FA2 IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO INSTALL A SILL SEAL GASKETING SYSTEM BETWEEN THE BOTTOM PLATE AND THE CONCRETE SLAB/FOUNDATION. THIS GASKETING SYSTEM SHOULD BE INSTALLED DURING FRAMING STAGES AND THE CORRUGATED SIDE OF THE GASKET SHALL BE INSTALLED TOUCHING THE CONCRETE SLAB AFTER WHICH THE WALL PLATE SHALL BE PLACED OVER TOP OF THE GASKET AND ATTACHED TO THE CONCRETE SLAB.

AIR INFILTRATION IS MINIMIZED BY CAULKING AND SEALING THE ENVELOPE, USUALLY PERFORMED BY THE INSULATION CONTRACTOR. A HOME THAT IS NOT SEALED FOR AIR INFILTRATION WILL BE UNCOMFORTABLE DUE TO DRAFTS AND CAN USE APPROXIMATELY 30% OR MORE ENERGY THAN A RELATIVELY AIRTIGHT HOME. CONTROLLING AIR INFILTRATION IS ONE OF THE MOST COST-EFFECTIVE ENERGY-EFFICIENCY MEASURES IN MODERN CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES. IN ADDITION, GOOD CAULKING AND SEALING WILL REDUCE DUST AND POLLUTANTS THAT CAN ENTER HOMES THROUGH CRACKS AND HOLES.
