THE FAN ORIGAMI ARCHITECTURE COURSE: Computer-aided Design for Architects

PROJECT: Origami Architecture Presentation Board OBJECTIVES: Students shall be able to compose an architecture presentation board from scratch with the Origami paper model molded from their creativity. LOCATION: St Tonle Sap, Sangkat Chroy Changva, Khan Chroy Changva, Phnom Penh, Cambodia YEAR: 2019
2018 - 2022
9
THE DEVELOPMENT
1
The A4 paper is then folded into repetitive pattern in equal section. It creates a rough model that resemble those of a traditional fan hence the name of the project itself.
THE FAN
The entire origami paper model is crafted from a single A4 sized paper, recycled from previous printed document.
2
3
10
The A4 paper with equal repetitive folds is then folded again along one of the diagonals of the rectangular paper. That fold creates a natural curve to the model.
4 Since step 3 displays a natural curve to it, one corner of the paper is then cinched in and secured with adhesive. Thus, the final look of the Origami paper model took shape.

CONCEPT INITIALIZATION
From observing the livelihood of the area and demography results that the site area are packed with working people. Seeing the female teachers still being able to keep the tradition, wearing the traditional skirt blended with the Maxi silhouette, the impression is the initialization of the concept.
65
LOCATION & NATURAL FACTORS
1
2
After the block shape is subtracted and rounded off, the podium shape is to follow along the bubble diagram, and the tower part offers panoramic view all around.
THE MAXXI 110
It starts with a mainstream block shape tower with a rectangular volume podium. Then, sharp corners are subtracted as they are unfit for a high-rise morphology.
66
3
4
The top portion of both the tower and the podium is then pushed out in an organic manner to provide shading according to the natural factor analysis.
Lastly, the facade is created by subtracting strips of the form to create opening to the potential view of the street for both the tower and the podium.
The Facade
The Biophillia
There are two layers of facades, as inspired from the 2 layers of the skirt. The outer layer is more transparent, the inner layer strip is more opaque.
From the opening of the balcony to the landscaping on the ground level, and the terrace landscape on the top of the podium, it is able to connect the occupants to the nature fully.
