The Iris Awards is the NZIPP, New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography’s premier event of the year. I really enjoy entering and it’s very gratifying to be announced a winner. People say “you must be happy” and yes I am but it’s more a sense of conviction that I am in the right place at the right time. That I am blessed to be in living in Queenstown with Mike and am able to express myself through my photography. Photographers may enter up to ten images, with a maximum of four images in any one category. At the end of each session the three highest scoring photographers images in each category are brought before a panel of five judges to select the category winner. To be eligible to win the coveted ‘Photographer of the Year’ , the honours committee select five of the top judges who have no connection with the finalists to judge the collection of six top scoring images from three photographers. These photographers are called the finalists. Over discussion and debate (behind closed doors) the selection is made. This year Richard Wood was the winner. Points are accumulated with each award print; three points for Gold, two for silver and one for bronze. These points goes towards our honours of Master photographer and Fellow photographer and finally Grand Master. So I guess that is my goal to become a Grand master in New Zealand and Australia. This year I won two Gold, seven silver and one bronze award. See all the award winners at this link at the nzipp.org.nz site
