Thesis. Post Disaster MetroForming. 0.1,Abstract 0.2,Kathmandu Form on Fabric/Porosity and Permeability

THESIS 0.1, Abstract: Post Disaster Metroforming Kathmandu city Nepal Post disaster development programe is related with government and other relevant organisation to relocate effected people to providing new facilities. Over the past decades Nepal appears to have suffered disproportionately severe structural damages and human losses given by the natural disaster. In 25th April Nepal has been hit by 7.8 magnitude of the earthquakes. the works starts from Degree of problem definition( research attempt to make an explanation on why), Requirement analysis, understanding, formulation of initial brief and summary of data. The research highlights the importance of Destruction can be the potential for reconstruction with a new pattern, focusing over lack of management and urban planning issues in metropolitan scale. And the post disaster development as a process of reshaping a city in order to create better places that can finally respond to the needs of the people, environment of the society and will develop sustainability guidelines for Kathmandu, which will act as reference to the policy makers, planners and urban development professionals working for the development and management of the city.

0.2,Kathmandu Form on Fabric/Porosity and Permeability Kathmandu metropolitan city is facing rapid-

ly expansion of the urban environment, coupled with unmanaged settlements and unplanned development so metropolitan city has been unable to grow in a sustainable manner, absence of a clear and comprehensive planning and land use policy. The processes of urban growth in Kathmandu, encapsulating the past and present trends are highly complex and varied. Growth has taken place in a fabric continuum that needs to be qualified to reach an upper level of biological evolution. It has to grow from moss to a more evolved bio form. Urban fabric of kathmandu is tight and never before the metropolitan size was addressed in history. Therefore: The Nepal earthquake can be an occasion to rebuilt the destroyed areas providing an opportunity to introduce the new metropolitan form. Development policy: Extension of road width in the city: City to define metropolitan dimension to reticulate the transport system in 21st century to provide trip flexibility alternatives so we have to turn down some buildings, resettle people with fair deals, increase the width of some streets(main/local roads) and turn corners etc. Bus service – light public transport system :Kathmandu is enclosed in a valley and building reach the bottom of the hills, there are no rail tracks so the metropolitan has to be organised on light public transport system. Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Centralities: Density has to be increased on those centralities and the new centralities can offer the possibility for other intermediate centralities of the Kathmandu metropolitan city with providing social facilities, according to the existing urban centralities without conflicting heritage areas and buildings. Historic city core - Regeneration, Speed and administrative management is essential, Creating more Green and open space - environmental system: Refusing the traditional way of infrastructure and providing the green and grey infrastructure networks.

Internship: Digital Modelling (at University“politecnico di milano department of achitecture and urban studies) Developing 3d physical and digital modelling of Achitecture and Urban contents.(porto venere)

Developing 3d physical and digital modelling of Achitecture and Urban contents.(porto venere) Porto Venere is a town and located

on Ligurian coast of Italy, this area provides an important connection between the sea , the city and the urban landscape. an identify Porto Venere with the image of the urban curtain of the high building of the seafront, when for safety reasons there were not footpaths in between the building and the sea. Representing the town of Porto Venere in a 3D model is challenging and also the opportunity to understand difficult task of the landscape, is located in a challenging topography where built environment and life are directly related with the geographical condition and strong slopes with in the city. The vertical connection between higher and lower grounds with soft horizontal transitions. Traditional printed maps and collections of visual references, we started to digital modelling with help of professor Dr. Luigi Cocchiarella.

The Porto Venere modelling starts with the process of outlining the base of the buildings, paths, walls, stairs, and outline of the rock with the help of traditional printed topographic map by using Auto Cad and Rhinoceros. using the Rhinoceros, the steps followed to creating a terrain by using curve: interpolate points to trace the contour lines from the map. in several ways and command to follow and examine a piece of the Porto Venere to understand different tools of software and problems finding in different command by using the Rhinoceros. The town of porta venere is made by the stairs, you can see in the map. The stair case of the porto venere is very complicated reason of vertically incline landscape, here also we have to be smart calculation to get height of the stairs and how it is working because they are not similar to each other some are sloping.

Urban Planning Studio The growth of the city:planning with street grids and blocks How the city growth followed the plan’s drawing/the plan has been built.

Beruto’s plan-Milan

The city realised its growth through streets grids and blocks as seen earlier in Beruto’s plan and blocks. From the plan, it is clear to analyze how the shape of the buildings are connected to the urban grid and also how they increase the land value. The planning with street grids and blocks is creating horizontal common square defined/closed by vertical height. It can be derived that master plan which has been an observed protocol is simply a technical drawing suggesting how an urban fabric can be achieved example on a scale note. It also fixes rules for settlement for instance, height, shape, square and public spaces

Due to the need to make inclusive urban form, use of urban tools have been deployed like in the case of Milan much of urban analysis, planning framework considered in the city plan, Geometrical elements that is Barcelona, roads- long territorial connections, street- which are urban short distance connection, blocks with urban grids and land marks that works vertically for a plan.

Dubai-Urban Crisis

Money Worthless as Sand International newspapers write on Dubai crisis. Dubai’s foreign debt was estimat- ed at approximately $80 billion although this is just a fraction of the sovereigns debt worldwide. Until the 2008 global economic downturn had its toll on Dubai, the country had achieved a 17% annual growth rate from 2000 to 2006. A dubai investor reacts to the Global Market in 2008. In 2008, the property market experienced a major downturn as a result of the slow eco- nomic climate. On early 2009, the situation got worse with the global economic crisis taking a heavy toll on property val- ues, construction and employ- ment.

The world islands-There are 300 Man Made Islands created to represents the world map. The project was announced in september 2003, following two years of extensive planning, research development and design. Located just 4Km off the coast and will measure approximately 7 kms in length and 9 kms in width. A total of $14 billion was spent just on the initial phase of the project which involved dredgging the sea bed to create the islands. The price of owning an is- land has been estimated between $15 million to $50 million as stated by the developer.

New urban Scape: Activ-action strategies for Milano 2014 Due to the flexiblity nature of this model, we created these examples to showcase how the functions in the square can change depending on individual or group activities who uses these models according to their needs. eg the purposes of the square are immense and achieve this by placing the model in specific areas within the square to dertemine the reaction of people towards them thus finding the concept of public space. This paradigm has been design to examine the democratic possibilities of what makes urban space liveable. In the case of piazza leonardo da vinci, we are internalising the perspective of literally making the square asactive as possible. i.e explaining in an approachable way the question of making the square a better place to be

To show how the model change and reconnect depending on activities.

Strategic planning-London Olympic Games 2012 For a short time in order to promote the economic development of an area or the realization of a major event (Olympics, festival, etc) many municipalities implement projects of strategic planning. These projects identify the long-term interventions to achieve, even with public and private entities. Many Italian and European cities are active in these plans.

Main Implemented Projects When a city makes a bid to host the Olympic Games, the must provide a plan that will prove they can and will or ganise all aspects of the games; an important goal the must achieve is too provide suitable accommodation to a the athletes who will be participating in the games. The Queen Elisabeth Olympic park The Athletes Village The Olympic Stadium

Sustainability Policy Sustainability was an important element of (London’s) bid and underpins (their) preparations and (their) vision for legacy of London 2012. -Olympic Site 2.5km2 in size -220 buildings demolished 98.5% of materials reused and recycled. Energy Saving Recycle and Reuse

Criticisms The london olympic games called the flat olympics. Many people talk about the sustainability as well as legacy It has problems with the real regeneration of that areas. At the time of developing they had a problems with traffic People are claiming of the olympic budget. Loss the natural beauty of East London. Some people have been forced to move. Thematic Studio Projects for public space and urban landscape Open multipurpose space, Place making Concept as a means to provide suitable elements for the politecnico di Milano students that promotes people’s health, happiness and well-being Making a great public space And Creating a Sense of belonging. Place making in fostering civic connections and building social capital.

The strategic plan to show our concept of connecting the new facilities and the green areas. That’s the movement from one point to the other. In the study side, design a 3D print room and also constructed two internet points thus connecting the green space and seating benches with the new features. and design the study room with an outdoor green seating benches and a greenery connection with swimming pool, making the space more usable and attractive to the students.
