(This is a continuation from the Part 1 of this article)
The main objective of the Megaminx puzzle cube is to start with the pieces in a random order, then to solve the puzzle by arranging the pieces so that the colors on each side match. Regardless of the type of Megaminx you get (6 color or 12 color), the cube has 30 edges and 20 corners, and the permutations of the pieces that are possible is even.
Needless to say, there are people who have mastered solving megaminx puzzles. The world record is held by a South Korean by the name of Yu Da-Hyun, who solved it in an impressive 37.58 seconds. Yu Da-Hyun also has the record for the average of five attempts, with a time of 42.89 seconds.
As mentioned before, megaminx puzzles resulted from the Rubik’s cube. Other related combination puzzles include: pyraminx, petaminx, teraminx, gigaminx, and others. Petaminx is one of the most popular related puzzles; it has 9 layers. Another related puzzle is the Yottaminx, which was made courtesy of 3-D printing. A Yottaminx has 15 layers. This makes it one of the toughest puzzle cubes in the world.
