Studies show that class attendance is one of the most important factors when it comes to academic success. QLA Leadership Matters
Philosophy of the Leadership Program: QLA is positioned to increase its commitment to leadership education (OEE – Outdoor Experiential Education). It will be an integrated and holistic approach, involving the entire school. It complements the original vision of the institution: “Qatar Leadership Academy will promote personal growth in young men by engaging them in an environment that promotes excellence in Academics, Leadership, Athletics and Character to prepare the Leaders of tomorrow.” A growing body of research identifies outdoor and environmental

education as providing effective programming strategies for improving student achievement in both science and other content areas. When choosing best-practices or evidence-based reform practices to implement, OEE programs should be considered (Athman & Monroe, 2004). Leadership has been developing in many ways at Qatar Leadership Academy throughout the second term. The Student Council Executive has been busy establishing a fully functioning student council with elected class representatives. They have also provided their services by filling essential roles at the QLA Athletics Day. The entire school participated in an Intensive Week during the last week of February. Students were able to take part in outdoor experiential activities such as kayaking, navigation, rock climbing, horse and camel riding, fishing, archery, as well as hiking and field cooking. Students also participated in leadership tasks and activities. / providing them with the essential skills to become effective leaders in their companies, school, families and society.

They will have to fit the clock mechanism to complete the project and evaluate their design work and product. They have completed the full Design Process which will help them in term 3 and higher grades. Grade 11-12 Resistant Material and Product Design are making models and running their designs through the machine mostly independently, each model is assessed and improved if needed. Each cadet will have a wooden and plastic lamp, they will be given the opportunity to engrave patterns on the outside once they know their basic lamp fits together. They will have also run

with the help of all the teachers and students. It was really a fun activity and we all enjoyed this. All the teachers and student-participants wore Pi day t-shirts specially designed for this day. After that, we had Math jeopardy for grades 7 to 10 where all the students participated enthusiastically and were very competitive to grab the 1st place. The students took initiative to decorate the school for the occasion. Pi Day activities were meant to enrich and deepen students' understanding of the concept of Pi and Math at large. Math Department hopes to make this day even bigger and better next year.
The Writing Center is a comfortable equipped area with a scheduling desk and six stations. To use our services we encourage teachers and students to make appointments by Emailing Mrs. Walker twalker@qf.org.qa or you can take your chance and see if there is an opening available by stopping by the scheduling desk. We will be opened from Sunday through Wednesday. Tutoring hours each week are from 3:15 to 4:15 Sunday through Wednesday. Come in and have a chat about what you are writing. So…if you have a paper that could use some extra eyes make an appointment in the Writing Center.
