Celebrating International Dance Day

MONDAY 29 APRIL TO SUNDAY 5 MAY 2024

WHY WE DANCE

International Dance Day, or World Dance Day, is celebrated across the world on Monday 29 April to raise awareness about the importance of dance among the general public. It also aims to persuade governments all over the world to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education. Pymble embraces dance as an academic subject and co-curricular pursuit, and our dance community will be celebrating and empowering our vibrant dance culture. We also aim to expand our understanding of diversity in dance in our community and around the world.

WHY WE DANCE ACTIVITIES IN CO-CURRICULAR DANCE CLASSES

We dance because we like dancing with our friends, teamwork, moving, the feeling of being on stage, trying new things and seeing what the body is capable of. A series of activities will be conducted by all co-curricular Dance classes this week to build awareness of our collective and personal why

MASSIVE DANCE DAY

Dance is not just for the students who have learnt to step, kick and jump. Social dance is an aspect of our society that we believe should be harnessed more. The College will be gathering on Gloucester Lawn during Compass time to celebrate social dance and doing the Nutbush together. This is not an attempt to break a record but a pure celebration of our College community.

All Pymble dancers are invited to wear their Pymble Dance Uniform and Pymble Pulse scarf to school on Massive Dance Day to share their vibrant Dance pride.

Why is the Nutbush so popular in Australia? Click here to find out.

REST, RECOVERY AND RESPECT DAY

Dancers are often busy and active members of our community. Our Rest, Recovery and Respect Day will aim to allow our Year 3 to Year 12 dancers to take a moment to reflect on the past week by coming together for breakfast.

Our Year 12s will also be assigned a Year 11 buddy on this day to make them feel special.

Click here to register for breakfast. Bookings close 5.00pm on Friday 12 April.

CERTIFICATE III IN ASSISTANT DANCE TEACHING FIRST AID COURSE

All Year 11 students doing their Certificate III in assistant dance teaching will be participating in their compulsory first aid course as an incursion.

DIVERSITY IN DANCE VIDEOS

All academic teachers will be given access to a folder of Diversity in Dance videos that provide curriculum links to share with their classes.

Click here to access the Diversity in Dance folder.

EISTEDDFOD DANCE INTENSIVE WEEKEND

The Eisteddfod Dance team will participate in their annual Dance Intensive Weekend with a focus on ‘Why we dance’ and building their personal and team dance brand.
