SOME OF YOU MAY ALREADY BE AWARE THAT WE HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED OUR NAME TO “ACO WATER MANAGEMENT”. An overview of the changes and the new business structure can be found in the news section on page 4. An additional change within our business and one focused on improving our customer service is that we have restructured our Commercial Team. The Sales Office has been divided into two areas. The “Order Generation” team, led by Peter Chown, will focus on processing all enquiries and supporting the Contractor/Distributor supply chain. Our Sales Office Manager Alessandra Marabese will manage our “Order Fulfilment” team, administering all activities involved with order intake. Managing the external sales force, as well as supporting me in key customer reviews and negotiations, will be Martin Neale (Northern Region) and Chris Green (Southern Region). All of the above have been implemented to improve on overall service. Should you wish any further explanation please do contact me. Meanwhile, I wish you well in 2010 and that we, here at ACO, can continue to support your business. Steve Durdant-Hollamby Commercial Director ACO Water Management

NEWS

ACO WATER MANAGEMENT – THE NEW NAME FOR ACO’S EXTERNAL DRAINAGE In October 2009 ACO Technologies plc celebrated a quarter of a century as market leader in the drainage business. During the 25 years of ACO’s presence in the UK, there have been many changes both for us as a company and for our industry sector. In addition to ACO’s broadening product ranges, there have also been extensions to the ACO brand with names like ACO Build, ACO Building Drainage and ACO Wildlife and ACO Sport joining the original ACO Drain.

The combination of advances made in designing surface water management solutions and our own extensive range of associated products means that we feel it appropriate to change our trading name to ACO Water Management (AWM), with the sub-brand of “Drain” being replaced by “Civils + Infrastructure” and the sub-brand “Build” being replaced by “Urban + Landscape”. The name change will take place with immediate effect and the ACO brands will now follow this structure:

SECTOR FOCUS - ACO STORMWATER CONTROL

ACO STORMWATER CONTROL ACO HAS LAUNCHED A RANGE OF ACO STORMWATER CONTROL SYSTEMS DESIGNED TO DEAL WITH THE STORAGE AND CONTROL OF ACCUMULATED WATER.

ACO Q-CEPTOR

ACO Q-BRAKE VORTEX NEW ACO STORMTANK NEW FOR 2010 FOR 2010

ACO Q-Ceptors are a range of oil separators available in a variety of chamber sizes and flow rates ideal for use in car parks, maintenance areas, and industrial and residential applications. Manufactured from polyethylene, the innovative single chamber design of the ACO Q-Ceptor is extremely compact and robust offering significant advantages in installation and handling costs over traditional GRP products. ACO Q-Ceptors are available in two performance classes as specified by BS EN 858-1:2002.

Class 1 separators are designed to achieve discharge concentrations of less than 5mg/litre of oil under standard test conditions. These separators are required for discharges to surface water drains and the water environment. Class 2 separators are designed to achieve discharge concentrations of less than 100mg/litre of oil under standard test conditions. They are suitable for dealing with discharges where a lower quality requirement applies, for example where the sewer provider allows discharges to the foul system. Both Class 1 and Class 2 ACO Q-Ceptors are available as bypass or full retention separators.

ACO Q-Brake Vortex is a vertical flow control unit designed to regulate stormwater flow before it discharges into sewer networks or watercourses.

Manufactured from grade 304 stainless steel, each ACO Q-Brake Vortex is individually configured to suit specific performance criteria. The ACO Q-Brake Vortex unit is based on the fluid mechanics principle of the forced vortex which permits flow regulation without any moving parts. ACO Q-Brake Vortex is fitted with an integral bypass gate which, in the event of a blockage, can be opened so the unit can be drained of water. A stainless steel wire attached to the bypass door is run to cover level and provides control of the bypass gate. Once the water level within the manhole subsides the unit can be cleared.

ACO StormTank is the first modular storm water infiltration and attenuation system to fully overcome the problems created by silt build up and provision of tank access for inspection and maintenance – a major issue in securing system adoption and planning approval. Manufactured from recyclable plastic, the lightweight material makes ACO StormTank easy to handle and quick to install. Each cell has a 97% void ratio reducing the cost associated with excavation and aggregates compared with traditional gravel based solutions.

The ACO Design Services department can utilise Micro DrainageÂŽ software to assist with the design and analysis of any ACO Q-Brake Vortex installation.

NEW! SECTOR FOCUS - SUSTAINABILITY

ACO VIENITE® ACO now include its new high strength recycled material in all its polymer concrete products!

ACO MULTIDRAIN™ MD

ACO S RANGE

ACO have been working for more than two years on the development of a recycled raw material that delivers product performance that matches or exceeds the performance of traditional polymer concrete. This investment has resulted in the new high strength recycled material which meets all the most rigorous strength and durability tests necessary for the ACO product range. ACO Vienite® is almost identical in appearance to traditional polymer concrete. It uses high levels of recycled material in its composition while retaining, and in some areas exceeding, the performance characteristics of ACO’s traditional material. ACO Vienite® has another important aspect: it is recyclable and need never end up as costly landfill at the end of its useful life. ACO ROADDRAIN®

Manufactured from ACO Vienite®, ACO's high strength recycled material, this tough one-piece channel drainage system is ideal for heavy duty road and warehouse applications. The system is strong and robust in design and the absence of separate gratings eliminates the risk of loss or vandalism. ACO PROJECT FOCUS

BESPOKE DRAINAGE CHECKS-IN!

A series of unique, high performance channel drainage systems designed and manufactured by ACO Technic, the bespoke product development division of surface water management specialist ACO Technologies, were installed across Heathrow’s award winning Terminal Five. As well as helping to overcome some significant challenges posed by the site’s design, the systems have played a key role in creating some of the terminal’s striking public areas. “As ACO has a separate bespoke division, ACO Technic, we were able to work with a dedicated team

that quickly determined that our proposals were feasible. Not only were they able to develop a purpose-built kerb drainage system for the deck, we were also able realise bespoke designs for other drainage systems across the terminal complex” says Guy Collingwood, Consulting Engineer at TP Consulting. A total of 1752 metres of the kerb drainage system were installed within the set-down area and along the vehicle entry and exit ramps from ground level. Based on ACO’s Queen’s Award winning KerbDrain system, two unit sizes were developed for the critical passenger set-down/pick-up area on level six of the multi storey car park, directly opposite the main terminal building. Another bespoke system was developed for the ground floor plaza area between the terminal building and the multi-storey car park. “Here we needed a drainage concept that could help us meet the architect’s aesthetic requirements,” explains Guy Collingwood. “This is an extremely visually

sensitive area. The objective was to create a surface that could unobtrusively accommodate water features, lighting and drainage, allowing the granite slabs covering the plaza to cleanly intersect with the main car park and terminal structures.” Again, two bespoke systems were manufactured for the plaza area, based on the ACO Brickslot system. Also, a number of standard ACO products were used across the Terminal 5 complex. Two standard channels with locked cast iron gratings were installed around the bus pull-ins and ticket barriers within the multi storey car park. And drainage to the main staff car park is provided by 660 metres of ACO Qmax® 225 and 350 high capacity slot drainage systems; selected because of their attenuation performance and speed of installation.
