Square Enix is certainly winning big with games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Hitman. Now it looks like there is another big win emerging in their recent efforts. I am referring to the puzzle series of theirs, GO. This series was well thought out by Square Enix for many reasons. The major reasons being: it is an excellent way to set up current franchises for spin-offs, and it is a great way to produce captivating puzzle games at the same time. Proof of these facts is more than evident in one of such titles, Lara Croft GO. This game has achieved massive success in the mobile gaming world. After such success, it should not be much of a surprise that Deus Ex will soon join that arena.
The news of the Deus Ex Go release was revealed in Montreal by Square Enix, amidst all the buzz around Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Gamers on smartphones and tablets will be glad to know that this puzzle game will be available on these platforms later in the year. This game converts the usual characteristics of Deus Ex, such as the RPG launching and Adam Jensen’s broody nature, into a puzzle game. As is the case for Square Enix’s other GO titles, Deus Ex, will stay true to the main theme of the main title. You will navigate the turn-based stages of the game as Jensen, and you get to utilize high-tech weapons and tools to do it. Other skills that will come in handy in this game include the likes of stealth and hacking.
Hitman was able to accomplish the transition to GO by evolving the Agent 47 missions in such a way that they fit the puzzle theme. Lara Croft accomplished the transition by pushing on with the idea of tomb exploration, without losing the qualities of the Lara Croft games so popular. It is for these reasons, that we have little to worry about regarding the future of Deus Ex in the puzzle game arena. However, you will have to be a little patient for its release. Mankind Divided has to come out first, and that is just as exciting.
