CURRICULUM VITAE
QiYang How
My name is How Qi Yang and I am an architecture student at School of Design, Nanyang Polytechnic. My hobby since young is sketching and thus I chose to architecture in the poly.I find great interest in the architecture design field since starting polytechnic learning modules on design ,construction and sustainability. While studying in the polytechnic,I like the exposure to different types of projects and assignments in my course. These helped me to dive into design thinking, understanding the planning and building process.I am comfortable doing sketches,Autocad drawings, model making, using BIM and other modelling software to do my projects.I able to work in a team, having collaboration with classmates and consulting my lecturers to complete my project assignments. From the URA Cube competition,I have learned that a good design scheme comes from many ideas to consider and collaborate to make a project a success.

Year 1: Magic at Little India The studio project assignment was to study Little india and developed a concept design for the villager. My “villager” was a user who worked and lived in little india.I studied the “Tailor” and from study,I develop a design to house his home, store and shop. The project goal was about learning to appreciate context and the user when developing a design. Year 2: Biomimicry This studio project was to learn the wisdom of nature and developed a concept design.Choose a ”Genius/Guru” to exploration the possibilities of creating spaces, structures and functions/ programs that are informed by the natural order and dynamics of plants and animals in their living context.Environment science and pollution centre was inspired by the wisdom of firefly. It research on the environment condition and present the data through the filtered light indicator. It light up in different colour according to the pollution level.
COMPETITION:
URA CUBE COMPETITION 2019 Part of the team : URA CUBE COMPETITION 2019 @ Payar Lebar Air Base The vision of this project is Hovering Metropolis. It inspired from site’s aviation history, the “Drone city” and offered a hovering experience with the provision of viewing platform at the top of each residential buildings

PHOTINUS BRIMLEYI FLY RAPIDLY IN STRAIGHT OR LOOSELY MEANDERING PATHS AT A CONSTANT HEIGHT. WHILE FLYING FORWARD, THEY BEGIN TO FLASH, AND THEN DURING LIGHT EMISSION, THEY STOP SUDDENLY AND HOVER FOR A MOMENT BEFORE EXTINGUISHING THEIR LIGHT AND RUSHING FORWARD AGAIN. THIS CREATES THE APPEARANCE OF A JAGGED FLIGHT PATH.

MALES ALTERNATE BETWEEN FLYING STRAIGHT AND FLYING IN A LATERAL ARCH OR IN A SIDEWAYS LOOP (AS THOUGH DODGING AN OBSTACLE). THEY FLASH DURING EACH LATERAL DEVIATION FROM THEIR STRAIGHT PATH FOR ABOUT 0.4 SECONDS PER FLASH.
THE FLIGHT PATH FOR P. MARGINELLUS ENTAILS HOPPING UP AND DOWN LOW IN THE BRUSH, WITH A SHORT, 0.5-SECOND FLASH AT THE END OF EACH “HOP.” FLASHES ARE ABOUT 3 SECONDS APART.
THE FLIGHT PATH OF P. PYRALIS IS VERTICALLY LOOPING, WITH A SINGLE LONG FLASH ON THE FORWARD AND UPWARD PORTION OF EACH LOOP, RESULTING IN A “J” PATTERN.

12 “ZERO NET ENERGY” LRC BUILDING
The Design Concept behind the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is for the building to be “zero net energy”. It integrates the natural surroundings and physical environment. The energy consumption of the building would rely on heat and solar power. The water consumption would also rely on the rainwater collected and recycled in the LRC building. The building also integrates shading devices and natural ventilation devices to minimise energy usage in cooling and ventilating the building, while at the same time provide ample sunlight, minimising electrical lighting usage. Some of the strategies we will be using to integrate into a “net zero energy” building will include: Wind turbines and solar panel for energy Rainwater harvesting system for collecting water Stack ventilation and louvres for ventilation Light shelves and curtain walls will provide sunlight.
