DESIGN DIRECTION

BARCLAY X THURLOW BÜRO OLE SCHEEREN

Designed by the distinguished international architecture firm Büro Ole Scheeren, Fifteen Fifteen combines forward-thinking modern design with precision engineering and craftsmanship. Strategically sited between downtown Vancouver and Stanley Park, Fifteen Fifteen will occupy a prestigious location in Coal Harbour, Vancouver’s most desirable waterfront neighbourhood, and command a distinctive presence on the Vancouver skyline. The 42-storey tower introduces horizontality to vertical living with dramatic glass-enclosed cantilevers, including a double-height residents’ lounge with a fireplace and private dining room, that extend towards the nearby harbour, mountains, and Stanley Park. Subtly elegant interiors emphasizing wood and other natural materials reinforce the connection between the residences and Vancouver’s pristine environment.

ARCHITECTURE

HOLY ROSARY CATHEDRAL

The key to the significance of this proposal is through the opportunity to more effectively connect, integrate, and render more coherent as a whole the two half-blocks that make up the precinct crossing Dunsmuir Street.

This comprehensive design proposal for two urban blocks in downtown Vancouver, includes a mix use development as well as redevelopment of the adjacent urban park and the restoration of the cathedral.

ARCHITECTURE

SANYA FOUR SEASONS RESORT

An ambitious design scheme for a resort hotel as well as surrounding villas in the southern Chinese island of Hainan.

The luxurious hotel wings shy away from each other allowing for generous uninterrupted ocean and mountain views from each and every guest room. A rooftop swimming pool salutes the fourth tallest statue in the world, the Guan Yi of the South Sea at a height of 135 metre.

For Chris Doray Studio 2017 – 2019

Nestled between the south china sea and the legendary red pond mountain, straddles this 5 star resort hotel and residences knitted seamlessly into the thick foliage of a tropical island forest.

ARCHITECTURE

NELSON IN THE PARK

An exploration in simplicity, nelson in the park takes on a reductionist approach to designing a skyscraper. Defying the trend in complex geometries, this residential tower opts for pure forms while maximizing comfort for it's residents. The site sits on the highest point of the downtown core which makes it a significant location for a vertical landmark project.

STARBUCKS FLAGSHIP WALL CENTRE

Taking on the cues from its Japanese counterpart in Dazaifu, the Vancouver store features a very organic surface treatment that mimics the mountainous terrain of the British Columbia landscape. Situated in an iconic location, this flagship store is nested on the highest point of the main artery into the downtown core of the city of Vancouver.

THE PIPE

SPECULATIVE DESIGN

A design proposal for the Land Art Generator Initiative 2016, “The Pipe” is a floating water desalination plant which creates pure drinking water from the salty ocean water. A collaboration with Ionics Research, the plant is completely self-sufficient, creating all of it’s required energy from its solar outer shell while providing a public amenity, extending the Santa Monica pier out into the Pacific ocean.

PUBLIC ART

TYPHA

This piece primarily engages the senses of sight and sound in the material world, aims to engage a more subconscious state of mind that reaches for remembrances and feelings of connectedness. Creating a dynamic art piece in the vibrant yet serene environment of the Richmond seawall, requires embracing the essence of this place: the sights and sounds that have existed it throughout time.

34

PUBLIC ART

THE BEGINNINGS

Envisioned as gatekeepers of a 10 acre wooded family estate, this public art installation initiates a dialogue about dualities. It is an attempt to juxtapose the natural and the man-made.

The Beginnings seeks to demonstrate the successful co-existence of the human construct and the natural, each sustaining its own strength, beauty and integrity. These steel trees bathed in light offer a new aesthetic and celebrate the ubiquitous technology that governs many aspects of our lives.
