A PURSUITE OF THE HEART

Pursuite is an online based Caribbean travel company, serving all aspects of Caribbean Travel & Hospitality. We intend on marketing the Caribbean as one destination. This idea was conceived back in 2008 on my first visit to New York, unfortunately it was in the worst imaginable season; winter. After 2 months I began missing Jamaica, my home. This lead me to an online search of anything that closely resembled my home, somewhere warm, with beaches, trees, birds, fresh fruits etc.. This search to find high quality pictures & videos proved to be more difficult than I thought, the best pictures were on local hotel websites, which ofcourse were only pictures of those hotels and rarely had any videos or means to interact with others. This lead me to Facebook.com, YouTube.com and Flickr.com. Facebook ofcourse to locate similar groups and communicate with anyone familiar with Jamaica or the Caribbean, which I found. YouTube.com to view any professional video I could find featuring anything Caribbean. Flickr.com to view the best in high quality photographs of the Caribbean taken by people from all over the world. Tripadvisor.com, which is a global travel company based on travel forums, (travelers sharing their experiences with each other), had these two features / services merged, but that was a global site, still wasn't what I was looking for. I simply wanted to view a website with these two main features (pictures/videos & communication), ergo the 'light bulb' moment; what would happen if these two features were merged, designed solely to feature content from the Caribbean and offering visitors the chance to communicate & share their experiences.

TRAVEL DIARY
By Yana Boyko
Bahamas! Freeport to be exact.
ENVIRONMENT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE
ONLINE RESEARCH DOES PAY OFF
Everyone loves a relaxing beach vacation to get away from it all! Whether you live in a big metropolitan city or a small suburb, changing the environment for a week or even a couple of days can make all the difference.
I was very excited to go on this trip. Being my first time I was not sure what the island had to offer and didn’t have time to do my research online.
There are so many places in the world to choose from so where do you go? One of my first island vacations was to Freeport located on the Grand Bahama Island of The Bahamas, officially The Commonwealth of the Bahamas. These islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Cuba and southeast of the US and are only a forty minute flight away from Miami, FL.
Pack Right - Being a women, it means you pack way to many outfit options per day! I always pack the night before which means everything I see is pretty much going into that suitcase. Five swimsuits, accessories, beauty supplies, hair flattening iron, five sandals, two pumps, five shorts, four day dresses, five night dresses and ridiculous amounts of t-shirts. Later you realize that you may be a little over the weight limit.
By this point I'd much rather settle to pay the fee at the airport than spend another hour re-assessing the situation. Ohhh wait! Sneakers because you are so going to start your days by running on the beach! FLYING FROM ATLANTA TO BARBADOS
I was flying out of Atlanta and there were no direct flights into the Freeport International Airport (FPO) so I had a connection in Miami. My I-pod was full of relaxing beachy tunes by LMFAO, love songs by Alicia Keys and Beyonce and of course a little rap by Jay-Z and Lil Wayne to set the mood to go out! The flight to Miami was very nice, about an hour long. Then from Miami to Freeport was not bad once I got used to the fact that the airplane is super small, I can hear the engine, am sitting next to the restroom and can probably reach the pilot cabin. Once I got to the security at the airport a very nice gentleman with a very strong island accent welcomed me to The Bahamas and I forgot all about the plane. Note that it is an English speaking country as it was a British colony but it might take you a few days to understand the locals.

American Residents and Citizens do not need a visa to enter the country but make sure you have your Green Card and/or Passport. Also, not every flight into the island is small charter plane. Some airlines use larger planes depending on your city of departure. Eat The area has so much to offer for a relaxing vacation. There are plenty of restaurants offering Greek, Italian, Mexican and Caribbean Cuisines. My personal favorite is Lucciano's. It is a little more upscale then the others but it has one of the best views and definately the best lobster I've had in my life. If you are looking to have one nice dinner during your stay, save it for the last night and don't go anywhere else!

Jade Mountain
St. Lucia
There is literally nothing blocking your view of St. Lucia's famous Piton Mountains and the Caribbean Sea at this resort.
“ The use of earth, air and water to give intense pleasure. The air has been cleansed by crossing countless miles of Atlantic Ocean.
T
he fourth wall is entirely absent from Jade Mountain's suites, which the hotel calls "sanctuaries," so guests get unobstructed panoramas of the beautiful surroundings.
Each sanctuary also comes with its own infinity pool for the ultimate in privacy and relaxation. "It's total luxury, and it's a great romantic spot. You can be as alone as you want there," McCabe said. But be prepared to completely unplug during your stay. Jade Mountain is "deliberately techno-free," the resort says. There are no telephones, radios or televisions in the rooms, and guests are asked to not to use their cell phones in public. Internet access is available at reception "for those who simply cannot let go of the outside world." Rates start at US $950 a night.

GOOD TO KNOW Alternative Medicines. In our books, we say it should be the other way around. natural remedies were present on the earth before pharmaceutical drugs.
PAPAYA TREE LEAVES
CURE CANCER
Uncertainty lies in the use of alternative medicines but just doing a search on the internet brings up a plathora of websites with die hearted enthusiast excited about cures for deadly illnesses using alternative methods. Papaya leaf juice is claimed to have reversed cancer in many people. The story of how Stan Sheldon cured himself of cancer by drinking the boiled extract of pawpaw leaves was first told in the Gold Coast Bulletin in 1978. Now research in the United States has given scientific support to his claim, isolating a chemical compound in the pawpaw tree which is reported to be a million times stronger than the strongest anti-cancer drug. Hmmm.. Makes you wonder huh?
LEMONS
FOR ROYALTY Did you know royalty in London give their children lemon and honey for soar throat? That’s surprising, but not so much because it works! It is astounding how many things lemons are good for! The list goes on and on so I’ll just give you a couple that you can use right away. Or at least until the space for this article runs out... Cough & Cold: Roasted lemons until they crack open are good for cough and cold sufferers with marked success! Hangover or Headache: Strong unsweetened, lemonade with fresh lemon: 1-2 glasses per hour until relived. Drug remedies are no match! Trying to QUIT Smoking: lemon juice takes the craving away for a smoke. Suck a lemon or squirt some juice into the mouth. Asthma: Dr. Joseph H. Greer has no fear of asthma remaining with his patients. In addition to a general detoxifying diet, he gives then two tablespoons of l Lemon juice before each meal, and before retiring.
Several Villages in Africa use papaya seeds to reduce parasite infections and as a preventative measure.

Carnival in T&T is so special to all ah we Like we need blood in we vein
”
Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago By Karesa
LIVING IT DOWN { Living it up? Nah. We show you how the locals do it. Read on and see what you missed (Or would have) if you went as a tourist.
"Carnival in T&T is so special to all ah we Like we need blood in we vein That’s how we feel about Port-of-Spain When the posse dem come in town Beatin pan d a bongo drum Is madness everywhere Carnival is your true freedom Make a noise and a joyful sound and jump up in the air..."("its Carnival- Destra Garcia and Machel Montano) The lyrics of this song capture the essence of Trinidad carnival's climatic street parade. Carnival in Trinidad is perhaps the most significant event on the island's cultural and tourism calendar with numerous events leading up to the street parade on carnival Monday and Tuesday. Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent. It typically entails a public celebration or parade, combining some elements of a circus, masque and public street party. It is natural to see people dressed up or masquerading during the celebrations. Unlike the Rio De Janeiro Carnival and New Orleans Mardi Gras, Trinidad style Carnival is the model for Caribbean carnivals including Jamaica and Barbados. Furthermore, Trinidad Carnival has been introduced to major cities around the world including Miami, New York, Boston, Toronto and London to name a few, and it has even been introduced to the African nation of Uganda. **
