The key to ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggle and helmet. Our helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating “gaper gap” and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac and the goggle venting systems.

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. Smith’s AirEvac ventilation systems generate maximum airflow and pull warm, fog-causing air out of the goggle. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet’s AirEvac system.

AirEvac 2 continues to drive the warm air away from the goggle through external vents and internal channels in the EPS liner. Internal airflow can be adjusted through the helmet’s Regulator climate control system.

Using a self-locating mechanism on the goggle strap-end, the magnetic design conveniently assists the user in locating the connection point.

Once the strap-end is located in proximity to the helmet port, the magnet will draw the part in. A mechanical lock on the helmet port then provides full security while worn.

The strap is attached in place and you’re ready to ride.

The strap can be easily released by simply sliding the strap-end back and out.

The most common goggle problem is fogging which happens when the inner lens surface cools below the dew point. Humidity inside the goggle doesn’t help—the more humid the air, the more potential for fog. Smith goggles use a combination of technological advancements to help prevent lens fogging. Varying levels of goggle ventilation are available within the Smith line. While all of our goggles employ frame ventilation using a breathable foam membrane, we also utilize patented fog prevention technologies to actively promote the circulation of air throughout the goggle.

VAPORATOR LENS TECHNOLOGY WITH POREX™ FILTER Patented Vaporator lens technology leads the industry in thermal lens barriers. Utilizing processes previously reserved for aerospace and medical capacities, our lenses are robotically cut and bonded together with an airtight silicone bead to eliminate lens delamination the number one cause of between-the-lens fogging.

POREX

A revolutionary, micro-porous filter called Porex™ completes the system. Its composition is structured such that air molecules may pass through the filter while water molecules cannot. By utilizing this filter, the thermal lens is allowed to adjust to varying altitudes while preventing moisture from entering the space between the lenses. This is the world’s strongest thermal lens barrier.

Patented micro-electronic fan in the Turbo Fan Series. Turn the fan on when you get to the hill and in the low setting, the Turbo Fan system will run continuously all day long to exhaust moisture from inside the goggle. The high setting can be used to quickly exhaust moisture in extreme conditions. On the low setting the Turbo Fan system can run continuously for up to 50 hours on one AAA battery.

Patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system in the Spherical and Regulator Series provides added control of airflow through the goggle. Use the open position while stopped in line or on the lift to increase the circulation of dry, fresh air. Close it before descending to prevent tearing.

Featured in our Airflow and select Junior Series models, our Airflow lens technology features vents in the brow of the lens that increase the circulation of fresh air to keep the inner lens dry and fog-free. A semi-porous foam filter is positioned behind the vents to prevent snow and moisture from infiltrating the goggle chamber.

THERMAL LENS

FOG-X LENS TREATMENT

Two single lenses bonded together with a sealed “dead air” space between them create a thermal barrier that keeps the inner lens warm and dry. Like storm windows—but much more comfortable— this process helps prevent fogging by keeping the inner lens above the dew point.

A hydrophilic chemical treatment creates a micro-etched surface on the inner lens to absorb moisture before fog can form. Because Fog-X is a treatment that is actually burned into the lens, it can’t be wiped away like other anti-fog coatings.

FOLLOWING A FEW OF THESE SIMPLE GUIDELINES WILL ENSURE A COMFORTABLE, FOG-FREE DAY ON THE SLOPES. DO: MAKE SURE YOUR NEW GOGGLES FORM A TIGHT SEAL ON YOUR FACE. Take the time to try on different models to find the most comfortable pair that forms a complete seal against your face.

DON’T: WEARING YOUR GOGGLES ON YOUR FOREHEAD WILL CAUSE THEM TO FOG. Your head is like the smokestack of a steam train. 30% of your body’s heat leaves through the top of the head. Placing your goggles on your forehead will trap this moisture, causing your goggles to fog.

JUNIOR SERIES

DO: TRY GOGGLES ON AS IF YOU WERE ON THE HILL. Bring your helmet and/or hat with you when you try on new goggles. You’ll want to make sure your goggles will fit properly with what you actually wear.

DO: PROPER STORAGE OF YOUR GOGGLES IS CRITICAL. Make sure to store them in a dry, warm, well-ventilated area so they are sufficiently dried out after each use. Adequately drying your goggles will greatly help to prevent fogging the following day.

DON’T: WIPING GOGGLES WITH EXCESS SNOW IN THEM WILL INCREASE FOGGING. Smearing the snow and ice from your last wipe-out around inside your lens will only result in increased fogging and more frustration. If your goggles become filled with snow, knock out the majority of the snow. Then use a Smith Snow Eraser or soft cloth to mop out the majority of the moisture. Ideally, you’ll want to find a restroom automatic hand dryer to fully dry the inner and outer lenses.

AirEvac uses a system of helmet shell vents to actively pull warm, moist air out of the user’s goggles and exhaust it out of the helmet shell to prevent fogging.

AirEvac 2 is the ultimate in goggle-helmet integration. This technology connects helmet shell vents and internal EPS channels to increase airflow and evacuate warm, moist air to prevent goggle fogging. HELMET FIT SYSTEM (HFS)

Smith partnered with Boa® Technology, the world’s leader in closure systems, to create the new Boa® Fit System. This proprietary fit system takes the proven fit of Smith’s ergonomic head form to the next level, offering an intuitive, dial system for on-the-fly, single-handed micro-adjustment. Building on the self-centering feature of the Smith HFS, the Boa® Fit System offers an additional feature of vertical adjustment. Together, Smith and Boa® offer this truly premier system for dialed-in helmet fit and adjustability.

Great helmets start with a great fit. Smith’s proven ergonomic head form combined with our Helmet Fit System (HFS) provides exceptional performance and comfort. The soft, flexible plate and liner system contact the back of the head when the HFS is tightened for a proper fit. The self-centering system utilizes an intuitive pinch/pull design with 3 attachment points for easy operation to ensure a correct fit and maximum comfort.
