DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS
CHALLENGES FACED
SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION
At ZP School of Kushivali, in Ambernath, When asked about their dreams and Aspirations, while most of them were speechless, few enthusiastic ones have admired people whom they see in their lives everyday. No engineers, lawyers or Astronauts, but Policemen, Nurses, School teachers. Their worlds are small and need exploration. While it is still a challenge for students to travel long distances for school, it is important to have more qualitative schools than a large number to show to the world. These schools in Ghavliwadi are an excellent example of that. The Zilla Parishad School in Ratnagiri’s tiny hamlet, Panval Ghavliwadi, is an excellent example of a sustainable school. Run and funded by students up to 40 %. The school prepares these students from a young age to deal with real-life problems. Right from growing their own food to providing services and generating funds, the children are a active part of the school that we see today. We see how student from a secluded village has to be dependent on the City for his education, but this school is an example of how a n ideal school got set up in a place where resources are scare. Thus architecture as an intervention plays a very delicate role in shaping a child’s future. Children are not only taught books but their classrooms extend out of those for walls, not just for playing but for dealing with challenges. Whether it is a child from a city’s hustling slum or a from a isolated tribal community, education is of utmost importance and equally importance to both of them. And getting the right kind is very important in the 21st century.

SOCIAL CREATION
In a school which has both vernacular and English medium study patterns there is always a sociological divide amongst the students. In order to bridge the gap and to inculcate team building notion in a child the vernacular and English mediums classes can come together for one creative subject of arts and craft. This will also help on saving resources.

BLOCK PLACEMENT
Courtyards act as an Important buffer but it also provides an induced change in activities throughout the movement in the school. The courtyards will help them engage in lot of small set of games that have been replaced by mobiles phones in the current generation. Thus th slums being a extremely compact landscape it was important to give them the freedom of experiencing premises which are contrasting to their regular lives in the slum.
SELF DISCOVERY MATRIX FORMATION
As children we are we are always curious of scratching our pens and pencils on the walls. The uncontrollable urge to draw on the walls as a child in common in everyone. In order to boost the exploration process of a mind the walls could be fold-able panels where the infill is a canvas or a drawing board or simply a blackboard.
MINDFUL THINKING
SERVICE BLOCKS
For a Child who grows up in a slum always compromises in terms of academic in some or the other manner. In an urban scape where students are bound to coaching classes and other attractions for their academic . The self study corner will allow them to dedicate a certain amount of time during the day to focus on academics. The study corner will give them a space devoid of audible visual disturbances. It will create a peaceful and quiet environment for them to study in.

The drinking water area is an crucial utility area for every child coming to the school in search of sanitised water. Hydration being an important part of growing up had to be combined with eating and playing. It was important to locate it in a open arena to make sure the spilled out water is retained into the soil. The level difference creates a peculiar spillout sitting area for the students while they play games.
