01/ National Palace Museum (Field trip)
To understand why people travel alone and how they feel, I start conversation with 3 single tourists in different scenic spots to do interviews.
With the conclusion from interview, I did a off-line survey to quantify some preferences
I went to national palace museum, one of the most popular attractions in Taipei to learn about the current facilities.
Subject 1: Zhang Luoping (Artist)
PROJECT 1
iMuseum INDIVIDUAL PROJECT UI DESIGN Feb 2019 - May 2019
Many people travel alone today. I found that they usually try to listen to others’ team guide talking about the story behind the scenic spots. Do they feel lonely for nobody to communicate with? What’s the factor during journey they care most? Why do they choose to travel alone? This project is aiming to explore the deep needs of those tourists without company and give them a better travel experience.
Fort Santo Domingo, Danshui district Taiwan. 20:00
WHY TRAVEL ALONE “The places I have interests in are always not attractive to my family” AIM OF TRAVEL “I travel to learn. Traveling through different countries and cultures, learning diverse styles of life is a way to find my inspiration.” HOW YOU FEEL “Sometimes I feel pity because I have no one to share my thoughts, and I don’t know how other people think about what I saw either.”
Subject 2: Prasadarunk (Financier)
Taipei Palace Museum. 15:00
AIM OF TRAVEL “Knowledge. I like visiting museum and learn about the history. Could you imagine this exquisite drinking vessel is made in thousands years ago? HOW YOU FEEL ”Good. I find this voice navigator is very useful! ” * Remark: later on, when I walk along with him, I find some problem he met but didn’t mention before —— he kept asking some special questions: “Won’t wine go bad in these mental vessels? Coz I remembered most wine were stored in wooden vats in Europe”; “Why is this headwear so long and difficult to use?” These questions are still unsolved till he left the museum.

I made the low-fidelity prototype using hardboard and paper. After that, I invited my roommate (who is also a Chinese overseas student) to “operate” the app. After my brief introduction, she could easily understand the functions and operate it. Additionally, she gave her suggestions about the unity of buttons and shape of tags, and I adjusted them according her description.

INTERVIEW
We had a thorough tour of MAOKONG area to explore their existing service and product
The second time, we went to MAOKONG Farmer Association office to learn deeper about the backstage of their management system and the details about tea-planting.
01/ Tea promotion center Tea promotion center is for tourists to learn about the process of tea-planting and tea-making, the history of MAOKONG area, the origin and category of MAOKONG tea. It also provides tea seats for tourists to relax.

Volunteer introduction
02/ Tea house
03/ Introduction & Map board
Tea houses are operated by local tea planter to provide the drinks and foods made for tourists
Display of the layout of the area; Introductions of each teahouse; Investigation
MAOKONG tea mountain is one of the most important tea production areas in Taiwan. Every year, many tourists visit there to enjoy the scenery and buy tea, which is almost the only way for the tea planters to earn a living. This project records the whole process of our 4 visits, from problem finding, investigation, to solution analysis and final products, aiming to improve both the experience of tourists and tourism development of this area.
Tea tool exhibition
“customers usually have no idea about the best time to harvest tea, as a consequence, some of them comes too early to find the tea’s not yet ripe, some comes too late to find good tea has been sold out.” “- Where is the tea from those who didn’t won the prize?” “- Maybe they can be sold in a lower prize”
“Some excellent farmers are getting older these years, and their kids choose to get a job in city far away from home instead of inheriting their parents’ craftsmanship ”
“Tea-picking is the hardest work that can’t be finished by a few of people, some family have to give up taking part in the competition for lack of money to hire tea-pickers”
PROBLEM DEFINE The main visitors are middle-aged people, few youngsters came to enjoy the tea.
Each tea garden has their best type of tea, which can only be known when you arrive there, so visitors cannot choose at the beginning.
Old tea masters lack their inheritors and tea-pickers
Each tea house is located in different corner of the mountain, visitors have to walk for a long distance to find.
Farmers who does’t won the prize in a competition have more difficulties to sell their tea.
Tea is harvested several times a year irregularly, so most of the customers have no idea of when is the best time to come.
04/ MAOKONG Tea Competition MAOKONG tea competition is hold by The MAOKONG Farmer Association 3-4 times a year, aiming to propagandize MAOKONG tea through public activity and encourage their farmers to plant attentively at the same time. In general, the winner’s tea will be awarded and packed by MFA officially, so that they can be sold in a higher price.

“Phubbers” refers to people who always look at the screen at any time and anywhere. They want to fill up pieces of time by staring at the screen.
To confirm the conclusion from observation, I did a little survey online and received answers from 110 people.

TOUCHWAY INDIVIDUAL PROJECT UI ARDUINO MECHANICAL DESIGN Jul 2019 - Sept 2019
On the subway
Taking a lift
Walking
Waiting
Riding a bike
These years, a growing number of accidents happened because of this: On December 4th, 2018, A pregnant woman in Hangzhou fell down to the well with her eyes on smartphone; on November 7th, 2017, A man in Shenzhen stepped emptily when walking into a elevator; And over 10 million car accidents are caused by distracted pedestrians looking down at their phones when walking through the road...
How to use technology and design to reduce their time spent on the screen?
PRIMARY RESEARCH Nowadays, people tend to look at their mobile phones anytime and anywhere, even when they are walking across the street. As a consequence, the number of car accident caused by this situation increases every year. This project is mainly to explore reasons behind their behaviors and promote concept to solve it. At the end of project, I use mechanical structures and Arduino model to realize this technic.
To solve the problem, the first thing is to know: What are they looking at ?
What are you usually do with your phone when you are walking on the street?
Xing Liu is a take-out deliveryman, he spends most of his working time on his electric motorcycle, following the navigation to find customers’ home
03/ Observation I made the second observation to see specific situations when people tend to do these 2 things. people who check navigation people who chat online
Safety worries: This group of people are always in a rush on the street to deliver food to many places, which needs them watch for road conditions and navigation at the same time.

Characteristics
Navigation apps: 12.8%
Characteristic problem INSIGHT 2 : Looking at navigation can be much more dangerous, because people are more likely to check which way to go when the road is going to change(like crossroads), where many cars pass by.
These “outdoor people” are always on the way, looking for their new destinations. They spend much time on e-map apps with their eyes on the screen, which can be dangerous when the road gets complexed and difficult to move forward.
Sports apps: 2%
PROBLEM STATEMENT
COMPETITORS ANALYSIS
To sum up, a lot of people walk or ride on the various roads with eyes on their mobile phones because they want to follow the navigation to know which direction to go, however, it can be really dangerous for they usually ignore to watch out the road condition, that’s the part of reasons why millions of car accidents happened every year.
The concept of tactile navigation is still in the research and development stage, few products have been applied or mass-produced. I learned about the following three innovations through research.
1

VALUE PROPOSITION For those who are always following the navigations on the road, I’d like to design a touch-sensitive navigation equipments, unlike current visual navigations distracts pedestrian from the road, or sound navigations can be useless due to the noisy environment on the street (wearing earphones can be more dangerous), we help people to know their way without looking at screens or listening to guide.

In a similar way, if the ring magnets can be controlled in every tiny cambered surface, the ball will roll to 360° directions.

Experimental Materials: Steering engine, a ball and 3 gear shaft (3D Printing) Arduino board, wires, USB cable, laptop, super glue(connect engine&shaft), two motors
When 1 is rotated by A as shown(deasil), the ball will be subjected to an upward force as F1, then spin to the left.

MATERIALS
Fix gear shaft and turn on the engine.
The ball not only spins but also moves
Place a magnet under a steel ball to fix its position.
The steel ball is too heavy to carry
If we change two engines’ rotate speed, the force will be different too. (T = 9550P/n
F = T/r)
In this way, the ball can be controlled to spin to any direction.
The ball is fixed by 2 shafts and driven by the other 2
The ball can be rolled smoothly
Remove the magnet and lift the ball off the ground

Change the steering engine to a motor.

I learn from the robot BB8 in STAR WARS, who can go everywhere with its body. The ball body can roll to any directions and I wonder why. So I bought one and dissected it to figure it out: The body is driven by 2 wheels, which are driven by 2 main gears for each one and controlled by different power of motor for their direction .

01/ Interview “What do you do with your pets when you are out for some days?”
WELCATS INDIVIDUAL PROJECT DATA VISUALIZATION Dec. 2018 - Jan. 2019
More and more people choose to raise a cat today, especially those who are still single. But how would they take care of their cats when they are on a short business trip or during a long vacation? Will that be good to leave them at home or foster them to other people' house? This project is to find a way for both the owners and their cats to let them feel convenient and safe when the owner is out.
“ I won’t leave her to other people’s home, coz I cannot ensure the new environment is clean and safe enough for her to live in, I’m afraid she’s infected by virus or bacteria and get ill. So I often ask my friends to come and feed her in my own house.”

PROJECT BACKGROUND
SCHEMATIC
INTERNAL STRUCTURE
Recent years, the building energy consumption is taking lager and larger proportion of total energy consumption in China, in 2017, the percentage had increased to 30%
The composite parabolic concentrator is composed of two symmetrical parabolic mirrors. The included Angle between the symmetry axis of the paraboloid and that of the concentrator is the receiving Angle(30°).
LIGHTING PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE
As the representative of the building energy-saving facilities, distributed photo-voltaic panels have developed considerably for the past few years. Data shows that new installed capacity in 2016 is 4 times as much as that in 2013. However, there are still some disadvantages of the existing products: -light-proof -space-wasting -use limitation (can only be installed on the roof)
PROJECT 5
LIGHT CUBE GROUP PROJECT (Design & build the model, Thesis study, Schematic analysis & drawing, app interface & video making) PRODUCT DESIGN FEB. 2018 - JUL. 2018
Energy saving and emission reduction is a global trend these years. As one of the most important power, solar energy has been used widely on the roof of buildings. Our team invent an unique concentrated module which can be installed on vertical surface of buildings for its light-admitting function. It can change its angle according to solar altitude angle, realizing the multiple functions of power generation or heat insulation.
As a consequence, most of building vertical facades cannot be covered due to the lighting requirements, which is space-wasting.
INSIGHT

Mirror
When the incident Angle is smaller than the receiving Angle(θ<30°), like θ1, the light will be reflected from the side cambered surface to the photovoltaic panel in the bottom. When the incident Angle is greater than the receiving Angle(θ>30°), like θ2, the light will be reflected twice from both sides and then back to the air.

Hollow
We changed the hollow mirror-side body to the solid glass one, in order to expand the range of light which can be adsorbed.
DOUBLE CURTAIN WALL FRAME SCHEMATIC
n=sinγ/sinβ = sinθ’/sinθ n(glass) = 1.49 θ’ =arcsin(1.49 x sin30°) = 48.16°
Our team designed a kind of selective concentrating photo-voltaic module which can be widely used on building facades in modern cities today. Solid glass
When the incident Angle θ<48.16°, the light will be reflected to the side surface, and then to the photovoltaic panel by total internal reflection.
summer airflow
When the incident Angleθ>48.16°, the light will be reflected back to the air.
winter airflow All modules are installed on the double-layer curtain wall frame fixed on the surface of the building by clasps, connected with the line within the frame, transmitting electric energy and control signals.
θ’
Besides, when we change the position of body by bearing drive to a specific angle which allows the light to be refracted through the glass, it turns on the interior lighting mode.
The module combines 3 functions: indoor daylighting, photovoltaic power generation and auxiliary heat insulation, providing a comprehensive solution for solar energy using.
bearings
The module group form a cavity with a 20cm interval from the building wall, contributing to a double-layer curtain wall structure. When summer comes, users can open upper and lower vents of the frame, so that the indoor temperature can be lowered in terms of chimney effect; When winter comes, they can closing the vents instead, allowing internal air in cavity to be heated by the photovoltaic modules, forming an insulating layer.

BASIC TRANSPARENT MODULE This kind of module is used to those surfaces which is not necessary to install photovoltaic module due to the short sunshine duration, promote both the unity and permeability of the architecture.
In order to make user control our product more conveniently, we developed the APP control system based on speech recognition and Internet of things technologies.
VENTILATION MODULE These insulation photovoltaic modules can accelerate the speed of air flow inside the frame curtain wall, in order to take away the heat more efficiently and enhance the insulation performance.
CURVED MODULE This kind of module can be used for curved exterior surface of building, In this way, it can not only ensure the unity of the building appearance but also expand the scope of application of the products.

INTELLIGENT HOME CONTROL SYSTEM
GLASS CURTAIN WALL
The Light cube can be installed on the windows of ordinary house, being a part of home intelligent control system.
Largely used on glass curtain walls in urban area, providing a wide way to generate more electricity for companies.
INTELLIGENT STATION CHARGING SYSTEM If the light cubes are installed on the stations in different places, so people can charge their phones when waiting.
Intelligent design: speech recognition, users can control and switch mode simplify by talking and operating the app. Energy-saving & environmental-friendly
SWOT ANALYSIS WEAKNESS
Few enterprises want to put into production. The research direction is too novel to form an unified industry standard for photovoltaic curtain wall architecture. The cost of pv curtain wall without mass production has less advantages than that of traditional curtain wall. The light cube is not suitable for those areas with poor light.
OPPORTUNITY
THREAT
The rapid development of China's construction industry. The national sustainable development strategy guides the construction industry to develop towards the direction of energy-saving buildings The state subsidies are increasing, promoting energy-efficient buildings tol enter the market at a faster speed in the future.
The building industry is committed to innovation in building energy efficiency. More multinational companies are entering the Chinese market with advanced technological advantages. Consumers have gone used to the existing traditional curtain wall and may find it difficult to accept new form of windows, which will weaken the demand for photovoltaic curtain wall to a certain extent.
COST PER MODULE
STRENGTH
If standardized production can be applied in factory due to the advantage of modular design, project period can be shorten, and the construction waste will reduced too. Solar energy is converted into electric energy through concentrated photovoltaic cube to achieve the purpose of energy saving and emission reduction. Intelligent control system module. Comply with resource recycling economy 3R principle.

01/ Economic effectiveness A single power module can provide approximately 34 KW/h every year, equivalent to 27 CNY, considering only the benefits of electricity generation. The usable area of glass curtain walls in our nation reached more than 30 billion square meter in 2017, so it can be seen that the product owns a sizable potential market. Suppose the product is rolled out nationwide, it can generate 204 billion KW/h every year, which can increase the current distributed photovoltaic power generation by 17%.

LITERATURE REVIEWS
OBSERVATION
01/ Desk research
01/ Field research —— leaked through parcels
02/ Record
I went to one of the parcel stations of our campus and watch for a whole day to see how many peoples have no awareness of protecting their personal information.
I record how many packages with personal information labels will be thrown into the bins directly.
PRIVACY AND MEDIA FREEDOM RAYMOND WACKES, OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS
“Critics have suggested that I overlook an important characteristic of private data: that on its own, an item of information may be perfectly innocuous, but when combined with another piece of equally inoffensive data, the information is transformed into something that is genuinely private.“

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT DATA VISUALIZATION Jul. 2019 - Sept. 2019
This project is main to explore how we lose our privacy inadvertently during our daily lives as well as to warn people to pay attention to their personal information through visual exhibition.
Parcel stations are established in almost every community, people usually fetch their express through self-service. The follow is the process of self pick-up in PeiYang campus .
INSIGHT: A HARMLESS INFORMATION CAN BE HARMFUL TO A PERSON’S PRIVACY WHEN COMBINED
PRIVACY What do you do with your old receipts, bills, tickets and parcel packages? How many times a day will you receive rubbish messages and nuisance call? How much privacy do you think you have until now?
About parcel station
“By linking information from different data sources, attackers may launch a re-identification attack and reversely analyze the real identity of anonymous users, resulting in the disclosure of user identity and privacy.” “With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, the rules of individual behaviors can be predicted and identified more accurately through the modeling and analysis of user behaviors, and the deliberately hidden sensitive attributes can be predicted too.” INSIGHT: THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNOLOGY CAN SEE THROUGH THE ANONYMITY AND MAKE THE DISCLOSURE OF PRIVACY MORE FREQUENT AND THOROUGH

03/ Conclusions How to deal with the bin Some unknown people came to explore and collect these packages
*
The smaller the package is, the easier it can be thrown immediately.
*
When asked “will you destroy the labels before you throwing your package ?”, over 80% of males answered “Yes”, while almost every females answered ”No”. But though the observation, the difference between males & females is not that obvious. This phenomenon may be caused by shadowing. We can explain as: People tend to believe that it is wise to destroy the label, but they hardly do it.

PREPARATION 02/ Choose presentation mode
01/ Make envelopes
The concept I want to convey is: if you don't keep an eye on your personal information and just throw your bills away, people can watch your private life through them.
I collected many parcels’ labels, bills, railway and air tickets, receipts, QRcode, price tags, screenshots of social media account and daily life photos (with permission).
Remove labels with personal information from parcels
IMAGE BEHIND INFORMATION
Stick them to an envelope
MATCH GAME
Stick train tickets and clothes labels to an envelope
Remove QR code(with detailed information of parcels) from label and stick it to the seal
ENVELOPE
Finally I choose "open the envelope" as a way to interact because it can give people a feeling that they are looking at others' privacy.
In the end, I made 100 “privacy envelopes”, with different kinds of personal information on their surface and personal life photos inside.
PRESENTATION I choose a housing estate as my exhibition site because I want people to be aware of the privacy issues in their daily lives without preparation. Passersby browse or open the envelopes to check what’s inside.
02/ Set up display rack I prepared bamboo poles, scissor, iron wire, pliers, rope and clamps to set up a shelf to display my work.
My materials
Cut off iron wires
Tie the poles with wires
Fix a pair of poles
Break the poles into different sizes
Make the pole more stable
Fix the horizontal pole
Cut off the ropes
Tie the ropes to poles
Tie ropes on the other side
Clip envelopes to the rope
Tie more envelopes
