The essence of usability testing is to monitor the actions of users during their interaction with the interactive system in the performance of real tasks. Usability testing helps to know whether the system is working or not, whether it decides the goals of projecting, whether it is sufficiently productive, and, at the simplest level, can users perform their tasks in principle.

In a qualitative usability testing the emphasis is on getting information about what in the interface is done poorly and how to fix it. In this case only the percentage of completely correct assignments made by the respondent is measured. For example, if you run a fundamentally new web service, you must make sure whether users understand its essence, whether they can take advantage of planned functionality, whether they use the site as intended, that means to spend quality usability testing of site. Comparative usability testing is done in order to obtain accurate figures on the work of different interfaces (for example, two versions of a site or a comparison of their site with competitors’ sites). During this testing key indicators of site usability is usually measured – the speed of the user, the number of software bugs, learning skills to work with the system, the subjective satisfaction of users.

Typically, usability testing involves the following steps: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Our experts study the interface, typical questions in product support, customer concerns and offer a list of hypotheses that need to be verified through testing. We prepare the test script so that to test produced hypothesis and measure interesting features of the interface (speed, amount of human errors, subjective satisfaction, speed of learning skills, the degree of persistence of these skills). Determine the target audience of the product and find suitable respondents. In our office or workplace of the respondents we hold the required number of testing sessions, recording a video image from the screen, action and face of the respondent. During testing, the respondent performs the tasks, the tester captures emerging issues, problems and errors.

The result of usability testing is the report of bugs of the interface, which was found, ranked by importance, as well as ways of solving problems. The video recording of testing is attached to report.
