City of Colton Community Services Department Staff Spotlight Meet LUCAS AriAS
This Summer will be Lucas’ twelfth summer as a member of the Aquatics Team in the Community Services Department.
Lucas discovered his passion for swimming when he began taking swim lessons at the Gonzales Community Center at age three until he went on to be a member of Colton High School’s swim team. Lucas began his career in the Recreation Division in 2011 as a Lifeguard while attending Colton High School and then University of California, Los Angeles. Every summer Lucas would return to his hometown pool to teach swim lessons and to inspire another generation to get excited about swimming like he did. In 2019, Lucas became the Pool Manager and earned several certifications, including Lifeguard Instructor, Title 22 Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Aquatics Facility Operator. Lucas continued to teach all incoming lifeguards how to guard and instruct. He was instrumental in revamping the ‘Learn To Swim’ program and continues to find ways to improve Aquatics Programing. It was during his time as a Pool Manager, Lifeguard Instructor and the Colton High School Swim Coach that Lucas realized that his true passion laid in the medical field. Lucas became a Registered Nurse after graduating with an Associates of Science in Nursing this past Winter. With his years of training and education, Lucas continues to provide a valuable Lifeguard Training Program and is an inspiring leader of the Aquatics Team. We thank Lucas for his dedication to the safety of our residents and look forward to his future service to our community.
