Hayman Island, Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef‘s breathtaking patchwork of coral reefs and marine life is like nowhere else on earth. Sir David Attenborough described it as one of the world’s greatest and most splendid natural treasures. The reef is home to 3000 individual reef systems and 9000 species of marine life over a massive 344,400km2.
Longer than the Great Wall of China, it is the only coral reef visible from space. Hundreds of islands and coral cays, including Hayman and its island neighbours, are part of the Reef’s kaleidoscopic portfolio.

Hayman Island Resort helps support the environmental and economic infrastructure of the area as well as operationally preserving the area’s precious natural surroundings. They recognise their role in helping protect the Reef as proud supporters of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, which aims to ensure its survival for future generations.
Essentially the island is a minicity with its main water supply, sewage treatment and infrastructure systems, all having been upgraded to modern efficiency and standards in terms of sustainability and resilience.
Magnificent and irreplaceable, the Great Barrier Reef is not only known as one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’, but as an essential part of the world ecosystem.
