Luigi is a typical young professional who divides his time between working hard to achieve his goals in network marketing and living the good twenty-something life. his Florida experience was an unparalleled one. The beckoning serenity of the resort location cannot be over-emphasized.

very now and then we hear stories of the rise of great leaders and how, through their great leadership, they inspire others to pursue their dreams. They learn from daily challenges and refuse to let life’s troubles bring them down. They know how to accept help when they need it and they always have a positive word to say no matter what the situation. We had the privilege to speak with one such leader, Hendri Faizal from Indonesia. He’s had ups and downs, good times and bad, but none of those things stopped him from taking a stand as a leader and taking his team higher. Tell us about yourself at this very moment in your life and what you love about it the most? I currently live in Central Lampung, Indonesia with my wife and children. Every morning I wake up nowadays, I feel indescribable happiness and I cannot help but thank Allah for the fortune he has blessed me with through QNET. As a top leader, what do you think is your greatest responsibility to your team? My greatest responsibility is making sure that they are successful and in order to do that, I should be a role model they can follow and be proud of. Who or what is your inspiration to push yourself to achieve? My greatest inspiration to achieve my goals is my family – my wife and my children. They are my everyday motivation. We hear you have a fascinating story about how you pushed yourself to succeed in QNET, tell us about it. When I first heard about QNET, I gave the decision to join the business a lot of thought. I could not afford it at that time. But then I thought to myself, if I did not dare to do something now, my life would never change and I was so tired of being poor. So, I took it upon myself to find ways to join QNET. One day I made it, I joined and I was happy I was doing something to change my life. But things took a terrible turn… Not before long, most of my uplines began to disappear. I started losing my grip, I had no one to help me or guide me. They just died out and I was losing hope. But deep within me I refused to give up. It was then that I began my search for leadership, my search for my higher uplines. I did not let myself tire and at the end of my search, I met uplines who were far, far above me in the tree – M. Ustadi and Hermansyah Zidan. They welcomed me and taught me a lot. With my persistence and the hard work of these two uplines, I was later introduced to the top leader for the Sumatra area, Kristian Alimafa. With the three of them as my mentors, my business rapidly grew three years after I joined QNET.

You faced some legal issues that came your way in the beginning, do you want to share something about it and how you overcame it? Well yes, I did face some legal issues during my early years with QNET when I had not begun making any money yet. It all began when a caterer who used to serve at our business meetings created some trouble and that overflowed to people who did not fully understand the QNET business. I was so distressed and confused by the whole thing especially because I knew I did nothing wrong. That is when I found out that my top uplines, who I mentioned earlier, were ever willing to help me deal with this issue. Not only did they help me financially but also psychologically and they helped me without even knowing me personally. It was then that I realised that business with QNET is not just about money, there is a strong brotherhood, a strong bond of faith amongst the network. This incident further opened my eyes and strengthened my belief in QNET, it made me believe I was in the right place with the right people.


Are there any recurring challenges you face when working on the ground and what do you do to address it? Oh yes, plenty! (laughs) Especially because, even today, so many people just do not understand how direct selling works. But if you don’t want it to trouble you, you need to first be convinced yourself. You need to also focus on your goals, show commitment and loyalty and always remember to guard the integrity of the company and yourself. That’s what I do to prove to society that this business is not just real and legitimate but also wonderful.

Q1. Now that you are a female pioneer in the male-dominated Achiever’s Club, will you be consciously looking to build more women to follow in your footsteps? ADD: I have consciously invested time in building the women in my team. We women are natural networkers. We are mothers to our own network; warm yet stern with the sole purpose of bringing up wonderful children. In general, we are good at

That’s a long time when you are young and in a hurry to get to the top. Have there been moments when you wanted to give up? ADD: This business requires great patience and perseverance. I have wanted to quit several times, especially in my first year when my family wasn’t supportive and I was constantly facing rejections. I didn’t believe in my ability to make it as an entrepreneur. I was being forced out of my comfort zone all the time. But each time I came close


to giving up, my uplines and mentors stepped in and wouldn’t let me quit. They were my lifeline. They taught me that it was important to live each day with the belief that the next day would bring something better. I remember in the early days I met AVP Padma, who wrote me this message in a book -

in yourself and “theBelieve world will believe in you!” I lived by that philosophy each time I experienced a low phase.

Q3. Your husband is also very active in the business and in fact served along side you at V Indonesia 2012. It is clear when one sees the two of you together that he is one of your biggest fans. How much of your success do you attribute to him? ADD: I attribute a large part of my success to him. We met because of QNET and have been happily married for 3 years. QNET will always be our first love and building this business together is like bringing up our own child. He has been very supportive of my erratic life as a networker. Interestingly, in this business, I am actually senior to him. I am lucky in that he respects my broader experience and admires me for it. Yet, he is also one of my biggest critics and that keeps me balanced. We constantly discuss how we can better ourselves as networkers… even during our romantic dinners and exotic vacations! Together, we are passionately working towards a common dream. It’s not about his success or my success anymore; it’s always about

book launch event in Mumbai and Chief’s Rule 3 Event in India. Today, whether it’s a Solitaire Event, an NSS or VCon, it’s a family event for us with my entire family, including cousins playing an active role. They are all building the business with me and my mom is one of my strongest pillars of strength. As a wife and daughter-in-law who runs a home, I manage my commitments well by planning and communicating. Networking is not just a business, it’s a lifestyle so, keep your family involved! That’s the key.

Q5. What is the one important thing that you have discovered about yourself in these 7 years with QNET? ADD: I have discovered that nothing is impossible in life if you are continuously working on yourself. In the last 7 years, that’s all I have been doing. Working on my relationships, my attitude, my team playing capabilities, my clarity of vision, and my belief system. In the process I have developed a better understanding of the concept of service above self. The financial gain has only been a by-product. Today, I am an upgraded version of myself physically, mentally, financially and spiritually. Life with QNET is about the journey and not the destination anymore!

Q6. What is the one QNET product you cannot live without and why? ADD: I simply can’t do without Physio Radiance. Networking involves a hectic lifestyle and constant travel is an inherent part of it. Q7. Since this is a lifestyle issue, the one thing we would like to know about you - What is your personal style?

Q4. One of the challenges many of the women in this business face is lack of family support or pressures of family commitments that prevent them from focusing properly on networking. What is your advice for them?

ADD: My personal style is crisp yet comfortable clothing, I prefer to leave my hair loose, a good pair of sunglasses, my favourite LV bag, neat tan shoes and my Oyster Perpetual Datejust - Rolex!

ADD: I started networking as a single, 19 year old girl. My parents were not happy with my decision to take up network marketing as a profession. I had excellent academic credentials and bright prospects in the corporate world and they felt I was wasting my potential in an industry that has not yet been truly accepted by society. Despite their objections, I went ahead, but made sure to consciously involve them in everything I was doing. I would discuss all my activities, trainings, my progress, goals and vision with them. I introduced them to my uplines and my team so that they could see that I was working with the right people. I even took my mom to VP Donna Imson’s I’m Alive! training, Dato’ Vijay’s

And yes, I can’t walk around without my SMILE!


An Interview with Ahmed How did you come across QNET all the way across the world in Sudan?

i

was an engineering student in Sudan University back in 2001 when a fellow student first spoke to me about a Network Marketing company. Unfortunately, the way he explained it to me led me to believe that this business was Haram, and against Islam. He was not able to answer any of my questions properly and made it sound like a get rich quick scheme. I didn’t know it at that time, but he was talking about GoldQuest. I was immediately wary and in fact started warning other students in the University about this haram business! Then, when I was in 4th year of University, with one more year to graduate, I started thinking about the future. I knew that I did not want to work in a job for someone else. With my father’s help I tried an automobile spare parts business, but the time and effort were not commensurate with the earnings, so I closed that . Then I got together with another university friend (who is today VC Shaadi) and we started selling CDs copied with movies, music and software programs to students in various universities in Khartoum. One day, when I was visiting another University to sell CDs, an old friend spotted me and came running to talk to me. The first thing he asked me – Have you heard of GoldQuest? When he started explaining the business, I immediately realized what he was talking about, but because he was an old friend, I decided to hear him out. This time though, the explanation was very professional and detailed and he was able to answer all my questions. The he said, let’s do a projection and I was taken aback. Projection? He said, it’s a business, so we should do a projection. That’s when I started paying attention.

So did you sign up immediately? My friend then invited to me to attend a Business Presentation a few days later to learn more. I didn’t tell anyone about this encounter because I wanted to find out more first. The day of the BP, Shaadi asked me where I was going and I told him I had to meet someone about a computer hardware business. I show up at the hotel and suddenly in walks Shaadi! Someone else had brought him there for the same presentation. VC Osama was making a presentation and talking about the business. He had been an engineer with Petronas for 20 years. Being an engineering student, that was a big thing for me, because Petronas was a dream company for an engineer in Sudan. If he was doing this business, surely there was something to it and I started considering it seriously. After having a chat with Osama, both Shaadi and I decided to sign up. But we didn’t have the money at that time. We diligently saved up from our CD business and 6 weeks later, had enough to buy the products.

How easy or difficult was it from that point on? Before I signed up, I told VC Osama that the one thing that I absolutely could not do was public speaking. All my life I had been very, very shy. Even in my family, I had been the quietest person. When I saw what Osama and some of the other leaders had to do, by going up on stage or even approaching people they didn’t know, I was terrified. I knew I could not do it. I told Osama that I will bring 4 of my friends who can talk well and let him explain the business to them. He agreed to help me.


I was barely 21 at the time. I remember one of the older leaders asked Osama, “Are you sure this young boy can do this? His father won’t come after us and ask what we have done with him!” Both Shaadi and I signed up together. The first thing I did was to call my mother and tell her I was starting a business and needed her to also invest with me and to also call our other relatives to our home so that I could involve them as well. By the end of my first day, I had signed up 12 people!

You make it sound easy! Were there no challenges? Ironically, the four guys that I had in mind, rejected the business! I had hoped that these guys would do all the talking for me and now they didn’t want it. I was dejected. Now I would be forced to do all the talking myself and I was not confident I could do it. One day in the university, when I was talking to one of the prospects on the phone, this friend who was walking by, stopped and started listening to my conversation. After my phone call, he wanted to know what it was about. I knew this guy to be a very relaxed kind of guy and didn’t want to tell him about the business. I didn’t think he was cut out for it. But he insisted on hearing the presentation and in a few minutes he said he would sign up. I couldn’t believe it. I had to ask him again and again if he was serious! This guy is today AVP Motaz Yemani! That gave me confidence. In the first month, Shaadi, Motaz and I managed to convince 37 people to purchase the products. In two and a half months, I made $2400 in commissions! I was a student with a daily allowance of $2 and now I was making all this money. It was crazy.

What can you describe as a defining moment in your QNET journey? In the final year of University, when our exams came up, I had to stop doing the business, and so did my downlines, because they were also students in the university. This resulted in our cheques also eventually stopping. Around this time, we went for a presentation by VP Adly Hassan. He was living in Dubai those days and was known to be very successful in the network marketing business. At this presentation, one guy remarked - These guys are not making any cheques. I told him we were students and had to stop due to exams and would resume once we finished with the exams. Adly overheard this conversation and immediately came over to interrupt us. He said,

can your cheques simply stop like “that?How This business is not about simply

signing people up. It is about teaching people how to do the business and duplicating yourself so that they can go out there and do what you are doing.

That’s the first time I had heard about this concept of duplication and I realized how powerful it was. It changed my entire outlook. At that time I had 100 downlines, and only 3 knew how to present the business. Adly made me watch the DVD of Chief Pathman’s Eight Building Blocks. I didn’t know who Pathman was and I didn’t speak any English either! So, Adly was translating the entire video line by line into Arabic for me. It completely changed my perspective. Immediately, my focus turned towards training and teaching people the right way to do business, instead of simply signing them up. In fact, for 4 months after that I still had no cheques because I was so focused on trainings. But I was not worried anymore. The concept of duplication had opened my eyes to the idea of passive income and I saw the fruits bearing soon after.

How did Pathfinders as a team come about? In the ‘8 Building Blocks’ video, Pathman explains the importance of having dreams. In Sudan, the concept of dreams is very different. Dreams are something you see in your sleep, but never in your real life. So, this was a major paradigm shift for me. I loved the idea of having a dream list. One of my dreams was to travel the world and Malaysia was on top of my list. So, when VCON was announced in 2003 in Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Adly and Osama encouraged us to go for it. I was excited as it was also my dream to travel by Emirates airlines. I had heard they have big planes and also a TV in every seat! That VCON changed my life. I had never experienced anything like it before. I realized this is what I needed to do with my life. On the closing day, Dato Sri Vijay said – We have to live a life that makes a difference. We have to touch more hearts, touch more souls to encourage them to get freedom, financial freedom.” I will never forget those words because they impacted me deeply. There were 6 of us from Sudan in that VCON. When we told some of the other participants that we were from Sudan, they looked blank and asked us where was Sudan! I was very upset, but it fueled my resolve to put Sudan on the QNET map. The Pot of Gold bonanza had just been announced. Motaz and I had a discussion and decided we need to aim for success in this bonanza so that we can succeed and people will take note of Sudan. Also, at the VCON, we saw a big Malaysian team of networkers calling themselves GenGold. We decided we should also have a team name so that we can unite people and make them work towards a common goal. Someone suggested the name Pathfinders and we loved it. We discussed it with Adly and he encouraged us and also merged his team with ours, giving birth to Pathfinders. As of today, Pathfinders have a presence in 70 countries and we produce weekly sales from 18 markets regularly.


You have been with QNET for a very long time now. Longer than many others who made it to the Diamond rank. You must have some interesting stories to share. In 2004, when Dubai was announced as the venue for VCON, Patfinders were able to register 40 people. Till the last minute, only 10 of them were able to get a UAE visa and 30 of us got rejected. We were young and naïve in many ways. We decided to get on a plane with fake visas, as Emirates didn’t have an online visa verification system those days. Once on board, we destroyed the fake visas. Of course, once we landed in Dubai, we got stopped in immigration. We tried to pretend that we had applied for visas online and they were approved, but we just didn’t have them with us. We were detained in the airport for 4 days. Meanwhile, VCON started and 30 of us were still stuck in the airport while Osama and others tried to find a way to get us into the country. Eventually, Osama found out that if we book rooms with a 5 star hotel, the hotel can process the visa for us. This would cost us $600 a person since rooms had to be booked in the hotel. By this time, for airfare, registration and other expenses related to the trip, we had already spent more than $600 a person and simply could not afford this additional expense. Around this time, someone told Dato Sri Vijay about the 30 Sudanese who were stuck in the airport for 4 days. VCON had ended already. He immediately told Osama – “We will pay. Make the arrangements.” When we heard this in the airport, all 30 of us broke down and cried right there. The company had no obligation to us. Visa arrangement is the individual’s responsibility. We had been foolish enough to try a stunt that had no hope of succeeding. And yet, the company was there to support us. That day we knew we had made the right decision to become a part of this company. In fact, that is the day our bond of loyalty with the company was sealed forever. Five of them from that ‘airport group’ are today V Council Members.

What’s the most important lesson you have learnt in your time with QNET? All my life experiences are only from QNET. I have been doing this since I was 21. I have grown up with the company. The most important lesson I have learnt is that for things to change, I have to change myself. Solutions come from within. The practice of the Sphere of Silence (SoS) has played a very crucial role in my life. When I started practicing SoS in 2009, it was very difficult. But I persevered and completed 18 cycles without missing a day and I truly felt the difference. Now I know I can do anything I put my mind to. I truly believe in the power of SOS.

What is your favourite product and why? The Amezcua Bio Disc is like my family member. We have 6 Bio Discs in our home and every bathroom is fitted with the Amezcua shower shell. We never drink regular water anymore. If someone gives my little ones something to drink, they turn to me and ask – Baba, where is ba-disc?

You spoke about the importance of dream list earlier. What dreams has QNET enabled you to fulfill in your life in these 12 years? When I first started this business, my dreams were small. From being able to pay my university fees on my own to getting the latest mobile phone, laptop and car it grew to being able to take my wife on a two-month honeymoon to Maldives, Dubai and Thailand, indulging in my passion for travel. Right from when I was young, I have loved horses. But owning a horse and maintaining a stable is very expensive. I remember writing in my dream list that one day I will have a stable with 25 horses and I even named each of them! Today, I have a stable with 12 horses. Nothing can beat the feeling of accomplishment I felt when I bought my first horse. Today, I am able to travel in style with my family all over the world. I am living my dreams. But material things aside, what motivates me today is RYTHM. Doing something for other people, helping them achieve their dreams. It excites me to be a part of something so much bigger than all of us. I never bothered to get my certificate from the university. I never had to work for someone else a single day in my life. And yet today I am able to travel around the world and help others change their lives. That’s what QNET has allowed me to do. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

An interview with Emirati Amna Al Shawab 5.What makes you tick? What inspires you? I was inspired by successful people all my life, and I’m truly blessed to be from Dubai, the city that inspires me every single day, and inspired by the rules and leadership of this country who taught us the meaning of dreaming big! I usually refer to H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid’s book, “Flashed of Thought” in my trainings and found a wealth and gems of Hence, I always wanted to be successful, and would love to help more and more people to achieve success, what is truly amazing about this business is that it’s a win-win business and by helping others to win, I win also, this makes me tick and inspires me to have more success stories in my team.

2.What attracted you to the direct selling business?

I definitely would encourage everyone to look seriously into this booming industry, and a great company like QNET. Moreover this industry kind of serves the women very well because of all the benefits that it provides, such as the flexibility of time, and ability to work on this business with family and friends and have fun while learning and earning at the same time, away form the usual stressful environment elsewhere.

The thing that attracted me the most was the really low entry cost, combined with amazing products, company and leadership support as well as the most important factor in any business is the zero risk element, to me this was a dream come true in itself!

4.What words of encouragement can you give to fellow women wanting to take the same path?

What I want to achieve is again help more people achieve their Dreams, like how my Coach helped me to achieve my own. I want to help many people change the way they think about dreams being impossible and to start thinking about the possibilities, especially that we are from the UAE and Dubai, the city of turning Dreams into reality and helping people to think positively about their future paving the way for wonders to happen.

7.What does it take to make your dreams come true? It takes a lot of planning, dedication, learning, hard work, and believing in myself, and that those dreams are my future reality and over coming any challenges that come along the way.

9.What motivates and excites you? I’m always motivated by my dreams; they keep me going because those are the dreams that are very close to my heart. Moreover I’m also excited to see more success stories from my team and seeing them successful keeps me inspired and motivated all the time and encourages me to help build more success stories in the team.

10.How do you handle disappointment and are you ready to push through it anyway? I would not call them disappointment, but rather challenges, to learn from and move on those are the challenges that shape us and help us grow more and pushing through them makes up better, stronger people and its just keeps us growing, and it’s a good test for our will… at the end of the day, like the famous saying goes

“NO PAIN, NO GAIN ” 11.What challenges do you face being a woman entrepreneur? And what are the perks? I believe that the challenges are just in our mind, and they are nothing but an illusion, I also believe that once women have the vision and its clear in their mind, then there is nothing that can stop them from achieving their dreams.

13.If you have one goal to fulfill in life, what would this be? To create more millionaires and successful women entrepreneurs in my team. 14.In terms of helping others or the community, what are you currently doing? We are currently helping the community through creating awareness about the products and how those can help the people in enhancing their general well being and health. 15.What will be your advice to other ladies in your entourage? I would advise all ladies to seek for knowledge and be open to new ideas and look at what is happening in the business sphere around them, as the scope is limitless and they should also believe in themselves and the power of dreams. 16.How would direct selling (MLM) help housewives in your country to increase their income and how it can give them a chance to create their own business? MLM is an amazing, problem solving, business platform, where women can start their own business without going through the usual challenging hurdles that they would face in a traditional business world. This is a platform where the start up cost is relatively low, compared to a traditional business, powered by eCommerce which is one of the most powerful tools in the world today, and combined with the most powerful product range that are designed to enhance people’s lives. Because of all those tools, this business works on flexible working hours which is the main concern for housewives, and I found this as a perfect solution so that women can still achieve their dreams and create a better future for themselves and their families.


An Interview with Dev

f you see a guy in a QNET T Shirt and a pair of faded, weathered shorts in the First Class lounge of Emirates Airlines, chances are that he will respond to the name Dev Wadhwani!

From a middle class boy from the suburbs of Bombay to a Diamond Star in QNET via the hallowed corridors of Wall Street and the glittering lights of Hong Kong as a hot shot investment banker, his journey could not have been more of a roller coaster ride! If you were in V Indonesia 2012 in Bogor, and you saw a sea

of green dominating the audience, then you are about to meet the leader who brought a 3000 strong contingent there, proudly kitted out in the green Team Infiniti shirts. We caught up with self-confessed numbers geek, and got him to debunk the myths surrounding his persona. Be warned, we are about to present to you, Dev Wadhwani, unplugged!

1. Dev, a lot of people have been surprised to find an investment banker in the network marketing business. It’s not exactly a career path chosen by others in the ilk. How did you end up here? Network marketing chose me! A very close friend of mine signed me up. I just bought a product. After using the products and services of the company, I started believing in them. The price point seemed pretty attractive and the possibility of earning money, promoting something that I believed in made a lot of sense to me.

2. People come into QNET from many different backgrounds. And most successful leaders in QNET today have come up the hard way. But in your case, it seems like you made a seamless jump from a successful banking career to a successful networking career! How is that even possible?

Wadhwani People have this perception that I was born with a golden spoon! Nothing could be further from the truth. I grew up in a middle class Indian family and frankly, we were broke through most of my childhood. My father worked for the Indian government’s national airline as a purser and suffered from repeated bouts of ill health, caused by a skin condition, which meant there were hefty medical bills to pay all the time. It didn’t help that he had to go on sick leave without pay, each time his skin condition flared up.

Unfortunately, as a child I inherited the same condition genetically, which is a severe form of eczema that left all exposed parts of my skin with ugly rashes and break outs. Going to school was a nightmare because kids that age can be rather cruel and because of my appearance at the time, I used to be called a leper! No one wanted to be friends with me. The condition subsided eventually when I was 11, but my self-confidence was at an all time low and to compound the problem, I developed a terrible stammer. Finally, when I was 16 my parents separated and the same week my younger sister, died in a car crash. It ripped my family apart and was quite possibly the lowest point of my life.

3. That could not have been an easy, especially at that age. Which makes your transformation all the more amazing. How did you overcome such a challenging phase in your life? Because of my circumstances, I had a lot of pent up aggression. I decided to channel it into sports. I started playing badminton and tennis and eventually got good at it, which helped me gain self-confidence. It was only when I was around 18 that I finally got over my stammer. If you meet any of my classmates from high school today and tell them Dev Wadhwani is a public speaker, they’ll laugh themselves silly!


Around this time, I also struck my path and being good at numbers, got into banking. I struggled at low paying jobs because I didn’t have an MBA. My mother took out loans to eventually send me to the US to get an MBA. Even then, it was not smooth sailing. I had to drop out due to lack of funds and take a break. I remember one Christmas I had $7 in my pocket and survived on it till the New Year.

in my network dropped out at that time and all my cynics and critics used the opportunity to crucify me.

Once I dropped out, I joined a private equity firm and started doing quite well. One year I got a $40,000 bonus, which I invested and turned into $7 million! That’s when my life changed. I went back to school and got my MBA. Since then, I have dabbled in every facet of banking. There have been some good years and some bad years. But being broke doesn’t intimidate me any more. I know I can pick myself and do it all over again if I have to.

I remember V Partner Japadas Bismark saying– ‘A storm doesn’t last forever.’ At that time it sounded philosophical. But looking back I realise how true it was. I built my strongest team during that time. We kept paddling against the current and eventually the tide changed. And today, I am proud to say that we have one of the largest teams in QNET.

4. That’s quite a story! How different was it to mentally adjust to networking from banking? In August 2013, I will have finished 8 years in network marketing with QNET. By nature I am not a natural networker. It has been a real test of my character. I came from an industry where the work I did was so complex that sometimes even my boss didn’t understand what I was doing. Network Marketing changed who I became. For the first time in my life I was forced to deal with people and not numbers. And I think deep down in my soul, I just loved it. I had built this armor around me with my ‘numbers geek’ persona. I was never liked by people because I tended to be a loner and a know-it-all. Working with people has changed me over the years.

5. Is there one thing you can identify as being a catalyst for your transformation? Out of all the programmes that I have attended since my time with QNET, ISB has had the most powerful impact on me. It literally flipped a switch in me. I haven’t missed an ISB Bootcamp since my first one and recently attended by 7th ISB. It’s something I truly believe in. ISB played a major role in transforming me into a better person. I am now a happier person. I have let go of a lot of mental baggage and focus on progressing. My relative success in the business is a byproduct of the change that I was able to go through because of that.

6. Tell us about the challenges you faced since you have been with QNET and what that has taught you. Apart from the behavioral transformation I was forced to go though at a personal level, I truly came into my own in the business due to the challenges the company faced in India in 2008. A lot of people

But it was also the time that my relationship with the company increased manifold and I saw the heart of the company. I was able to see that the people in the company cared and will always do right by us.

7. What is the one important thing that you have discovered about yourself in these 8 years with QNET? I break up my life into phases of ‘living’ and ‘existing’. I went from $7 to $7 million. From merely existing as an impoverished student, I went on to living the high life in my early 20s. I worked hard and partied hard. I was living the dream. If I could become a millionaire at that age, I told myself there was no reason I could not be a billionaire. It was my dream. But then, after a few set backs, I became cautious and went back to existing again. And then when I found Network Marketing, the concept of passive income helped me dream again. The fact that every Tuesday, I open my Virtual Office and see the kind of money I am making, gives me the latitude to start living again. Networking has given me the ability to take bold business decisions again after failing in the past. I am now investing in ventures that I am passionate about. All this is possible because of the nature of the income. I take my billionaire dream very seriously now.

8. And finally, we know your mother is a very active networker. How did you get her into it? I didn’t! She got herself into it. She just saw me present plan after plan at the dining table at home and fell in love with the plan. She muscled her way into the business without me even trying. I take no credit for it. She is absolutely self-made!

When others saw me succeed, they wanted to learn from me and I was able to slowly build a team of people by mentoring them.

Q4- Do you see the Egyptian market, encouraging the industry of network marketing?

A team leader’s responsibility is to inspire, motivate and train others n the last few years, Egypt has been undergoing a major political and social transition. Various economic disruptions have adversely affected key industries such as tourism, banking, retail etc. However, one industry that has remained stable and has helped many young Egyptians gain access to economic opportunities of a new era is Direct Selling and network marketing. Prominent Asian Direct Selling company QNET has maintained a steady foothold in Egypt despite the unstable circumstances and continues to grow by expanding its product offerings to appeal to regional and cultural tastes. We spoke to Dr.Hossam Ibrahim, a university lecturer by profession who is also a leading distributor for QNET in Egypt. He also leads a team of young people that he not only trains in the area of direct selling, but also in basic business skills, personality development and entrepreneurship. He explains what it means to be a team leader, dealing with adversity and how the industry of direct selling changed his life.

Q1- At first, what are the team leader’s tasks in direct selling? A - The team leader’s responsibility is to motivate, inspire and train a group of individuals to achieve success in a professional manner. It means that the team leader also needs to be well versed in the

business and must be constantly learning new things. I regularly attend leadership training programmes abroad so that I can come back and share my learning and experience with my team members and help them grow.

Q2- What are characteristics of the team leader in direct selling? A - The most important qualities that must be met in the team leader is to be honest, responsible, have self-confidence, directs people in the right directions, constant self-development, and to learn what’s new in the direct selling industry.

Q3- How does a person become network marketing team leader? A - Every person wants to become a leader in their industry, someone of real importance. But with leadership comes great responsibility. It means that now you have a large number of individuals who are looking up to you for guidance and for who you are a role model. Leadership is not something that can be learned overnight. A person has to go through a number of stages of growth and evolution in order to be considered a leader. It requires a great deal of practice, patience, selflessness, organisational skills, an open mind and the ability to develop others. As an individual, I had to gain a lot of knowledge about the industry and the business I was in, so that I was in a position to address questions

A – I am glad to see that despite some misunderstanding and negativity due to lack of clarity, the Egyptian government has been encouraging our industry as a form of entrepreneurship. The recent political instability in Egypt has affected the economy badly and only businesses in e-commerce and direct selling seem to be flourishing at the moment. QNET has the advantage of combining both these industries,hence providing an opportunity to many individuals, especially youth to start their own business. Any strong private sector requires good rules that regulate the industry, protect against abuse, establish clear guidelines and are efficient and accessible to all. I hope that the Egyptian Government will also soon recognise the need for establishing rules for our industry in order to protect genuine companies like QNET and allow the industry to flourish and contribute to the local economy.

Q5- What is the difference between network marketing and pyramid marketing? A - Direct selling is simply the marketing of products and services directly to consumers in a face-to-face manner, away from a retail location. Direct selling encompasses a variety of distribution methods; multilevel marketing and network marketing are two types of distribution methods. Pyramid schemes on the other hand are clearly declared illegal in a number of countries. These are schemes where no real products are involved, only the people joining at the early stages make money, commissions are paid for recruitment of members and not on product sales, no training programmes or marketing support is provided and people often promote these as ‘get-rich-quick’ schemes. Pyramid schemes rarely last for longer than a year or so since promoters of such schemes are only interested in making a fast buck and disappearing.


Q6– Were you affected by the campaign against pyramid marketing in Egypt last year? A - Whenever there are any such campaigns, people start to fear the direct selling industry in general because of a lack of awareness of the difference between pyramid marketing and network marketing. We faced similar challenges when some newspapers reported about certain companies being classified as pyramiding companies. Even though QNET was not named in these reports, the fears were still there. QNET is a genuine direct selling company that provides a wide range of useful products and services that people not just use for themselves but also promote to others. The company has a strong code of ethics, clear policies and procedures for conducting the business, provides trainings, business tools and invests in the development of its distributors. As a team leader, I make sure that my team members clearly understand this and remove any doubts or fears from their minds about the company.

Q7– How does the company deal with these negative campaigns? A - QNET has implemented several awareness campaigns through the media to help the public understand what the company does. The company regularly communicates with the media to provide information about its latest products and services and has also invited several media to its headquarters in Malaysia to see for themselves the genuineness of the company. Many reports have appeared in different media including TV to showcase the real activities of the company and dispel any negative allegations against it. Q8- Some universities’ doctors confirm that network marketing is an illusion and fraudulence. What do you think? A - The success of QNET is the only response to anyone making any allegations about the company. Hard work is the basis of success for anyone at QNET. If you hear anything else, it’s not true. Q9- What are the procedures to be followed to define the network marketing industry to a customer?

A - The company conducts weekly, monthly, and quarterly training sessions for defining; how does the direct selling market works with network marketing system. Q10- Do you think that the network marketing industry needs organised legislation in Egypt? A – As I have mentioned before, rules are very helpful to regulate any industry and prevent fraud. In addition, if Egyptian government can also establish a local direct selling association as a self-regulatory body in which all genuine direct selling companies can become members. Such a industry body will ensure that only companies that adhere to a clear set of rules and regulations will be allowed to become members. Together with the government, this industry body can help combat the emergence of fraudulent companies. QNET is a member in the direct selling association in several countries and has a good understanding of its workings. If the government is open to this suggestion, I am sure QNET will be willing to help with this. Q11 - What is your advice to someone who wants to join the direct selling business? This is a great industry that has helped many people change their lives. However, it is not easy to achieve success. If you want to become an entrepreneur in any business, you must learn to embrace failure and be prepared for a very difficult journey. Similarly, in the network marketing business, there is no quick-rich method. Only hard work, commitment and continuous learning will bring success. And once you start to do well, you must teach others how to be successful because the beauty of this industry is that your success depends on the success of your team.


An Interview with Kavita Sugandh 1.What were you doing before discovering QNET? And how did you come across QNET? When I came across QNET, I had already been working with some of the top brand names in India for 8 years at that time. But I come from a traditional business family and was never comfortable with working for someone else and always knew I wanted to do something on my own. However, I never had enough capital to get started. Initially, I started an HR consultancy business from home where I was the CEO, administrator, the clerk and the only employee, since I couldn’t afford to hire people. With hard work and determination, eventually I was able to grow this business and establish multiple offices. This experience also taught me that running a business is not easy. I was very hands-on and my company was centred around me and that meant I could not afford to fall sick or go on vacation since a lot of money was at stake. Also, all the profits seemed to only appear on paper and never in the bank! Then one day, QNET came into our lives through a family friend. My husband, who is also my upline, realised the potential of the QNET business and immediately took it up. I was initially reluctant since I was still focussing on making a success of my HR consultancy business, but decided to give it a shot, though not wholeheartedly. The big ‘click’ for me happened at VCON 2009. I realised the power of QNET to impact sustainable change. I came back home from VCON and closed down my business. From that day on, I decided to give QNET my 100 per cent.

My biggest challenge was coming out of my shell. I am inherently shy and a loner by nature. This has often been perceived as arrogance. In the business of networking, I had to make the effort to change this and take initiative to approach people and talk to them. For this, I will always be grateful to VC Sachin Gupta, my husband and upline and AVP Dev Wadhwani, because they helped and guided me to becoming who I am today. I have never thought of quitting or giving up. I AM NOT A QUITTER. I never was. In fact, each challenge has only made me stronger. I think people who quit either have other choices or they are simply ok with not succeeding. I had no choices other than QNET. QNET is my last ship.

4. Has it been difficult being a woman in this business? Why would it be difficult for a woman? In fact, I think men find it far more difficult. Women usually have all the traits needed to be successful in network marketing. In my opinion, us women are the only reason for our own failures. If we want to be successful and walk hand in hand in men, then why do we need a man to make us realise our own potential? We don’t need a special women’s day to talk about everything that’s good about being a woman. Success doesn’t see gender. It comes to those who put their blood and sweat into and are deserving of it.

5.One of the challenges many of the women in this 2.How many years did it take before you felt you business face is lack of family support or pressures were achieving some level of success in your QNET of family commitments that prevent them from focusing properly on networking. What is your business? advice for them? I still don’t consider myself successful. There is so much more to achieve! For me, this is a never-ending journey. A journey that I wish would never end, because I am enjoying every minute of the ride.

I have never shied away from hard work, but with QNET I have learnt about hard work at a whole new level. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but a get-rich-sure business, provided you are putting our heart and soul into it. For the first 18 months, I did not make a single cheque. I got rejected non-stop. That made me angry but it also fuelled my hunger to do better. When I got my first cheque after 18 months of hard work and effort, the wait was totally worth it!

3.What were the challenges that you faced as part of your QNET journey? Did you ever want to give up when times were hard? I believe that when you go all out to achieve your dreams, you will be faced with challenges. You cannot achieve success without failure. I am glad that I faced all the challenges and experienced failures, because that’s what helped me grow as a person.

I think families will keep opposing anything that they are not comfortable with simply because they don’t understand it. They need to see your determination and craze and passion to achieve something. They need to test your seriousness about your goals. In the natural order of things, the world will try to shake anything that can be shaken. But once they know that that any amount of shaking will not uproot you, they stop trying. Communication with the family is very important. Making them a part of your dreams help s in a big way. Most of the time, the challenge lies in the lack of communication. We talk about our dreams with the whole world, but forget to do so with our own families! If you are determined and your family member -- be it spouse or parents or in-laws-- are able to see that determination, they will support you. In many cases I find that lack of family support is simply an excuse for many people and is never the actual reason for them not trying.


6.What kept you motivated and driven to stay on the path?

I was willing to keep my ego aside and follow my upline 200 per cent and he has been the best upline ever.

MONEY and SUCCESS. I like to have a lot of both!

8.What is the one important thing that you have discovered about yourself in all these years with QNET?

I don’t think I need any sort of external motivation to stay on the path. Every time I received a rejection, I was motivated to try again. Every time I was faced with a challenge, I found myself working with double the energy to overcome it. This journey would be very boring without challenges. I love this game, it always keeps me on my toes for victory!

7.You and your husband are a team. How much of your success do you attribute to him? I owe all my success to him. He is the one and only reason for it. He brought me into this business and has been with me through the thick and thin and the ups and downs. In this business, he is my upline and not my husband. In the last 4 years, we have been less of a couple and more of upline and downline. One mistake I see many couples make in this business is confuse this relationship and that’s what prevents them from making it big.

I am very, very competitive. I hate being left behind. I keep pushing myself harder every single day to achieve my goals. I am super aggressive when it comes to achieving my targets. I can’t live life without targets. Whether it is a business target or any other target in life. I need to know what I will get when I reach the finish line. QNET has brought out and honed that competitive spirit in me.

9.What is the one QNET product you cannot live without and why? Physio Radiance Visage plus all the way! From the day I started using it, I have become a big fan. It makes me glow. I believe it is the most important product for networkers. When you go out and meet people and talk to them about being a part of a million dollar project, u need to look like a million dollars. Every networker must use it and flaunt it.
