Service to Mankind... It is Our Primary Duty
A
llah has placed his rights equal to the rights of the people. That is why we see in Holy Quran when Allah (SWT) ordains, His slaves to worship Him alone. Immediately He asks his slaves to be good to their parents, relations, orphans, poor, neighbours, near and far, travellers and your slaves. This makes it very clear that next to worship of Allah (SWT) is the service to mankind especially to those who are in need of it. It shows the importance of service to mankind in the eyes of Allah (SWT). As Prophet (May peace & blessings of Allah be upon Him) says that whole mankind is the family of Allah and the best amongst you is the best to mankind. One who is real follower of the Prophet of Islam (May peace and blessings of Allah be upon Him) cannot resist the temptation of serving the mankind in general and those in need in particular. The more a person is helpless, poor or destitute, the more he deserves our attention, sympathy and help. And as they say charity always begins at home. Do we take care of our orphans,

In Pursuit of Comfort for Destitute
W
ith the onset of turmoil in 1990s & other already existing circumstances the number of orphans, widows & destitute in J&K increased which threw serious unimaginable challenge to the community & society at large, in J&K. The suffering, pain and misery was inconceivable and rampant which would demand immediate attention and soothing response. Different studies have put number of orphans in lakhs with latest one study claiming it to be over 02.14 Lakhs in J&K. Orphans in the age group of 0-6 years & 06-14 years, due to lack of parental care (particularly of father) and livelihood have been living a miserable life without minimum levels of subsistence. Education, healthcare & shelter for such destitute have been the biggest challenges for the community concerned about welfare & rehabilitation of orphans, widow & destitute. Widows have been living pathetic, inhuman and pitiable life, which again is one of the biggest challenges. Marriage of thousands of poor & needy girls gets delayed & largely missed due to paucity and non availability of minimum resources to solemnize their marriages. This again is a big social issue. Absence of authentic studies by researchers is another challenge. Setting up of orphanages for orphan children is not desirable but a big compulsion. Apathy on the part of
close relatives & blood relations of orphans, widows & other destitute, remains major issue which deserves renewed attention. The mushrooming of fake ‘TRUSTS, NGOs, Other Voluntary Organizations’, with the support of certain bad
sincere cross section of people. The irregular & low rate of payment of Zakat, Sadaqat, Khairat, other donations & charity, by the general rich and well off Muslim population, is also taking toll of the welfare and rehabilitation activities for the deserving. Lack of physical interaction, association, proximity of general people (including children & parents) with the orphans, other destitute people poses a serious danger of coming up of secluded generation of (Orphan) Section of Society with secluded attitude, outlook & mindset. Other general social issues includes female foeticide, child labour, child abuse & girl child abuse Twelve years on, J&K Yateem Foundation on the basis of its experience, suggests modus operandi wherein we need to focus on inculcating sense of empathy for orphans, widows & destitute, through genuine result oriented awareness campaigns. The genuine Islamic scholars, Ulema, organizations and others concerned need to play pro active role publicly highlighting the challenges related to these important elements, brings disrepute to the issues besides coming up with noble missionary work. Similarly, workable solutions and strategies lack of genuine social audit of to tackle issues like remarriage of NGOs, voluntary organizations, widows, etc. etc., without accountability related All genuine literate, educated & to the receipts & expenditures, is other sections of civil society need another issue which warrants to come forward with their practical serious attention on the part of support & coordination for devising

better programmes & strategies for the welfare & rehabilitation of orphans, widows & destitute. The Govt departments and related agencies must come up with information about provisions, allocations & expenditure details about various social welfare schemes & programmes publicly, so that the deserving could be benefitted. National, Overseas and International Aid Agencies & individual contributors must extend their helping hand to local genuine & credible NGOs, voluntary organizations, to supplement this humanitarian work. In this regard, the Govt has the constitutional obligation to facilitate the work.
Media, both print & electronic, writers, scholars, intellectuals, columnists, opinion leaders, students etc, have a great role & responsibility to highlight the plight of orphans, widows and destitute in proper perspective. They must also come up with solutions of problems, deficiencies & discrepancies in the present structure of activities related to the welfare & rehabilitation of destitute. May Allah (SWT) guide us to work sincerely

Welfare Programmes 1) Bait-ul-Hilal at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar & Chawalgam Kulgam: Ideally, the best home for orphan children is their own home with their own relatives to offer patronage. However, compulsive undesirable circumstances compel hapless children to be brought up in orphanages. J&K Yateem Foundation has its origin in setting up an orphanage titled “Bait-ul-Hilal , in a rented house, at Gogji Bagh, a posh locality in Srinagar, in year 2000. By the grace of Almighty, two such homes are presently running at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar & Chawalgam, Kulgam in South Kashmir, with 50 & 30 resident children (inmates), respectively. Both the orphanages are equipped with modern facilities of lodging and children are provided best possible balanced and nutritious food. t was a moment of pain. It was a moment of pleasure. It was a moment of introspection. It was a moment of hope. It was a moment of helplessness. It was a moment of excitement. It was a moment of despair. After a painful separation of about nine months on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Gh. Mohammad Rather, an octogenarian, hugged his seven year old grandson Aabid Nazir passionately, at our home. Tiny droplets of tears rolled down his wrinkled cheeks. Little Aabid was busy playing with grey beard of his grandfather. The old man showered all his love on Aabid. For there was no one - neither father nor mother who would shower their love and affection upon him. The scene of fondness lasted for a moment. I and my uncle were left speechless by this rare scene of concern. Nazir Ahmad Rather, an energetic young man, lived at Arin Bandipora, around 70 Kms from Srinagar in North Kashmir. The village is a beautiful hamlet surrounded by lush green mountains. A fresh water stream called Nallah Arin carves its way through this village. The fresh icy water of the stream serves as a heaven for rare trout fish and an elixir for the inhabitants. Nazir grew up in the lap of these salubrious environs of this idyllic village. As a labourer he was bound to work dawn to dusk to redeem the ever increasing needs of his family. By virtue of his hard work he was quite satisfied with his lot. Theirs was a happy family. A family enjoying themselves in the happy

Unfortunately, this state of life did not last long. The nature willed otherwise and then took a dramatic turn for the worst. Nazir was diagnosed to have Leukemia. This shattered Nazir and his wife and other family members. His fight against disease drained out his available resources. At last he succumbed to the dreaded disease, and breathed his last on
15th Oct 2008. With this the responsibilities shifted to the feeble shoulders of the ailing old man. Shaken and broken by the death of his young son, the old man was forced by the circumstances to take care of his grand children and widow daughter in law. In the changed circumstances, the young widow remarried. This put additional burden on the old man who was forced to manage the little orphans single handedly. However, the blessings of Allah (SWT) came to his rescue and he came to know about Baitul-Hilal, a home for orphans run by J&K Yateem Foundation. There was a ray of hope for him. Finally, Aabid landed in the lap of Bait-ul-Hilal Jawhar Nagar Srinagar. The old man was relieved to a great extent. Now every year he pays visit to Jawahar Nagar to see his grandson. Aabid too visits his ‘home’ on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. Presently Aabid studies in Oasis Public High, Gogjibagh, Srinagar in 3rd Grade. He has become familiar with Danish , Faisal and other companions at Bait-ul-Hilal. Instead of mother, he knows the warden. Instead of playing on the scenic embankments of Nallah Arin, with his brother Aamir, he now plays on the court yard of Bait-ul-Hilal. His world has shrunk from Bait-ul-Hilal to Oasis Public School. No doubt he receives utmost care and all facilities of the day. But he lacks and lacks it deeply. That is the parental care and love. Had there been no Bait-ul-Hilal, what would have been the fate of Aabid? The answer to this million dollar question lies with his grandfather –Ghulam Mohamamd Rather.

Fateh is worried that in not so distant future, all her children will be out of school and working in ill-paid jobs. “My dream after Bashir’s disappearance was to at least give these children who have missed their father’s love, a dignified future, but it seems unlikely”. Fateh’s relatives have helped her every now and then, but with their own responsibilities have not been able to sustain it. Fateh Jan’s predicament is not a unique in today’s Kashmir. Since the onset of armed insurgency in 1989, around 70,000 Kashmiris (mostly men) are reported to have died. . An independent survey reveals there are over 32,000 widows and more than 97000 orphans in Kashmir. There are between 8,000 and 10,000 cases of alleged disappearances. Amongst those men who were disappeared, 2500 were known to be married. Their spous-
es have tragically come to be known as half-widows. Due to their uncertain status they have become a marginalized group in the society. It is rare for the half-widows to remarry and most remain hopeful that their husbands will return one day. According to a study conducted at the Department of Sociology, University of Kash¬mir only 8 percent of the half-widows have remarried or intend to remarry while 91 percent have not remarried and have decided not to marry. Most women from affected households have assumed the task of caring for families. The disappeared men are often the main or only income providers in their households, solely responsible for financially supporting wives, children and frequently parents. After alleged disappearances, the financial situation of the family especially that of the half-widows becomes very dire .Their children become the worst sufferers. According to an Amnesty Report (1999) children of the disappeared have become
pushed into becoming child laborers in automobile workshops, homes, farms, carpet weaving, shops etc. They face undesirable conditions and exploitation just as manifested in the life of Hanief and Rubina. In response to this scourge of destitution brought about by “halfwidowhood” and “half-orphanhood”, we Kashmiris have to take time to reflect and find means to help alleviate the situation. According to Dr. Dabla while Fateh and her children live between hope and despair – of Bashir being alive or dead somewhere, they need help to survive. More importantly they need to survive with dignity. Issues of Unmarried Girls Rehabilitation of Widows Javaid Jawad
B
y having a thorough look on the books of human history, it becomes evident that whenever human societies came across the difficulties, womenfolk have became the main victims of all sufferings. Mothers deserted their loved ones forever, many married females lost their better halves forever and so many sisters lost their brothers in their tender and prime age group. Nature has blessed women folk and made them epitome of love and sacrifice. As such, the unexpected loss of her nears and dear plunges a female into physical and mental trauma. When a female loses her support, brother, husband, son, she gets ready to fight amidst odd situations with a lot of compromises as well. A woman feels helpless and desperate when she is caught in complex situations and no one seems to come forward for her help. Instead, fingers are raised while casting aspersions on her moral character. In situations like this, conscious and responsible members of the society should come forward to help such women to come out of despair and hopelessness and whole society needs to cooperate and coordinate in these endeavors. Since 1989, the state of Jammu & Kashmir has been passing through such a situation that an unlimited number of people have been affected in one way or the other, irrespective of age and sex, and these 14
wounds seem to be still fresh despite the elapse of more than 2 decades. Although efforts have been and are being made at different levels to get redressed the problems faced by the society, yet a lot needs to be done. So many issues need our attention, most important and immediate being the attention towards young widows and umarried girls who have crossed or are on the verge of crossing the age of marriage. J&K Yateem Foundation, like other welfare organizations utilizes its resources to help some of the helpless widows in the form of financial assistance under the Widow Welfare Program (WWP) for last 12 years now. But, there is no dearth of such women who are compelled by various circumstances to move from one door to another begging to meet various basic needs like food, upbringing and education of children. Some times such women may fall prey to the evil designs of some nefarious elements and their honor and chastity may be at stake. It is our collective responsibility to take necessary steps and ensure that women do not become victims of exploitation and sense of deprivation. Islam not only allows but encourages remarriage of widows, which is one of the best ways of their simple, permanent and respectable rehabilitation, if taken in a broader spirit and sense. This can bring an end to every worry of a widow. But being under the influence of western culture, mar-
riage with widows is being looked upon inferior and a social taboo besides equivalent to sin or a crime. It is the need of the hour that conscious and responsible citizens of the society come forward and focus attention towards this issue. Political uncertainty has affected thousands of people. Moral character has been eroded under the influence of western culture. Earlier, we used to prefer character over appearance, property and wealth. But now, it is the reverse trend in the present times. The pious institution of marriage has been turned into a full fledged business in the form of dowry and other customs. As a result thousands of girls who have reached the age of marriage and some have even crossed it, are silently wailing over the insensitivity of the society. Although various welfare organizations are working in this regard including the J&K Yateem foundation which under its program Marriage of Poor & Orphan Girls (MOPG), is trying its level best to get poor and destitute girls married. However, a lot needs to be done in this regard. Let’s stop being in a state of inertia. It is already too late that we can’t afford any more delay. Time has come to join hands together irrespective of sectarian, racial, regional differences to help the deserving lot of our community and redress their problems. (Javaid Jawad is a Columnist)
Awakening
Institution of Simple Marriage Marriage of thousands of poor and needy girls gets delayed. This subjects them to physical , mental and psychological trauma, thereby damaging our social fabric. This also leads to immorality and waywardness. Besides, it makes fairer sex vulenerable to exploitation and scandalous practices. In order to sensitize our community Ehsaas sought opinion of the organizations sensitive to the issue and practically contributing in this area. These includes Humsafar Marriage Counseling Cell, Better Life Society, Islamic Marriage Trust, Shamma Foundation and Idara Fallah-u-Daarain. We are reproducing the responses hereunder.

lack of knowledge about the Islamic way of Nikah that the common people do not follow the simple marriage code. Q: What is the impact of simple Nikah concept on social and family life? A: Thanks to Almighty. Turning to Islamic way of marriages, people do not get trapped into debts and the two families (of bride and groom) are connected whole heartedly and not out of greed or for material benefits. Almost all marriages facilitated by us have been successful, by the grace of Almighty Allah (SWT).
Q: It has been observed that well-off people most often adhere to the practice of simple marriages than the weaker sections of society who still follow the traditional way of so many customs & extravagance. Do you agree? Q: What is your appeal and mesA: This is true and proven fact. It sage to the religious leaders, may be because of illiteracy and scholars, social workers, organ-
izations and common people? A: Various social evils related to marriage like dowry, extravagance, immorality and other customs are on alarming rise in our State, particularly in the Valley. We should understand our responsibilities and work individually and collectively to bring an end to these evils. Religious leaders, scholars, social workers, organizations and conscious citizens have a special role to play. Let us sink all differences and work for full implementation of Islamic values so that all sections of society get benefitted from the true and time tested Islamic teachings. A: I believe that simplicity and austerity observed while performing nikaah and marriage in not impossible. It needs proper implementation of the program by religious leaders, scholars, social workers and responsible citizens at individual and collective levels. Also, a message needs to be passed on to the common masses so that we soon see an end to this social evil. (Idara Falah-u-Daarain is in social and educational service for the past several years in Baramulla Town which has earned it a rare fame.)
‘Ehsaas’ in Conversation with Mr Gh Nabi Shaida Q: With what purpose was Shama Foundation(SF) launched? A: It was launched on 9th July 2007, with 3 main objectives: • Provide all possible help and support for needy females suffering from cancer. • Provide financial support to conduct marriage of poor destitute girls. • Provide scholarship of Rs 1000 per month to poor & orphan girl students for higher studies 16
Q: What steps does SF takes regarding the marriage of needy/ deserving girls? A: SHAMA Foundation has been trying its best to provide all possible financial support to solemnize marriage in a single way. Q: A large number of girls have crossed the age for marriage. How do you view this delicate/ sensitive issue? A: It is a serious & sensitive issue which should be taken seriously & dealt with immediately.
Q: Being experienced & renowned journalist & social worker, what solution do you suggest for this problem? A: I emphasize upon constituting committees at every village/ mohalla level. Moreover, the affluent & well off, while solemnizing their marriages, should not forget poor needy girls & they should provide financial support & help to them. (Mr Gh Nabi Shaida is the Editor in chief of Daily “Wadi Ki Awaz” & Founder SHAMA Foundation)
Dr Tariq Ahmad in conversation with ‘Ehsaas’ Q: What inspired you for facilitating simple & Islamic way of marriage? A: A seminar on “Concept of Nikah in Islam” conducted by J & K Yateem Foundation at B Ed College Srinagar in 2008 and pamphlets about the nikaah/ marriage written by Dr Israr Ahmad, inspired and motivated us for this cause. Q: How many marriages have you facilitated / conducted till date? A: Since 2009, we have conducted 7 marriages including that of two of my own sisters. On many occasions, we at least facilitated that reception of Baraat be kept a simple affair with smaller number of invitees. Q: It has been observed that well-off people most often adhere to the practice of simple marriages than the weaker sections of society who still follow the traditional way of so many customs & extravagance. The condition of the villagers was miserable despite the occasion being that of an Eid. They never expected fresh vegetables, meat and were going to do with pulses and dried vegetables. Suddenly, people were overjoyed after catching the sight of the volunteers of J&K Yateem Foundation carrying a healthy and nice looking sacrificial animal, towards the village. The animal was slaughtered and the meat distributed among the poor villagers who felt happy and content after the volunteers spent some hours with them. Since then J&K Yateem Foundation has been continuously carrying out such activity in similar far flung areas.

high flying government dignitary, once in the area, would see him necessarily. One day he was killed. Times changed and so did fortunes. All those who owed him backtracked. The family was rendered penniless. Kids were put off the expensive school and one of the sons started tuitions to feed the family, when he was himself in B. Sc. Part I. Not only this, the widow also went in search of a job to feed her kids whom their father had reared with utmost care. We need to sensitise ourselves and sense our responsibilities which we have unfortunately not. If I demand something special for my son, I should remember an orphan nearby who has none to plead for. We need to look around and assess our role. I am sure enough repentence would be in store for us. The Holy Quran has made very clear and categorical commands regarding treatment of orphans. The Prophet of Mercy (Peace be upon Him) owned them and held them close to His chest. We ought to follow Him (Peace be upon Him) in this Sunnah (Way of Prophet’s Life). We ought to remember that these orphans and destitute might be like the kids above who were caught in a situation by sheer luck. When an orphan cries the whole universe shakes, we are often told. The lady from New Delhi was wise enough. She understood her responsibility and saved herself from the shrieks of orphans. Lest we are caught hold off on the Day of Judgment. God forbid. Q: Why did you need the support of Baitul Hilal? A: My father was a laborer & we used to hardly make both ends meet. Despite poverty, my father sent my four sisters to Govt. school for studies and I was admitted in a private school for pursuing my studies, which was a dream of my parents, being youngest and the only son. After my father passed away, we lost the only earning hand. How could my mother manage everything? Every one feared that I would not be able to continue studies and become able to support my family, so I took help from Baitul Hilal.
I still consider Bait-ul-Hilal Jawahar Nagar as my real home as it supported me at a crucial time and proved a solid foundation for my upbringing and shaping my future
Q: What about the behavior of Foundation care takers with you or others? A: Very generous, responsible, parent like care and behavior.

Setting up of Orphanage A Compulsion Setting up of orphanages is not desirable but a compulsion. If left unattended and uncared, the orphans and destitute children could be on streets and become liabilities. Ehsaas sought opinion of managements of prominent orphanages to clear certain misgivings, which includes J&K Yateem Khana , J&K Yateem Trust, Help Foundation , FETO, People Educational Trust Baramulla, Idara Fallah u Daarain Baramulla, Al- Mehmood Children Home, Jawharnagar Sriangar. We are reproducing their responses hereunder:-
Gh Mohiuddin in conversation with ‘Ehsaas’ Q: What was the purpose of establishing the orphanage? A: Peoples Educational Trust (PET) was established with many aims and objectives. Establishing children homes is one of the basic motives. Such children homes should provide care and quality education, academic as well as religious & moral, to the orphans, poor and destitute. This will help in their better upbringing and make them responsible and respectable citizens in the society.
Q: In your opinion, what should be the responsibility of people towards the orphans, poor and destitute? A: Thanks to Almighty. People are contributing and donating a lot in every way. There are both weak and rich sections in the society. Well-off people are being tested and judged by Almighty for their wealth and weaker sections like wise for their poverty. Rich should develop the responsible attitude of helping generously the fellow weaker sections.
Rich should develop the responsible attitude of helping generously the fellow weaker sections.
Q: Do you think the purpose for which orphanages were established is getting fulfilled? A.Thanks to Almighty Allah. I think our efforts are bearing fruit, particularly in the two children homes that we have established at Sopore & Baramulla.
Gh. Mohiuddin Rather Chairman Peoples Educational Trust Baghi-Islam Baramulla.

‘Ehsaas’ in Conversation with Mr Ab Rashid Hanjoora Q: With what purpose did you set up an orphanage? A: Because of the present prevailing uncertain/ unfavorable circumstances, there has been consistently a considerable increase in the number of orphans, with each passing day. Most of the orphans lack resources at home for their complete physical and mental development, particularly affecting their education. So we have established an orphanage to provide education as well as a favorable environment for proper physical & mental nourishment of this neglected section. We wish that these children also become responsible, conscious, skillful and respected citizens, like their peers.
A favorable atmosphere should be created for education, welfare & marriage of orphans, with the active participation of general public provision of a favorable environment and best possible facilities available at orphanages and above all, the efforts of experienced, skilled, honest & hardworking managing teams of the orphanages.
Q: What should be the responsibilities of people towards the orphans? A: There has been an alarming increase in the number of orphans Q: Do you think the very purpose and unfortunately they lack resourcof establishing orphanages is es to get facilities what other children getting fulfilled? who are not orphans, poor, destitute A: By all means. Especially with the get. Besides that, there is no definite
system for welfare & monitoring of such children. So, people should give utmost attention to their welfare, otherwise such children, if neglected & not cared for, can be damaging and harmful for the society in future. It is not humanly possible to admit & support thousands of orphans at these orphanages. So it is the responsibility of people to arrange for welfare, nourishment and education of such children at community level itself. A favorable atmosphere should be created for education, welfare and marriage of orphans, with the active participation of general public. Well off & affluent in the society can support such children individually, that every child gets a well monitored care and achieves a safe and secure future. (Ab Rashid Hanjoora is the Founder of J&K Islamic Relief & Research Trust (IRRT) Dar-ul-Ahsan runs under IRRT)
‘Ehsaas’ in Conversation with Mrs Nighat Shafi Q: With what idea was your orphanage established? A: Every member of the society has certain responsibilities towards it. This sense of responsibility inspired us to work for social issues at non government level, so came up “SHEHJAAR Foundation”.
this perspective, we established an orphanage where we admitted & supported children from Baramulla & Kupwara in order to secure the future of orphan, poor & destitute children. All praises to Almighty that the pass outs from the orphanage are doing well in different fields, which is being duly acknowledged. Our main aim was to provide welfare to such children at a crucial stage & I think we have been very much successful in this endeavor.
Q: Do you find the purpose getting fulfilled? A: With the political situation taking an uncertain & unfavorable turn after 1988, there was an alarming rise in the number of Q: From your experience, what orphans, widows & disabled. In do you think should be the 24
responsibility of people towards orphans? A: It seems that the situation has improved considerably now. The society should take this issue seriously. The orphans should be provided full support to grow up in their domestic/ family environment itself, thus paving way for their overall development, like other children. (Mrs Nighat Shafi is the Chairperson of HELP Foundation).
‘Social Service... Our Responsibilities’ Mehmood ur Rashid
The importance of giving to others – being generous to others When three elements meet, civilization – is civilisational in its import. It establishes itself firmly. It is true for needs a good deal of explaining all the civilizations that exist on the and this is not the place to do timeline or on the spectrum of that. Nevertheless, it is important space. These three elements are Truth, Virtue and Aesthetics. Muslim civilization, of which Kashmir is a part, has these elements manifestly present in it. Our Truth, the Oneness of Almighty God, connects us to the core of this creation. Our Virtue, caring for others, connects us to the human society. And our Aesthetics, Literature and Poetry, connects us to the beauty of life and universe. If one of these elements is missing civilization experiences a deadening effect. If we stop being responsible towards our society the element of virtue weakens, resulting in the stifling of the civilization. Put in simpler words, when we stop to remind ourselves that the caring for others – poor, needy, teachings of Quran – the most destitute, under-privileged, old authentic source of Muslim Civilization aged – we bring down the most – make it a central concern. vital pillar of our Muslim civilization The portions of Quran revealed in Kashmir. being laid down, are full of emphasis in this regard. Quran actually draws distinction between Good and Bad in terms of who spends for others and who does not. This facet of the character of the believers is highlighted in almost every chapter of the early suras. Reading those portions of Quran one grasps the importance given to the act of giving to others. It looks as if God has sent us just to test who spends the wealth for others. This is where the faith is put to test, and this is where our being human is verified. So by being responsible to others, we are actually serving our own self. The route to the self goes through others. We are not doing any favours to our society if we spend a portion of our wealth on it we are only proving that we are humans, and one day we have to meet our Lord. Awareness is the need of hour I congratulate J&K Yateem Foundation to organize such programmes where the members of society, are being invited and made to participate in the event. I hope in future the organization will continue to organize such functions not annually but after every three months to make people of society aware or awaken about the social responsibility. This should become part of day to day life of every citizen. In present system and scenario the awareness about such programmes is need of the hour. Muslim Jan, Editor MERC, Kashmir University

Al-Hamdulillah . Many thanks to Allah Almighty that fully dedicated, zealous and Kind hearted youngsters have started this great Foundation (JKYF). It is really serving the community and deserving orphans which is the actual form of “Haqooq-ul-Ibad” (rights of people). May Allah bless the Foundation and its workers and volunteers. Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool (ENT Specialist, President Shafaqat School For Children with multiple disabilities , Bemina) 28
It is indeed a matter of joy for me to attend 12th Annual Day programme of J&K Yateem Foundation and know about its activities. It is heartening to know that during a brief period since its inception, the Foundation has earned laurels and credibility in the entire society and is engaged in the areas that are considered to be most critical owing to the aftermath of turbulence that is still on in some or the other form. I wish the organizers all the best in all their endeavors. Syed Shakeel Qalandar Former President Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), Srinagar
Great Move
It is really a great move done by the institution. They have done a great job in making people aware about the plight of needy people and encouraged people to help them. We pray for the prosperity of this institution. Firdous Hassan, Journalist, English Kashmir Monitor, Srinagar

We should work together I would just like to say very briefly that we should all work towards the welfare and rehabilitation of widows, orphans and destitute. MERC can do a lot in this regard by becoming voice of this voiceless section of society . Malik Zahra Khalid, Lecturer MERC, Kashmir University
We are with you
John Milton’s dictum “Those also serve who also stand and wait” is no way going to help those unfortunate children of our Kashmir. The last 20 years of agony, sorrow, loss and pain has snatched their smiles. Your organization is doing a wonderful job to help bring back this smile. We at Kashmir university are with you for this great cause. Allah bless you, Allah bless your foundation. Showkat Shafi, Spokesperson-(PRO) , Kashmir University
Thank You JKYF I thank you for taking care of my brothers and sisters. I feel highly indebted. May Allah reward you as He is the best to reward. Raashid Maqbool, Lecturer MERC, Kashmir University
JKYF on right path
I found the role of J&K Yateem Foundation towards social concerns, issues, problems and solutions very excellent. They are very clear in basic perceptions and very gentle in help to the needy fellows without any human errors. I am sure that in future years this institution under the umbrella of dynamic, capable, sincere and potential people with high amount of mission & vision will surpass the excellence and contribution for supporting the cause of orphans, widows and destitute. May Allah prosper this institution with its laid down mission & objective...Aameen. (Dr) Prof. S. Mufeed Ahmad Head, MERC and Prof Business School, University of Kashmir
Make Orphans Performing Assets
Masha- Allah J&K Yateem Foundation is doing an Excellent Job. A Service to Orphans ,Widows and Destitute which will be richly rewarded . May Allah (SWT) accept their efforts. I Suggest : Setting up of Research and Development Centre. • To place exact facts regarding number of Orphans • To work out A to Z solutions for Orphans & Widows • To make Orphans Performing Assets to the world. Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, CEO, Al- Shifa Hospital Bengaluru , Karnataka
Well Done Bait-ul-Hilal
I have seen the good facilities which what the hostel provides to the residents . Apart from academic activities, moral and religious education is also imparted, which is excellent. “ May God (SWT) help the organization to continue this service” Manzoor-ul-Hassan, Research Scholar, Srinagar
All the best
It was really good to interact with children and see the infrastructure developed in the orphanage (Bait-ul-Hilal). All the best for all future endeavours. Saba Ahmad, Child Line India Foundation, New Delhi
Orphanage is not a solution
The orphans are receiving good facilities here but I think it is not the solution. If an orphan has mother he/she should be with his/ her mother. Once the orphan comes out of the orphanage he/she might face problems at his/her home. Salma Shabir, R/O. Baghat Barzulla
