“Great session! Please continue to offer sessions that focus on grant opportunities for humanities scholars.”
2020 A YEAR OF TRANSFORMATION 2020 will be remembered as the year that dramatically transformed the way we live and work. It affected nearly every element of life. Despite the challenges of balancing work and home life, we quickly figured out how to work from home. We’ve come to realize that upskilling and rightskilling are essential for strategic innovation and research advantage. Post COVID-19, virtual learning will likely become a bigger part of ongoing professional development. Critical to the success of the Research & InnovationTraining Institute (RITI) was the support from Vice President Magesh Rajan to be creative and bold in our approach. We knew that learning in a virtual space would need to be relevant, engaging, focused, and clear. Compared with the one-time workshops and faceto- face sessions that had come to be the norm for professional development, virtual initiatives can take on a variety of forms. Virtual professional development has the concomitant advantages of convenience, accessibility, and adaptability. Every effort was made to be inclusive of topics thatwould be of interest and benefit to our multidisciplinary research audience. As you peruse these pages we encourage you to notice the wide array of topics we’ve covered in 2020, our first year. We also encourage you to view the video version of each session on our YouTube channel PVAMUResearch.

BY THE NUMBERS The Research & Innovation Training Institute (RITI) initiative was introduced by Vice President Rajan to provide researchers with ongoing professional development that addressed subjects that are supportive of identifying, writing, management, and possible commercialization research projects. RITI quickly moved it to a virtual platform in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, We have found the virtual platform served to remove geographical barriers to access, and allowed participants the freedom to log in wherever they are located. RITI supports researchers in their endeavors to write and submit successful external research funding proposals.
