On the way to reach "sustainable" Prologue Even though we people are kept engaged in bustling cities, I ’ ve always held firmly that we can live well under the azure sky, where fine lawns, blooming flowers and freely chats between friends are all assured. I deem that this ideal prospect is exactly what landscape design indicates: lush, vibrant, sustainable and possible for us to enjoy life.
Phase 1 landsacpe design learning and practicing Before entering college, I thought that landscape design is only to beautify people ’ s living environment. However, after learning this major, it makes me realize that landscape design can do much more than that. Due to the fact that the system and structure of landscape design are rather complex, I believe that it can also be considered as a spirit, and an understanding towards the environment, the culture and the society as a whole. As a matter of fact, we need constant trying and practicing.

Work 1:Preliminary recognition of landscape design. Work 2:Further understandings of landscape designs with particular features. Work 3:Practice of small-scale design project.
Phase 3 to be continued in urban design
Work 4:The importance of a green sustainable landscape for the modern urban landscape. Work 5:The use of environment-friendly landscape design in practice.
Work 6:Learn the application of modern landscape design in public urban green spaces. Urban public green space design, the most common part in landscape design, has always been a part of my favorite. Modern cities, unfortunately, have a huge number of “illnesses”, especially in China, such as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, etc. As is known to all, haze is a problem that troubles most Chinese cities. With the help of the knowledge and design of my own learning, I always wish to retain more livable green places for cities, while allowing these green spaces to integrate into local cities, to combine with the local urban culture and everyday life, so that our landscape design can be considered as “approachable” in addressing people’s demand for public green places.

Phase 2 green landscape design learning and practicing
The landscape, as an indispensable part of a modern city, is now playing an increasingly significant role in modern society. In the rapid development of urban life, people have higher requirements in terms of their own living environment. Therefore, green design, together with the sustainable development of design have become an important issue. How can we utilize artificial designs to create more natural public urban green spaces? In regard to Chinese classical gardens, a saying goes like this, “It is the people who did all the work, but somehow it looks like a God ’ s masterpiece. ” This puts forward much higher requirements for landscape design learners.

Map of Hangzhou
Hangzhou East Railway Station West Plaza is located at the heart of the East New Metro area. Its land use planning scope: east to Xianing Road, west to the East Railway Station buildings, down south to Zhaojia Alley, up north to Tiancheng Road and Xinjing Road. The East and West Plazas boast an overall greening spaces area of approximately 7.12 hectares, of which the East Plaza phase II covers about 4.8 hectares (including 10,000 square meters of the above-ground buildings). General layout
In planning and architecture design of Hangzhou East Railway Station, the concept of “tides of the Qiantang River”, “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains”, and “waves upon waves” can obviously be seen. In this landscape design, we continue to apply and sublimate the aforementioned concepts, and to vividly present tides of the Qiantang River, water of the West Lake, Fuchun Mountains, views of West Rivers, and other most representative features of Hangzhou in ingenious form of splashed-ink landscape. This miniature ink-painting picture scroll demonstrates unique local cultural landscapes and visual sensory experience to all the first-time visitors here in Hangzhou, either the magnificent views of tides and waves in Qiantang River or the marvelous beauty of theWest Lake.

The lighting channel well of the departure square, also named as “mid-lake”, is designed as an inkstand in traditional Chinese ink painting. Specifically, a pool is equal to a horizontal stand, mirrors reflecting water as vertical walls, which are formed by curved glass panels. The mountain streams landscape with the waterfall of rapid currents is quite idyllic. This whole area serves as a cultural icon containing profound meanings, and definitely will be a portal of Hangzhou.

Landscape freehand sketching 景观手绘
Another very significant practice in landscape freehand sketching is the precise expressions of renderings. Renderings is a kind of drawing that visually demonstrate the design effect. I’ve spent a long period of time practicing renderings, in the hope to strengthen my expressing skills. My rendering practice work can be seen as follows.
During the process of learning landscape freehand sketching, continuous sketches practices are quite needed in order to permit the quality of my design work, and accurate perspective as well. While practicing, the whole process can be rather boring, but it can be of great help in later learning.
Fast design In college, apart from guiding our computer-aided design to enhance learning, our teacher also requires us to draw some practical design drafts. Here are some of my landscape fast design project during college. I deem that freehand fast design can be a quick and accurate record of present design inspiration. Therefore, at my after-class time, I also actively practice fast design skills. In my future designs, I hope I can be quicker and more accurate in expressing my design intention.

hard and improve oneself, but also to determine the direction and seek goals. I am now a person with clear goals in mind. I love landscape and landscape design, and determine to become an outstanding landscape designer. Sustainable development is meant to be the eternal theme of the world ’ s future development, and future designers should perfectly combine their designing work with the concept of sustainable development. With the knowledge of college alone, it is quite difficult for me to meet the requirements of future landscape design. I desperately want to pursue further study in an university of higher level in order to expand my horizons, and ultimately use my knowledge and unremitting efforts to add a beautiful touch of color in the process of social sustainable development and human civilization. I also hope that my own designs can allow us to live, work, study in a better environment. I ’ ve always believed that landscaping is designed for the goal of better serving the public and improving the living quality of the society as a whole. I also believe that a better environment can allow us to better study and work. Along the road of learning landscape design, I will spare no pains as always, and also wish to learning a great more in following scholars and tutors in this domain.
