Report 2B) Passive/Green Insulation Product Development 1. The window from the critical wall identified in report 2A

Aim: -To reduce heat transfer using a mobile bulletin board with heat insulation.

2. Product design/idea

-A movable lightweight bulletin board for window panel.


3. Material characteristics and specifications: -Plywood board

-Dimensions: 215mm (W) x 292mm (H) x7mm (THK) -The thermal resistance/insulating effectiveness of plywood panel is R=8.67 -Good heat resistance

-Polyurethane foam board

-Dimensions: 190mm (W) x 292mm (H) x 6mm (THK) -The thermal resistance/insulating effectiveness of polyurethane foam is R=6.25 -Polyurethane foam is one of the best commercially available choices of insulation material with good thermal insulating properties, low moisture-vapour permeability, high resistance to water absorption, relatively high mechanical strength and low density.


-Microfiber cloth

-Dimensions: 380mm (L) x 190mm (H) -Microfiber is a synthetic fiber with combinations of polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene. The combination ensures not only high absorption factor, but also breathability of the material, which prevents greenhouse effect. Help

-Polyethylene foam tape

Reflection Based on the design value of the product creation and monetary value, the profit I would gain is fairly positive; based on the type of materials I had used. Although, I still think it could be improved for the cost of product materials such as the price of foam board and microfiber cloth; which are a slight loss, as I need two pieces for each material to complete and build one final product design.
