My Heartfelt Gratitude Following the unimaginable disaster of earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, the nuclear plant explosions with the resulting fires and nuclear fallout, and now the aftershocks, I am moved to tears by the great love and concern shown to me by friends and people of Kaslo who know that I have relatives (my married sister and her family, in-laws and friends) in Japan. Knowing that my brother Yute and I would be worried to distraction, I wish to let you know that my sister Kimi was able to contact me on the emergency line for a few minutes to assure us that she and her immediate family were safe. When I told her of the concerns and many enquiries by the people here, she was overwhelmed with gratitude and wished to join me in thanking you all. Kaslo is so full of caring and loving people. I could not cherish it more or begin to express my feelings. My heart is full! I have received many calls from friends who have moved to other parts of the province or out of the country. Many of you were my ex-students. I cried. One, who I had taught over fifty years ago was wintering in Mazatlan, and upon hearing the news of the earthquake, was moved to phone his old teacher. How could I not cry? I also wish to acknowledge all of our (Buck and mine) American friends who phoned and emailed me from all over the United States. Thank you for remembering us at this especially excruciating time. Caring and loving friends make life bearable and bring sunshine to a gloomy world. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. There are no words that can adequately express my gratitude and love.

Massmarketing frauds use the internet, email, mass mailings, personal phone calls, texting, television, radio, and all forms of social networking to rip you off. Overpayment Fraud, also known as Cash Back Fraud, usually starts when you advertise something for saleoften on a free online classified site. The criminal sends you a cheque, money order or bank draft. The sum is much larger than your asking price, and you are asked to wire transfer the difference. Since cheques take longer to clear than electronic bank transfers, the money leaves your account before the cheque is confirmed as counterfeit or forged. Lawyers, realtors, gift shops, restaurants, and especially landlords are targets. Solution: Don’t wire money to strangers. Always be wary of buyers offering more than your asking price. Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. On March 26 annually, people in countries around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness. Salmo is home to two community members that are ambassadors of “Purple.� We have been touched by this disorder as mothers of young children that have been recently diagnosed with epilepsy. The Salmo Valley Youth and Community Centre (206 Seventh Street) will be hosting a perogie luncheon combined with an information table and other fun activities, on Saturday, March 26 between 11 am and 2 pm. This event promises to be fun and informative. We encourage all community members to attend and show their support. Proceeds from the event will be forwarded to The Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in British Columbia. We feel passionate that with education and awareness we will attract greater interest in research, which in turn will only benefit the interventions used to assist those living with epilepsy. When embarking on the project, Bockner was struck by the divide between the youth of today and their elders. As a young man himself, he feels that this may be in part because of the role that technology plays in our lives, an advancement that has widened the gap between the generations. Bockner’s impressive talent, inquiring gaze and sense of compassion bring out the deep knowledge and vivacious spark common to the individuals in his portraits. His words will also be on display in the form of poems, which accompany the portraits. The words similarly convey the awe and gratitude he feels for the wisdom imparted to him by these elderly individuals as they shared with him their stories and advice. The opening reception will be on Saturday, March 26 from 7-9 pm at the Langham. CONSULTATION FOR A PEST MANAGEMENT PLAN

Pest Management Plan # RDCK PMP-2011/2016 The RDCK is renewing a Pest Management Plan and will submit the plan for approval under the Integrated Pest Management Act. This Plan will describe a Mosquito Control Program using Integrated Pest Management, including the use of insecticides, and will replace the need for Pesticide Use Permits. Purpose: Mosquito Control for the purpose of nuisance control. Application Method: Treatment of mosquito larva development sites by hand and helicopter application. Location: Within the boundary of the RDCK bylaw 1293 for the Meadow Creek/ Duncan Dam/ Lardeau area and RDCK bylaw 1642 for the Pineridge subdivision area plus surface waters within a 3km buffer of the service areas outlined by the bylaws. Pesticide: Yearly totals up to, but not exceeding: • 500 ha with Aquabac (PCP No. 26863) (Bacillus thuringiensis var israeliensis) • 500 ha. with Vectobac 200 G (PCP No. 19466) (Bacillus thuringiensis var israeliensis) A selection of insecticides have been chosen to increase the ability to target mosquito populations in the most environmentally responsible method possible. All products listed are registered in Canada for the intended use. Aquabac and Vectobac have been chosen to control larval mosquitoes in their development sites. These pesticides are target specific, non-residual, and non-toxic. The RDCK will not treat the total area of all the products listed above, but will choose the best method to treat with the least environmental impact. All products are registered for mosquito control in Canada. This project will begin April 1, 2011 and be completed by March 31, 2016. A person wishing to provide information relevant to the development of the proposed Pest Management Plan may send written copies of comments to both the applicant and the Deputy Administrator of the Pesticide Control Act, Ministry of the Environment (c/o Pesticide Control Program 10470-152 Street, Surrey, BC V3R 0Y3) within 30 days of the publication of this notice. The identity of any respondents and the contents of anything submitted in relation to this application will become part of the public record. HOOKED: Forum Theatre Project For Women Hooked: A forum theatre project for women invites any women who have experience with addiction (past or present, in their own lives or lives close to them), to take part in this exciting six-week project starting April 2011. In this project women will work together on issues that relate to all of us. What will participants get out of it? Every woman participating in this project will receive lunch each week, free childcare (if needed), a close group of friends, and lots of fun and learning. Everyone who completes the project will receive an honorarium What is forum theatre? It consists of a set of games, exercises and practices that create a safe space for people to name their reality, identify the contradictions, dialogue through theatre, and to try out different solutions. It uses movement, storytelling and tableaux to explore how images of one’s personal experience reflect universal issues of power and social transformation. The final result is short scenes that are collectively created by drawing on participants’ life experience in order to engage in discussion of issues. We will create plays collectively about the issues that have come up throughout the sessions and have the chance to perform them in the community. The six week project will take place on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm, starting April 30 in downtown Nelson. We have a chance to perform publicly on June 11. We want to explore the social and personal reasons for addictions as well as the social stigma and discrimination around those with addiction issues. By exploring these issues as a community we can make change and create more safety and support.
