Mohammad Zaza

Mohammad Zaza Syrian artist, born 1987 in Riyadh, KSA. Zaza grew up in a creative family; watching his father paint proved to be his main inspiration in becoming an artist. He studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Aleppo, graduating in 2010. Since then he has continued his art, becoming known for his unusual combination of troubling, distorted figures and elegantly appealing colour compositions. In his work, Zaza aims to redefine preconceptions of form; he removes the links between shape and function, instead imagining his subjects as gelatinous, unrestricted by any fixed purpose. In giving the eye a number of ways in which to see something, the painting and the viewer can interact on an individual level, giving each person a unique experience. In his latest works, he continues this theme, combining it with his long-held fascination with machines and their interaction with society. In technology, as in nature, each object exists to fulfil a specific need, therefore limiting them in terms of shape. Forms are limited by function, thus he seeks to imagine his creations as amorphous and detached from their context. What, then, would it mean for society if creators of all kinds were able to break away from previous prototypes, to think outside the box and reimagine the technology of daily life?
