from. One thing I do know is that evil is necessary. For contrast and for blueprint, it is ingrained into our very souls and to not acknowledge our shadow is a poison so venomous and foolhardy, we wouldn't notice that the road to the promised land was paved in human corpses
Food for thought… like wagyu beef.

We have been asking readers what kinds of things th Magick, plant medicine, and energy healing. Last month Grimoires, how to work with deities, and how it's possib month I received a question about familiars. So let's ge change their names to ask anonymously and sometime judge. I just use the name they give me.

Von Meowwrites:
Dear Faerie Godsmother,I have heard about familiars but I don't really understand what they are. I have an ancient crotchety old cat who I think might be my familiar. Or at least my wife says she is. This cat would do anything for me. What do you think? Can pets be familiars?
Sincerely,
Otto Von MeowAccording to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary a familiar is, "a spirit or demon that serves or prompts an individual." They kind of get it. Sort of. The British English definition in the Collins dictionary is closer to how I view familiars. They define it as, "a supernatural spirit often assuming animal form, supposed to attend and aid a witch, wizard, etc " This is far closer to the definition that I use.
To me a familiar is a spirit that chooses to assist you. It's a symbiotic relationship between souls You give them love, adoration, or attention and they give you protection, healing, and maybe even love. They often show up in our lives in the form of animals right when you need them. They ward off harmful spirits, protect you from baneful magick, they heal you energetically and make for great confidants.

As I sit here looking at my sweet grouchy, ol' gal, Mama Cass, my cat, I'm thinking of her as my famil While I feel like she would gladly take on that job, I would not wish it upon her. I would not want her to have the job of protecting me, and healing me beca that is a treacherous job. She has protected me and healed me in her own way, but that was out of love, out of obligation, as it is with a familiar. You and you familiar may love each other but the relationship is on obligation, at least initially.
While both the relationship with a familiar and a pet are very important, they can be very different. First and foremost, a familiar often is not a physical being, whereas a pet always is. A familiar may not even stay close by, whereas a pet lives with you. There is always a spiritual connection with a familiar, but that's not always true of a pet.
This is not to say that familiars cannot be pets, but just because you and your pet love each other, does not make them your familiar.

Mama Cass, "protecting me," from my crochet hook and yarn Mama Cass, "protecting me," as I nappedDear Reader --
Finding your family is so important. As I prepare for a nerve wracking reunion with certain members of my biological family, I'm thinking of the family that I'm creating Certain members of my biological family will never understand me, or my beliefs. They don't want to.
They don't want to see me for who I am. They want to continue to see me as the broken person that I was. And, that's ok. I've come to the conclusion that there are some people that don't need to be a part of my life in any real way. And that is also, ok.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, I've got to see some of the biological family members that I no longer choose to have as a part of my life. It will be the first time I've seen them since I cut them out years ago. So, I'm a bit nervous. But, I have my other family, the family I chose.
I'm very happy to have the family that I chose. They bring me comfort. They understand me and they love me for who I am I love them for who they are I hope for all of my fellow Pagans that they have a family, whether chosen or biological, that they can relate with and who accept them. And, Pagans, you'll always have me, even if you don't have a group of loved ones who support you.
P.S. If you are enjoying this magazine, would you consider buying me a coffee? It's just $3, but it would help a lot and be very much appreciated. https://ko-fi.com/ladyshay
