2024 HSC Drama Showcase

5.30PM, TUESDAY 3 SEPTEMBER

GILLIAN MOORE CENTRE FOR PERFORMING ARTS

Welcome

Good evening, and thank you for joining us for the 2024 HSC Drama Showcase. Your presence here is a testament to the importance of the arts in education and the invaluable support you provide to our students as they embark on this creative journey. We are thrilled to share with you the culmination of months of hard work, dedication and passion that our students have poured into their performances.

Theatre is far more than a simple stage and script; it is a powerful medium where the boundaries of the classroom are pushed, and our students can engage with the complexities of life. In this space, they are invited to take bold risks, embrace new identities and experience the world through different perspectives. Through the magic of storytelling, they build confidence, empathy and a richer understanding of themselves and others. Tonight, we celebrate this journey of growth — one that highlights their bravery, imagination and collaboration.

Bravery is not a word I use lightly. Many of the performances you will witness tonight make brave choices. Not brave because they are a single voice on a professional stage, but brave in their content, brave in their delivery, brave in their willingness to confront difficult truths and navigate complex emotions. These young performers have dared to push beyond comfort zones, to explore narratives that challenge both themselves and their audience. Their courage lies in their authenticity and in their commitment to telling stories that matter.

Thank you in advance for hearing these stories.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents, teachers and community members who have supported our students on this journey. Your encouragement, guidance and belief in the power of the arts have been instrumental in helping them reach this point. We hope you enjoy tonight’s showcase and leave inspired by the extraordinary talent and hard work of our students.

I am exceptionally proud of the work they have produced.
