About
As a dual architecture and landscape student, I believe that a good architecture responds well to the wider context and coherence should be established between the internal space and external space. The experiences of users in the building, as well as the experiences of people pass the building should be equally considered in the design. The making of space is fourdimensional, including time. Adaptability and sustainability play important roles in the design. This portfolio demonstrates my projects in the university studio work. It includes the architecture and landscape integrated project, and the cross thinking of both are also applied to the individual architecture or landscape project.

A Centre for Creative Writing and Critical Thinking, Manchester
This is the final integrated project in Third Year. The given site includes part of Mancunian Way, which is an urban motorway that skirts the southern edge of Manchester city centre. The programme for the building is developed from an individual research of ‘Waste of human value’, which aims to promote creative writing and critical thinking. The overall architecture and landscape design explores the possibility to use spaces under Mancunian Way to link the city. A coherent landscape and architectural spatial strategy is developed, responding to the boarder context. The relationship of external and internal spaces is carefully considered.

Domesti-city, Saltaire
Domesti-city is a housing development project in my Second Year. The project focused on creating accommodation for key workers in a model village in Saltaire. The given site is on the edge of a housing area near the Saltaire Mill, next to a busy road. The final scheme consists of 12 dwellings arranged in 4 groups. Each group combines two 2-dedroom dwellings and one 1-bedroom dwelling in the middle. Green space is well considered in the design. A space for cultivation is designed for every individual dwelling. The 1-bedroom dwelling is lifted to the first floor to create an entrance courtyard for each group. In response to the context, the view towards the mill is retained, by shifting the dwellings to an angle. Also, flexibility and sustainability are considered throughout the process of the overall design.

Glass-making Centre, Scarborough
The project is designing a Liquid Glass Centre in the costal area in Scarborough. It investigates the form, strategy and fabric of a building influenced by the thermal and optical energy, and the appreciation of light and heat. The building accommodates 3 main studio spaces, a gallery and shop, a public learning centre, etc. The project is developed through different means of drawings and largely through the site model, which represents the extreme conditions of the site. The relationship between the building and the wider context is explored through the designing of a series of courtyards.

Queen Mary Park Regeneration, Sheffield
This landscape project is a revaluation and redevelopment of an urban park in Sheffield. The design focused on biodiversity and water management issues. The illustrations show the concept of a transaction from woodland to wetland near the entrance area, and the contractors plans demonstrate the planting design of three areas. 1:200 Contractors Plans Area 1

Strategic Design – Sheffield Cultural Industrial Quarter
This project aims to create a connection between Sheffield city centre and the train station. The overall strategy is based on revealing the river hidden in the city centre. A suspended walkway is designed over the river, linking the station. The warehouses along the river are used as space for creative activities such as a graffiti archive. The assessment of the project was an exhibition. For the exhibition, a 1:1 model of a part of the walkway was made by a group of three, including myself, in order to give people a real experience and also functioned as the display board of a 1:200 model and drawings. A sketch-up model of the whole area was created for the analysis and representations.
