A ROOM FOR GOOD

Regina and Robin Reaves are the designers behind R&R. A while back, the duo competed in a Charlotte design competition called Furnished to raise $17,000 for the Furnish for Good Charity.

Each of the participating designers was given the same vignettes to transform and all items were donated by local businesses.

This winning, bold design by R&R is entitled “Gucci Gardenia,” and was inspired by Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s Gucci Garden exhibition in Florence, Italy.

It also incorporated some of R&R co-founder Robin Reaves’ hand-painted artwork. The space pops with lots of texture, patterns, and playful choices. From the hot pink accent wall to the statement lighting, this room is a winner in more ways than one.

Moore County is the perfect place to spend your spring season, offering endless outdoor opportunities and stunning landscapes. The Sandhills is known for its golf courses but there are plenty of other reasons to choose to visit this area, and one of our favorites is the outdoor activities and beautiful natural opportunities. There is a wide variety of parks, nature walks, beautiful pine forests, lake trails, and so much more to explore! In honor of 2023 — the Year of the Trail in North Carolina — Moore County has come up with a novel and artistic way to get residents and visitors outside. The initiative is called Pinecone Pathways.

Pinecone Pathways Program

The Pinecone Pathways Program launched on March 20, 2023, by the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB). The project aims to activate a network of multi-use paths and trails throughout the Sandhills and encourage residents and visitors to get outside and into nature.

Until the end of May, Pinecone Pathways is running a unique nature-infused treasure hunt like no other. As you take a scenic stroll along the pretty paths, you might be lucky enough to find one of 200 hidden glass pinecones. Created by talented glassmakers from Starworks in Star, NC, the gorgeous glass gems have been carefully hidden along trails throughout Moore County. The glass-blown pinecones are limited edition, so hit the walking trails soon to claim your treasure. If you don't discover a glass pinecone, you are still guaranteed a beautiful day surrounded by nature. So take a peaceful solo walk or grab some friends and family for a hike and a picnic this weekend, and look for those sought-after colorful pinecones before they are all gone. You can also buy art from the non-profit online at their website. There are rules and bigger prizes like accommodation and gift cards if you find a pinecone, so visit their website at: www.homeofgolf.com/pineconepathwaysnc.

The Pinecone Pathways project recently launched to an amazing reception. There’s even an unofficial Facebook group dedicated to finding the unique glass pinecones chock full of tips and info from members.

Another important aspect of the Pinecone Pathways project is its focus on sustainability. The project is designed to minimize environmental impact and preserve the area's natural beauty. In addition, the project will prioritize using local materials and resources wherever possible.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Pinecone Pathways program is its potential to boost the local economy. By providing more opportunities for outdoor recreation, the project can attract more visitors to the area and support local businesses.

The Pinecone Pathways project is an exciting initiative that has already transformed Pinehurst and the surrounding area. By activating a network of multi-use paths and trails, the project will provide new opportunities for outdoor recreation, promote sustainability, boost the local economy, and improve the quality of life for residents. As the project progresses, it will be exciting to see how it evolves and impacts the community. Happy pinecone hunting!

The highest concentration can be seen in downtown Carthage, where five murals reflecting local history, culture and lifestyle grace Courthouse Square alone.
