PUBLIC LIBRARY objective
SITE LOCATION : MINSK SQUARE, BANGALORE MINSK SQUARE WAS USED FOR PROTESTS AND PUBLIC EVENTS. LATER WAS CHANGED TO OLD AIRPORT ROAD.
the objective of THIS DESIGN IT TO CREATE A SENSE OF EASY TRANSITION BETWEEN THE OPEN AND CLOSED FORMS AND TO PROVIDE A USER FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT WHERE ONE CAN BE IN HIS OWN COMFORT ZONE. THE AIM IS TO DESIGN A PUBLIC LIBRARY WHICH FOCUSES ON A DISCIPLINED AND AN INFORMAL APPROACH TO THE SPACES. THE LIBRARY IS TIED UP USING FINS AND PERGOLAS, WHICH CHARACTERISES THE STRUCTURE TO HAVE TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS AMIDST THE MODERN CONTEXT. THE LIBRARY CONSISTS OF A CENTRAL ATRIUM WHICH RUNS THROUGHOUT THE BUILIDNG ENCLOSED BY A SKYLIGHT, WITH ALL THE OTHER SPACES LOCATED AROUND IT.

extruding blocks from various floors, which are extended balconies and function as outdoor reading spaces. these blocks act as breathing spaces. this kind of space gives the user VERY INTERESTING VIEW OF THE ENTIRE SURROUNDINGS. HELPS TO INTEGRATE THE OPEN AND CLOSED SPACES IN THE BLOCK.

OUTDOOR READING CUBICLES.
SECTION AA’ THE FLOORS FOLLOW A UNIFROM ARRANGEMNET AND ARE PLACED ONE ABOVE THE OTHER. THE SECOND FLOOR CONSISTS OF A MEZZANINE FLOOR, WHICH ALLOWS THE USERS TO HAVE A LOOK INTO THE ACTIVITIES HAPPENING BENEATH. THE OTHER HALF OF THIS FLOOR, IS A DOUBLE HEIGHT READING AND STACKING AREA, WHICH MAKES THE SPACE FEEL MUCH LARGER. EVERY FLOOR CONSISTS OF A PRIAVTE READING ZONE. OUTDOOR READING SPACES ADD ONTO THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE LIBRARY, AND ACTS AS AN INFORMAL READING ZONE. SECTION BB’ THIS SECTION CONSISTS OF TWO ZONES, THE BELOW PART IS THE AUDITORIUM AND TH E ABOVE PART IS THE LIBRARY ( 2ND FLOOR ONWARDS ). THIS ABOVES PART OF THE BLOCK IS PROVIDED WITH A SKYLIGHT, WHICH LIGHTS UP THE INTERIORS. THE CUTOUTS ARE MADE IN A STAGGERED MANNER SO AS TO ALLOW DIFFUSED LIGHTING TO ENTER INTO THIS AREA. THE USERS ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OVERVIEW OF THE SPACE FROM DIFFERENT POSITIONS.

JUVENILE REHABILITATION CENTRE OBJECTIVE
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DESIGN A SPACE USING SITE, NATURE AND BUILDING BLOCKS. TO PROVIDE A BETTER LIVING CONDITION TO THE YOUTH AND SUPPORT THE REHAB PROGRAMMES. THE AIM IS TO DESIGN A DETENTION CENtre WHICH WILL BE MORE OF A HOME THAN A PRISON. A PLACE WHERE THE JUVENILES WILL BE CARVED, NURTURED AND THEIR BASIC RIGHTS ARE PRESERVED. A PLACE WHICH FOCUSES ON A DISCIPLINED ENVIRONMENT AND PROVIDES FREEDOM TOO, FOR THEM TO EXPLORE THEMSELVES.

STUDENT DORMITORY AS THE JUVENILES WOULD SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME IN THE DORMITORY, THIS block is DESIGNED TO FEEL MORE LIKE HOME. THE ENTIRE BLOCK IS BROKEN DOWN INTO SMALLER BLOCKS WITH GREEN POCKET SPACES IN BETWEEN them , THAT ARE USED AS INTER- ACTIVE AREAS. THE ENTIRE BLOCK is TIED USING PERGOLAS AND JALI WALLS.
USE OF PERGOLAS TO PROVIDE SHADE, WHICH CREATES AN INTERESTING PATTERN ALONG THE OPEN CORRIDORS.
INTERMEDIATE GREEN SPACES, WHICH BREAKS DOWN THE CONTINUITY OF A SINGLE BLOCK. JALI WALLS ARE USED TO GIVE A SENSE OF OPENNESS AND ACT AS SEE THROUGH POINTS INTO THE EXTERIOR AREAS
A LOWERED HERBAL GARDEN IS PROVIDED WHICH GIVES A SENSE OF CALMNESS TO THE INMATES.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE this is a traditional schooling system set in the arms of modern society. the more interaction with nature, the more one can learn. this centre involves hands on experimental way of learning. students are also taught amidst nature under trees, with fresh air and sushine, along with a variety of outdoor activities like pottery making, wall painting, model making, etc.

JALI WALLS, TO PROVIDE A SENSE OF OPENNESS. SKYLIGHTS, TO NATURALLY VENTILATE THE CORRIDORS
SKYLIGHTS/PERGOLAS, TO LIGHTEN UP THE LONG DARK CORRIDORS. PROVIDES A SENSE OF CONNECTIVITY WITH THE SKY ABOVE. OUTDOOR PLAY AREA/ ACTIVITY AREA USE OF PLANTERS AND POTTED TREES ALINGED ALONG THE CORRIDORS, TO MAKE THE INTERIOR NATURE FRIENDLY.

ADMINISTRATion block faculty housing the movement into the administration block is through a flight of steps and a glass cubicle. movement through this wide opening caters to the staff and management. the further plan house a reception, pantry, information centre, accounts section, board room and a waiting lounge for the public. this block is connected to the justice juvenile board and to the staff housing. material used : exposed concrete
this block has two storeys. consists of 1bhk and 2bhk. the enrty is through the admin department. the houses surround a courtyard, which can be used as a spill out or a gathering space. the corridors are sahded with pergolas.

THIS IS A COMMUNITY HOUSING PROJECT DESIGNED FOR THE WEAVING COMMUNITY RESIDING IN ILKAL TO IMPROVE THE LIVING STANDARDS OF THE WEAVERS AND PEOPLE FROM OTHER OCCUPATIONS LIKE CATTLE REARING, CARPENTERS, LABOURERS, MINERS, ETC. THE HOUSES ARE IN CLUSTERS TO PROVIDE A COMMON CONNECTING COMMUNITY SPACE FOR THE RESIDENTS. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ACHIEVE A COMMUNITY CHARACTER BY ESTABLISHING HARMONY BETWEEN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND THE PEOPLE.ALSO, TO CREATE A BALANCED COMMUNITY OF VARIOUS SOCIO ECONOMIC GROUPS TO EVOLVE A FRAMEWORK THROUGH DESIGN.

IN MODERN USAGE, THE WORD “ORIGAMI“ IS USED AS AN INCLUSIVE TERM FOR ALL FOLDING PRACTICES. THE GOAL OF THIS ART FORM IS TO TRANSFORM A FLAT SQUARE SHEET OF PAPER INTO A FINISHED SCULPTURE THROUGH FOLDING AND SCLUPTING TECHNIQUES. APPLICATIONS : WALL HANGINGS, FURNITURE , SHOW PIECES
