100m SPAN Colab

The project is a refurbishment of the Albert Kahn’s Glenn Martin’s Bomber Factory. This project was developed in the context of an investigation into historical industrial structures. The main characteristic is that the trusses that hold the ceiling go across a 100m span between supports. The purpose of the project is to maintain the spirit of the

building, by hanging the housing from the structure, and leaving a huge public plaza on the ground floor. After the refurbishment, the structure acommodates a reasearch center, and a dormitory for the research community to use.

Plaza San Jaume Náquera

The project is designed for a competion to cover a public Plaza in Náquera, Valencia. The brief was to design a structure that could cover completely the plaza in the small town of Náquera. The plaza normally holds various activities, and should be covered by a flexible structure. For that reason, the columns are only

located on the perimeter of the canopy. The canopy is made of several cables that work together with a tensile structure, covering the interior of the circumference. The exterior ring is enclosed by a small building, that follows the shape of the canopy.

Kiosk Prof. Aparicio

This stand for aromatic herbs is an itinerant kiosk that could be set on any of Madrid’s public plazas. The aromatic herbs are exhibited inside, hanging from the methacrylate beams. This transparent trusses have a double nature: first they serve the structure as they support the ceiling. But they function as a green house at the same time. The prototype could be extended if necessary because it has a modular setup.

In this way, the kiosk could be extended in both directions, so that the costumer would feel completely surrounded by aromatic herbs. In this way, the kiosk could be extended in both directions, so that the costumer would feel completely surrounded by aromatic herbs.

Herb Drying plant Prof. Aparicio

The project is located in Casa de Campo, the biggest park that surrounds madrid’s metropolitan area. The building is a production centre where the herbs are grown, harvested, dryed and distributed. At the same time, the plant holds classrooms and workshops, where students can learn and work on this topic. Inside the centre, the classrooms and the workshops are stack together with the

greenhouses, in winter, the classes benefit from the warm air that is produced inside the greenhouses, in summer, the classrooms are isolated from the greenhouse, and can be opened in the top, to enhance ventilation. In the northern side of the building, the wooden towers are constantly ventilated by the air, fostering the drying of the herbs. This towers are strategically located before a big slope, receiving the fastest winds. The packaging and distribution areas are located just bellow the towers.

Museumsdorf Düppel is an open-air museum located in the district of Zehlendorf, Berlin. RE: Düppel Prof. Eike Roswag (TUb)

The museum recreates a medieval village that once stood on that place. Currently, the museum doesn’t have an available interior space to house the exhibitions. The project aims to solve this problem but without overshadowing the existing openair village.

The development of the museum began with a small investigation on the construction methods of the medieval huts. Thus, we proposed to develop big rammed earth walls that support timber beams covering the exhibition rooms. The project follows a longitudinal axis aimed at the open-air museum. The layout of rammed earth cores encloses a series of gardens, that will be part of the path that connects the new museum with the open-air village.

Laubengang Prof. Rainer Hehl (TUb)

The building is located in the RAW Gelände, a former train repair station in Central Berlin The building is located in the RAW Gelände, a former train repair station in Central Berlin, which became an emblematic place of Berlin alternative culture. Many leisure activities takeplace there and attract Berliners and tourists. This enclosed area lies 3.5 to 6.5 meters lower than the adjacent quarter. It reaches the train

tracks’ level of Warschauer Straße station to the South, opening onto a horizon of industrial brick buildings. The building aims to turn the street into a vertical wall of circulation. This vertical street is attached to the programs through a system of patios which are connecting both elements of the building. This “zipper” acts as a threshold space which brings life to the wall of circulation through a sequence of terraces and landings from the stairs, that are not only functional, but work as a path and extension of the programs themselves.

The architectural design is pragmatic and reduced to the “essentials”: an industry hall with a corridor in the middle and similar shops of one, two or three modules are arranged in a line. This corridor is 200m long and has a width of 2m. The different entities display their products in front of their shops, by marking a white line on the floor 40cm away from the wall. This floor plan is identical in each one of the eight halls of Dong Xuan. Walking through this corridor as

Market Prof. Rainer Hehl (TUb)

This model corresponds to a market that is part of an invented urban pattern. As a result of the layout of the projects that the students developed in this studio. The building is a market that is conceived as several linear halls that have several roof openings that allow light inside the market.

In this way, the market occupies the ground floor, as an extension of the street. The upper floor contains offices and other rooms that have a private setting.

PROTOTYPE: Caterpillar Prof. Ulargui + De Miguel

This model is an example of the work I did during my first year of architecture school. It is a result of an intuitive approach to the architecture project. In the studio, we were asked to build a prototype with just one material, without using any kind of glue. This prototype is built with wire, that is combed to form a spine, into which several pieces are assembled.
