Silver Clay Workshop

Flower Pounding

with Melanie Blaikie

with Linda Rudkin

What is silver clay, where does it come from and how does it work? Demonstration and explanation of the main techniques; how to fire the clay at home in your own kitchen. Each student will design and create at least two or three pieces of finished jewellery which will be ready to wear by the end of the course.

This popular workshop involves using fresh flowers, leaves and a hammer to create instant images on fabric. The workshop also covers additional techniques that combine well with flower pounding and extend the range of designs that can be produced.

Layers in land and seascapes with Amanda Hislop

Saturday 14th September 2013

A one day workshop to explore methods of layering papers and fabrics to form surfaces for stitch. Explore land or seascape imagery through a process of layering, working on a fine fabric background to build layers of waste and specialist papers, natural fragments and threads. Experiment with ways of changing the surface of papers which will then be incorporated into landscape compositions developed from your own personal material. Acrylic paints can then be applied working as a resist to dyes used to enhance the inherent colour in the piece.

A variety of possible themes: Autumn, Fabulous fungi, Figurative stumpwork, Stumpwork with touch of gold, Rock pools, Feeling sheepish, Along the seashore, The dry stone wall. Each theme is designed to introduce beginners to the fascinating and intricate world of stumpwork embroidery and to encourage the more experienced student to develop techniques and individual ideas. Students may work on their own projects.
