IS MAKEUP RUINING OUR CHILDHOOD?
#PYTPRESENTS Beauty
Is make –up now a childhood hobby? When I was a young teenager, I did not even know what make-up really was The only beauty product I had in my school bag was a 99p flavoured lip gloss from my local hair shop. I was actually happy with this one item, what else did you need? Looking at some young girls these days they look so much older than their actual age. Many girls seem to be maturing faster than ever before. New make-up crazes like contouring, seem to be blurring the lines. For example, look at the 14-year-old girl, Molly O’Malia, who led rapper Tyga 26, to believe she was nearly 18. From this it shows how easy it is for young girls to look older just from a few strokes of a make-up brush. Now this is not an article to bash young girls for wearing make-up, as we all want to feel pretty. On the other hand, there is a difference between looking pretty and looking age appropriate.
My Youth
Throwing it all the way back to 2008 when I was 14, I can’t remember there being this obsession of make-up and ‘on fleekness’, maybe I was oblivious to it, or it just was not important to me at that period of time. At that age the only things that were a must was to go home on MSN, to speak to my friends like I had not seen them for five plus hours at school, and catch up on my Disney shows (don’t judge me lol!). That’s what I remember my childhood consisting of. It was all about having fun, playing out and watching That’s So Raven. I never even knew about getting my eyebrows threaded until I was about 15.
At that age, I never thought I really ever needed make-up, not saying it is now, because I actually enjoy doing myself up. I feel however my lack of knowledge of make-up came from my environment, besides the odd girls in my year group, no one close to me was infatuated with make-up. My two best friends never wore it, and my sister’s barely touched it, so there was never a time for me to experiment, as there were no products in my presence to make me curious. The actual first time, I wore a full face of make-up, was at my school prom in 2011, and I can’t tell you the next time I rushed to put it back on. Literally, believe it or not 2015, was the year I decided to go and purchase my first ever foundation (cannot lie; I love it.). I try to not wear it every day though, because some times naturalness is the best look. Embrace it!
Being Young in 2016
If I was however 14 in this generation, I can see how it may be hard to have the same childhood experience. Firstly, when I was 14, social media was not as big as it is today. Yeah we had Myspace, but it does not compare to the levels of what Instagram have rose to. All over Instagram there are dozens of pages with beautiful females, with hashtags such has #eyebrowgoals #lipstickgoals, the list goes on. For a 14 year old now, it may be hard to avoid the pressures of make-up as it is constantly thrown in your face. You’ve either got that one friend that watches YouTube tutorials and is constantly on fleek, or the #WCW PYTMAG
#themakeupdebate
post that make you sigh. Then it doesn’t help that we have these up and coming teen celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, who seem to be dolled up 24/7. What you have to understand however is that are just normal like us, they don’t wake up the way that they present themselves all over social media. I feel this has helped increase the growth in teenagers wanting to wear make-up as, all these teen stars seem to come across more mature. The adolescent years are the years were most young girls, feel the need to look perfect and look like everyone else and be part of the latest trends. Don’t, however make it interfere with your youth, because me it Is the best part of your life. It is still okay to be a child and like childhood things. You may want to look and be older, but when you get older you will want to look younger. Is the rush to look mature and grown a forever going trend? The truth of the matter you childhood can be the best years of your life, so don’t waste them trying to look older. Now I’m not saying throw away the make up brushes, I know getting dolled up is a thing that many girls enjoy, just know what is age appropriate. What you wear to school, shouldn’t be what you wear to prom. Know when to tone it up and tone it down. So love life, love make up, but also love and make the most of your youth while you still can hold on to it. 5
Beauty Beginners
Everyone experiments, everyone wants to try something new. After watching hours of make – up tutorials, we all have that feeling where we decide “Okay maybe it is my time to start purchasing make–up and doll myself up a little bit”. For all beginner’s we’re not entirely sure what to buy and how much to spend. It is always useful to start off with reasonable priced make-up products before splurging on the more pricier stuff. Especially if you don’t know what best suits you yet. Just because it has a higher price tag does not mean it is for your skin. We have put together a great range of products for our #PYTbeautybeginners, or for anyone that wants some new great cheap alternatives to slay their face with.

YOUNG,TALENTED &BEAUTIFUL
For the launch of our first edition, PYT Magazine got the amazing opportunity to work with Chloe a young aspiring makeup artist from Birmingham. At just the age of 17 Chloe shares her experiences doing her first beauty shoot, and the inspiration behind her career choice. What made you want to be a MUA in the beginning?
Photographer: Rebbecca Lowe
I’ve always had an interest in the field, ever since I was a little girl I have memories of always playing with make-up. I have gone on to study it and I really enjoyed studying it at college level. So did you have fun doing the make-up for our models for the launch of our shoot?
Yes it was a great experience one which I’d love the opportunity to do again. It really gave me a wider insight it what it will be like professionally. Did you have any nerves?
I was a little nervous as it was a new experience but I’m comfortable and confident with my ability and I’d researched the looks a lot prior. Have you ever done anything like this before?
Not on this scale, but I do a lot of makeovers for proms and birthdays. Friends and family always come to me for special occassions. Were you pleased with the final looks?

Use warmer tones on the eyes to really make them pop. Team your foundation with a highlighter to give the skin a fresh, dewy look. Use a natural gloss with red undertones to achieve that just bitten pout.
With it being for a teenage magazine I wanted to give the models a fresh natural look. I used warmer tones for the eyes to really make them pop, high radiance foundation teamed with a highlighter to give the skin a really fresh dewy look, natural gloss for the lips to complete the look.
Make-up is amazing but it isn’t everything. It’s so important to love the skin you’re in and take care of that too. As well as being healthy and looking good, clear skin is also a great base for your make-up, so beauty really does come from within. PYTMAG

Bronze glows are perfect for those sunny, summer days. Treat your skin to some good moisturizer before applying your foundation and that will stop it from looking cakey. Check out our beauty bites for affordable but good products.
How did you achieve different looks for the models? I used the same products for each model but just used different techniques to apply the make-up in order to enhance the models features. They both had completely different looks and personalities, so I wanted to be able to use the same products, whilst still representing each models style.
#PYTPRESENTS Beauty
What advise would you give to any young girls that want to become a MUA? Social media is a great tool to use for hints and tips, that’s where I started and realised I had a real passion for the art of make-up
Lastly what advise would you give to young girls who want to wear make up? It washes off its not permanent it’s good for young girls to be able to express themselves with different looks it helps them to grow and be more confident individuals.

What about make –up makes you passionate about it? It enhances your natural beauty and also enables you to be whomever it is you want to be we can create different personas very easily and it’s not permanent.
That would look cute on you too! Have you ever saw a hairstyle, that you would really like to rock, but too scared to try it? Too scared for people to say it would not look right? Too scared you might be judged because it might be cultural. Well sometimes you have to be bold and if you want hairstyle, try it, you might like it you might not. Here below we give you an amazing range of styles that any hair texture should be able to pull off.
#PYTPRESENTS Beauty
Buns Everyone loves a good bun. Messy, high, low, in a doughnut; they are the cutest hairstyle. No matter the texture of your hair there are too many styles of buns for one not to work for you. You just have to play around with your hair. Buns are one of the easiest hairstyles to achieve, and bring so much more to a look than you will realise, it actually is just an effortless hairstyle. Get the look:
Braids For the past year this "braids" trend has been anywhere and everywhere. From the girl at school, the insta famous girls online to the celebrities we adore. For many however braids have been apart of their culture for many years and are seen as a protective hairstyle and not a trend. From cainrows to box braids everyone can't seem to get enough of them. Braids however are a very versatile hairstyle, which works great with any hair texture, long or short. Get the look: Curls Who doesn’t love curly hair? Whether you were blessed with it or not the look is so achievable in different ways. Embrace your natural and keep them healthy, with amazing curly hair products from Cantu to twisted sisters. For all those that want to switch and have some bouncing curls to whip around there are so many great options. Curly extensions or weaves, the versatility is so great and you can achieve so many different types of curls, for loose to ringlets. On natural hair there are a multiple of options, the use of heat doesn’t always have to be the option. Bendy rollers are a PYT favourite, but your own hair can achieve this trying plaiting your hair and dipping it in hot water or putting your hair in bantu knots for nights. You just got to know what time of curl you want and just experiment. Get the look:
Half up, Half down <3 This is a PYT favourtite. This is one hairstyle I can actually say I have seen on so many different girls, with so many different hair textures and hairstyles. Short, long, curly, coily, braids, extensions, the list goes on. This hairstyle is truly one for everyone. Put it half up in a bun, or let the hair flow in a ponytail. It can be one the simplest hairstyles, but has the ability to bring so much edge to your look. PYT would give this look a thumbs up for the perfect summer sixteen hairstyle. Get the look:
PYTMAG and 1,385 Others Like These tips
• To make your braids last longer than a day, rub some gel into your hands when you start the braiding process. This will help stiffen your hair, get rid of fly aways and neaten the braid. • If you have thin hair, back comb the section that you’re going to put up. This will add volume to the look and stop it from looking wispy and limp. • Gel to slick your hair up in one and hairspray to hold that bun in place. A little goes a long way! For Hijabi girls, a turban style is a nice bun alternative. • Avoid brushing through your hair or the curls will turn to frizz. Argan oil and your right hand are your best tools. 12

Summertime is enroute and although we all want to be in our sunnies and sandals, this is England. So, shoes that can handle a bit of rain are always a good idea. Keeping up with the latest trend of trainers can be very painful, especially when they come and go every other week. Here we’ve put together a little list of the top five fashion forward trainers. These kicks are chick friendly and pretty affordable so they shouldn’t break the bank (of mum and dad).

REMEMBER WHEN?
#PYTPRESENTS Fashion
1. 2.
#PrimarkPearls
Oh so vintage, oh so chic. From 2007 to 2009 most of us had these cheeky pearls to spice up our outfits that (mostly) consisted of a stretchy, Primark long sleeved t-shirt, some skinny jeans and those dreadful PE plimsolls (don’t worry, we’ll get to them later). Whether it be the earrings or the necklace, we just couldn’t get enough of these bad boys. If you were really fancy, you might’ve splurged on the Topshop ones but for us ‘regular degular girls’ (Cardi B voice), the £2.50 #PrimarkPearls did the job. #BigBelts Ok, these wide disc belts who started this trend and why? I need answers Sway! So big, so pretentious and so toe-curlingly awful. They came in a rainbow assort of colours and at the time made you feel so sophisticated and fashionable. Remember when it was cool to throw these over your low slung flared jeans and tap your pointed flats into town? Yeah us too, don’t worry we feel your pain, we won’t judge you. Big belts were all the rage for a good 4 years, from those warrior wide disc ones to those huge waist belts that stretched for days. We were pretty much wearing waist trainers before we even really knew what a waist was.
We’ve all been there ladies, it’s all the rage at the time and then 3 years later you look back and think what in the hell are thoooooose?! So let’s take a look back at what we think are the top 5 best (or worse depending on how you look at it)
3. 4. 5.
fads from the last 5 years.
#GeekGlasses Not quite sure what we found so appealing about the free 3D glasses from Cineworld but clearly it was something. Poking out the 3D part and wearing them for our Facebook photos was standard procedure back in 09. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at your early Facebook photos, there will be that one person rocking them. We know, we can’t believe we used to walk around in glasses with no frame either. *hangs head in shame*.
#FlowerPower No not the cool festival kind, or the pretty wedding kind. We’re talking plain black straps with one big obnoxious flower on the side in an excruciatingly loud colour. Remember those? The clips and headbands were the pinnacle of school fashion, whether that be primary or secondary, circa 2011. #PEPlimsolls Remember those awful P.E plimsolls our mum’s used to force on us in nursery? Well somehow they managed to make a raging comeback around 2010, 2011 and all of a sudden, high street stores nationwide were stocking the lace up pumps in various colours and styles. They were very practical during our PE lessons and doubled over as some cool creps when we were headed into town afterwards.
So, which is worst? Vote on our Twitter poll! 18

19 year old Chynna is an Animal Care student as well as aspiring model and vetinary nurse. For the last year Chynna has been travelling the country to do various photo shoots and though it’s her passion, she’s started to realise that chasing your dreams can be harder than it seems. Photographer: Rebbecca Lowe
I
got into modelling from first watching Americas Next Top model when I was only 12 years old and falling in love. Then at 18, I finally got the courage to ask my nan and mom to help me try get into modelling which they did. My mom and my nan still help me to this day. I love modelling as its one of the only things I truly feel confident in. I love inspiring photographers to create stories. I did photography myself in school, so I understand the relationship between the camera and model. Modelling makes me really happy and I’ve always loved being in front of the camera. If I didn’t do modelling, I would be doing fashion design because I love the fashion industry in general.
M
y love for animals led me to study animal care alongside modelling I would list it as one of my greatest passions. I have two rabbits called Deliah and Dior also and if I could I would have more! In terms of my style, I really like cute, quirky, vintage fashion. Recently I’ve become utterly obsessed with Japanese fashion as well, I love how their culture is infused in the fashion. Since I was young, it was my dream to work in the industry, but the more modelling experience I’ve been gaining, the more I’ve realised how difficult it is. You could say that my ‘back-up’ dream would be a veterinary assistant. I’m a virgo and a libra as my birthday falls in the middle though, so I’m very strong minded and determined.
T
he pros of modelling are that it has seriously improved my self-confidence and made me love myself more than I used to. I know I often mention it, but it genuinely makes me happy becuase it’s something that I’m actually good at and that’s what pushes me to keep on trying. Each time I finish a photoshoot my passion just increases, I love it.
T
he cons are that the fashion industry has a height requirement for almost everything being 5ft6, I cant get many jobs. To me, this is unfair as though it’s my passion, I miss out on a lot of jobs because of my height. Also, with modelling you have to be very careful of being ripped off by people for a lot of money and then never producing anything. There are several fake agencies, so you have to be very serious in this industry because it can be quite dangerous if you don’t know how it works. PYTMAG

Surviving Exams
Love or hate them, you have no choice. Exams are a part of every childhood and every school life. No one finds them fun (well, maybe some of us do), but some of us will find them easier than others when it comes to revising and taking the actual exam.
Love Them
Although I prefer exams to coursework I have to make sure I always revise for every exam. I cannot just read a book and it sticks in m head. Here below is some of some useful tips that have helped me get through exams.
Hate Them
If you hate exams, don’t worry you’re not the only one. Sometimes they can feel a bit like a memory test and if yours isn’t the greatest, then that can be a daunting feeling. Have no fear, we’re to give you some top tips to get you through this nightmare.
W
rite everything down. Every important detail you come across make sure to get a note of it. For example when I find it best to write down all the useful information in a handy notebook. I find it useful to learn from your own notes, because as you’re writing it down you are taking in all the information at the same time.
C
H
S
ighlight key points. Highlighting dates, key places, key names, I feel helps remember them easier. When you go back through your notes, those points will always stand out, so you will be drawn to that key information. This will help if you to do some quick version, as you can spot or the main points quicker.
M
ake a glossary. For any exam a glossary is vital and can be used on the go. On the bus, the train or anywhere where you have free time. If you don’t have enough time to revise some days. Just take it out for a few minutes to jog your memory on certain points.
reate a schedule. I know it’s not that exciting and it sounds super obvious but you need to prepare in advance. You might hate exams, so do I, however there’s no way you can really avoid them. The best way to face them is head on.
peak to your tutor/teacher! If you really don’t understand, ask. You need to make sure you’re clear on the topics before you start your revision. Do not suffer in silence, the biggest and worst mistake you can make revising is basing your notes on assumptions.
P
repare! You have to find out what’s coming up beforehand and make sure you sort your notes out into chapters so it’s easier for you to understand. Write these down and teach them to yourself, or someone else if possible. Reading them out loud helps you understand if they make sense or not.

Know What You’re Looking For
Speaking of CVs
Just because you’re starting a part-time job it doesn’t mean you have to do this job forever and ever, but it always good to try and work somewhere which at least interests you slightly because then you’re more likely to enjoy it. The more you enjoy a job, the more likely you are to not dread waking up for it and that’s always a good thing.
Sort yours out and make sure it’s as up to date and appropriate for the position you’re after as possible. If you haven’t got much experience, just make sure you have all the relevant and important details listed. Your CV should be reflective of YOU, so don’t be afraid to do something besides the standard template you searched for on Google, just don’t over-do it. Please.
Just like shopping for shoes, but much easier. I mean you still get to be picky but you don’t have to try them all on. Just sort through the bad ones to find that one special pair… I mean job.
SHOPPING FOR JOBS
How many hours can you commit yourself to? Try and work around your current schedule so work doesn’t become an inconvenience for you and your studies. Think about what are the right days for you and whether you’re a weekender or more of a weekday kind of girl. You need to know where you’re at and that will help you narrow your search down a bit. Also letting your potential employer from the beginning halts any future confusion about your hours...and stops them in from sneaking you on the rota on days you’re supposed to be off.
Don’t just look in store, go online! I know it’s tempting to just hand your CV in to the girl at the till and go off on your merry way, but that doesn’t always work. Just like you would look online if you couldn’t find your favourite shoes in store, do the same with jobs. They don’t always have the job you want advertised in store and retail employers have admitted that just handing in your CV can end in it landing in the bin. So sometimes it’s better to fish online and you just might find what you were after.

Losing someone under any circumstances is a difficult feeling, that sense of emptiness can be overwhelming especially when it is sudden and unexpected. The hardest losses that we face can be ones where the person isn’t permanently removed from our lives, so you still have to see them in your everyday life knowing that you no longer exist in theirs. people always talks about losing love and protecting your heart once it’s been broken, but nobody talks about the real first feeling of complete rejection. We rant and rave about how girls are catty and love drama, but we ignore the fact that we usually experience our first heartbreak way before the boy who’s not worth it walks into our lives. These are two very different tales of girls who had their heartbroken by their best friends and how it affected it them.

I moved to the UK from Denmark at the tender age of five, so I remember it being difficult for me to keep long lasting friendships from when I was very young. My parents split up when I was really little so I was only moving, the only time I made friends was at the end of primary school until secondary school when we finally settled in one place. Though I was used to always being on the go, I started to develop a habit of getting overly attached to my friends too quickly. They became like a source of security for me because I was used to people coming in and out of my life, so when I made friends I felt like I had to hold onto them. I’ve always been a very independent person but the lack of stability in my childhood has always made me want to keep people around as long as possible. Leaving primary school was difficult in some senses because I wasn’t able to go to the secondary school I wanted and my main concern out of everything was that I was going to lose all my friends. So when I got to secondary school, for the first time in my life I was excited about going somewhere knew. I felt like this was the first proper opportunity to maintain real friendships and stick them out. We were finally settled and for five years I had the same friendship group, it was the first time in my life I felt like I belonged and wasn’t forcing myself to be around people who didn’t have the same interests as me. I’ve never had a boyfriend so I feel like my first real experience of heartbreak was when my friends left to go to university last year. Initially it didn’t really hit me as much because I was used to losing people and as I was older I knew there was plenty of opportunity for me to travel to them and meet up, I knew I would see them again. But within the third month of their absence I really felt the pain, it honestly felt as if my heart was tearing into two. I had no one and because of them leaving I was trying my hardest to get along with new people but it was so hard because they were nothing like me. They were classmates, not friends, these new people didn’t have the same morals as me. Social media is also a big thing, we have this group chat on WhatsApp and they would always be talking about uni stuff so I would just be lost. As well as this all over Instagram I’d see them going out together and hosting parties whilst I was stuck at home with not even one friend to see on the weekend. I don’t think the breakup was intentional, however slowly but surely I was just kind of left behind, like an old toy at the bottom of a toy box or something, I just became invisible to them. The friendship is still there but on very shaky grounds just because of the lack of communication. At times I still feel extremely lonely, you don’t realise how much you need someone that’s similar to you until you’re in a situation where you don’t have anyone who is like you. The older you get the more your friendships reflect you so don’t just settle for anyone just so you can have that security. 26

Mai Stacey and I made friends because we went to the same primary school and our families were close friends. We were inseparable from reception, her nan lives on my road so were often spending time outside of school together, from sleepovers to birthdays we did it all. It’s funny because we actually chose to go to the same secondary school because we really wanted to be close and keep our friendship but when we got there everything changed. In our new school she started to become friends with the popular girls very quickly and all of a sudden our friendship just started to fall apart. I started to see loads of changes in her, like she was wearing a lot of makeup and her image started to become more like those popular girls and so did her attitude. Stacey started to push me out more and more, this made me feel slightly jealous as well as hurt that she had moved on and I hadn’t but that let me know that I had to move on too. Moving on was hard because we had been friends for so long and I never anticipated us growing apart, especially so early into the school year, I thought our friendship would last forever. So many new things were happening at once and this made it harder and harder. My older sister had the same foundation of friendship with her best friend and I saw them stick together through secondary school so when things didn’t work out that way for me I was heartbroken. I didn’t speak to anyone about the situation, I just tried to let it go and move on with it. To me, not speaking to anyone actually made it easier for me to get on with it because I knew people would just tell me to go and make new friends and wouldn’t see things from my perspective. I think social media makes it harder to move on from friendships because you have to see them moving on at school and when you’re at home as well, it’s like you can’t get away from it. Stacey recently had a house party and all on my Instagram timeline I could just see people thanking her for the party, it was hard knowing I wasn’t even invited and a year ago I would’ve helped her plan it. My advice to someone my age going through the same thing would be just move on and don’t wait for them to come to you because you’re wasting your time. I wish that I didn’t wait or keep trying to salvage the friendship, I wish I had just moved on straightaway but oh well, lesson learned. It’s not easy but moving on is honestly the best thing you can do in the situation where someone isn’t treating you right. Romantic relationships and friendships are often similar in the sense that we often invest so much in both and when you get your heart broken it can feel like your life is falling apart, but it’s not. Know your worth and don’t settle for anyone who isn’t treating you the way you deserve to be treated. Though it can feel permanent, heartbreak is temporary, your heart will never be the same it will heal and you will be ok.

what are your spots telling you? Two words: Phone surface. Bacteria virtually lives on large areas and when your phone has been around the world in a few hours, putting that screen against your cheek for a chat isn’t the wisest idea. Also, medical websites like SkinAcea put cheek spots down to respiratory issues. A little stroll never hurt no one.

Usually when you start to see those spots on your chinny chin chin it’s a sign that T.O.M is near (time of the month). The sudden change in hormones is what causes those pesky spots to appear and sadly it’s not that easy to evict them. SkinAcea suggest that a good night’s sleep and fresh fruit and veg can help combat those stubborn spots.
That time of the month can be Bannas horribly painful and uncomfortable when unexpected. Although we can’t take the pain away for you we have put together a few things that will ease those cramps and at least get you out of bed for a bit. Painkillers are all good and dandy but it’s important to try and test other things in between. Good timing is also essential, we all know that T.O.M can be reliably unreliable however tracking your period to keep tabs on any irregular symptoms or cycles is really important. Gynaecologist Good pair of PJ’s Amie says the older you get the more you should understand about your period, how long it lasts, what your flow is like and what symptoms let you know it’s en route. Comfort food seems like a perfect idea at the time but it’s not such a great idea when those painful cramps have you doubled over. Amie’s top tip is that snacking healthy and wisely is the best Water, Water, Water thing you can do for those few days and although you don’t want to hear about it, moving around really does work. So take this on board and get your kit ready because basically What’s in your period pack? preparation is key.

!!DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!
Listen here and listen good, you need to cut out that McDonalds and swap that bottle of coke out for a bottle of water. Whilst SkinAcea argue that hair gel can cause build up in your forehead area which results in spots, it’s common knowledge that a bad diet= bad break out. We all love a good, greasy grub but if you see a gang of spots claiming your forehead then that’s your body telling you no.

DoYourResearch “For anyone providing support for someone with mental health issues be sure to do your research. There are lots of resources out there such as websites and forums and books that are focused on supporting your loved ones through their mental health journey.”
“Most mental health illnesses will have the sufferer feeling like they are not ‘normal’ and they will usually exclude themselves from society. Avoiding friends, education and work. Support from loved ones can give them a sense of ‘normality’ sufferer. This will fork a basis of acceptance back into society.”

Don’tBeAfraid “Don’t be afraid to ask questions, though you may be scared of the answer. Just try to see the situation from the sufferers point of view; no one is more afraid then them. You may find speaking to Healthy Minds or a member of their Psychiatric team very helpful; there are courses and sessions to attend to support your loved ones.”
UNDERSTANDING MENTALHEALTH
According to the ‘mental health organisation’ one in ten children and young people are diagnosed with mental health problems. Being diagnosed with bipolar at the tender age of 18, Sarah Taylor, felt a sense of relief run through her body. For the past year she had dealt with mood swings that no one could understand. From losing friends to a four-year relationship with her boyfriend ending, she felt the closest people had turned her back on her as they thought it was all just “exaggerated” feelings. Finally getting diagnosed in August 2015, sarah now wants to help others understand mental health, and to be aware of the signs.
Don’tGiveUpOnThem “Imagine feeling like you’re losing your mind, day in and day out. Then add the stress and abandonment of loosing those close to you with the feeling that your illness is pushing them away. Giving up on your loved one may seem like the easiest thing to do, but with a little research it can be an important journey for you both. Leaving your loved one will may leave you with guilt. It is not to say you should feel guilty to stay but you shouldn’t take the easy option out as they are the ones mentally going through the illness.”
Sarah’s Top 5 Tips
1. Be patient. 2. Think before you speak. 3. Try and put yourself in their shoes. 4. When unsure, don’t assume. 5. Remain true to yourself. PYTMAG

THINGS I WOULD TELL MY YOUNGER SELF
Dear PYT,
As I’m getting older I want to be able to do more things independently and start to do stuff for myself. At home I’m never allowed to make my own food or my own clothes washing as my mum thinks I will get it wrong. I’m 17 and my parents still have to drop me off and pick me up everywhere I go, It’s so embarrassing and annoying. How do I get them to let me be more independent? Love
Hey Lo,
Lo, x
Part of growing up is learning those key essential skills that you will carry throughout your life. It can be frustrating at times but do your best to try and see things from your parents’ perspective also. Teenage years are often difficult for everyone in the family. Try and meet them halfway, include them in your journey learning new skills. For example, if you want to learn to cook tell your parents you would love it if they could teach you how to make your favourite dish. A little consideration goes a long way. Above all make sure you communicate with them, they can’t change their ways if they don’t know.
If there is a tomorrow, there is always time to change. If you know better, then do better.
Love PYT x Dear PYT,
Lately I have been so unhappy at school because of some girls who I used to call friends.I’m in year 7 and me and my best friend both came from the same primary school. We were fine in the first few weeks of school but now all of a sudden she is ignoring me. In the playground she pretends not to see me and on Instagram she ignores all of my comments whilst replying back to other people. I feel like now she’s friends with the popular girls I don’t fit into her life. Love
Dear Princess M,
Princess M, x
FIND NEW FRIENDS! No friendship is worth the burden of unhappiness, especially in a new stage of your life. Just because you were friends in primary school it doesn’t mean that the friendship was necessarily meant to last forever. Distance yourself from this relationship and move on, there’s no point in forcing something that is already over. We have faith that you’ll find some new friends who will treat you as you deserve! Love
PYT x Dear PYT, I’m 17 and I have never had a boyfriend, am I weird? Love
Chloe, x
Dear Chloe,
Have a question? Then let us know we might be able to help you. Head to the PYT Platform where you can submit questions either anonymously or by name. You can also see more #G2g posts on there. 30
No one likes to be the single friend but we have all been in that position at some point in our lives! The short answer is no, you’re not weird at all. You may feel like you’re supposed to have a boyfriend or you need one because of what you see around you, but it will happen at the right time. Don’t try and force yourself into a relationship, let the right person find you. 17 is still very young, take your time there’s no rush and you will end up with Mr.Right when you least expect it.
