Basically open-concept or barrierfree bathrooms, wet rooms are tiled continuously from floor to ceiling as well as across the floor surface, giving a sleek, unified appearance.

Sinks, countertops and vanities are mounted to the walls and hover above the unbroken plane of the floor. The wet room’s uninterrupted sight lines give a feeling of space to even a small room. The continuous floor surface makes for easy cleanup and allows people in wheelchairs or with restricted mobility to move freely. Here are a few things to consider when designing your wet room:
Express Yourself The open spaces and abundance of tile that define a wet room invite you to build your own unique look. Whether you choose soothing earth tones and textures, cool minimalist grays, whites and blacks, or bright colors and patterns, a wet room can create an eye-catching display. Curbless Shower Because the entire room is waterproof, your shower can be completely open to the room with no enclosure at all. Just be sure there’s enough space to place the toilet and sink where they won’t get splashed by spray from the shower. Glass enclosures with seamless doors are another popular option. They can contain water on all sides without restricting the view. Or, sometimes simply a slab partition between the shower and the toilet will do the trick, leaving the front of the shower open to the rest of the room. The slab may be a foot or two short of the ceiling and face the doorway to minimize its effect on the visual flow. Threshold drains—or grates that are flush with the tile floor—may define the edge of the shower area. Some drains even glow from within, using interior colored or white LED lighting for an extra flair and to help orient a person under the shower’s spray.
Another popular option is adding a place to sit in the shower. A built-in slate ledge, matching or contrasting with the wall tile, a wall-mounted drop-down bench in bamboo or a free-standing teak stool is a handy feature for anyone and contributes to the overall design. Fixtures Floating vanities, attached to the wall without legs, and floating countertops look great with today’s vessel sinks and minimalist faucets. In addition to their sleek look, these features also provide sink access for anyone in a wheel chair. Drawers or shelves attached underneath or on each side of the sink provide storage. ONE CO-OWNER CAN FORCE THE SALE OF PROPERTY, EVEN IF THE OTHER CO-OWNERS DON’T AGREE Q: MY BROTHER AND I INHERITED SEVERAL ADJACENT TRACTS OF LAND FROM OUR FATHER WHEN HE DIED. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD A FALLING OUT SHORTLY AFTER OUR FATHER’S DEATH, AND HAVEN’T SPOKEN TO EACH OTHER IN SEVERAL YEARS. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN PAYING THE TAXES ON THE PROPERTY AND PAYING FOR THE GRASS TO BE CUT FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. MY BROTHER LIVES IN CALIFORNIA AND DOESN’T CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING. THE TAXES AND THE UPKEEP HAVE GOTTEN RATHER EXPENSIVE. I WOULD LIKE TO SELL THE LAND, BUT THE LAST TIME MY BROTHER AND I SPOKE, HE TOLD ME HE DIDN’T WANT TO SELL THE LAND. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN FORCE MY BROTHER TO SELL HIS HALF SINCE HE HAS NOT CONTRIBUTED ANYTHING FOR THE UPKEEP OR TAXES ON THE PROPERTY? I AM WILLING TO DIVIDE THE MONEY WITH HIM JUST TO GET IT SOLD. A: You can file a lawsuit seeking to force the sale or partition of the land. In Louisiana, any co-owner of real estate has the right to partition or divide property that is co-owned, if it can be fairly divided, or, if a tract of land, because of its shape, size, or the number of owners, can’t be equitably divided, a co-owner may file suit to force the sale of the land, even when the other co-owner or co-owners refuse. However, a court-ordered sale is not cheap, and should be your last resort. When you go to court, the judge will either order that the property be partitioned, if it can be, or if it can’t be fairly divided, the judge will order that the property sold at private sale or at a sheriff’s sale. Regardless, you and your brother would probably make more if you sold the property without going through the court. The best thing would be for you and your brother to try and agree on a sales price and then hire a real estate agent to market and sell the property. Before hiring an attorney, you should try contacting your brother again. Explain to him that you are planning on hiring an attorney to file suit to force a sale. He should understand that even if he doesn’t want to sell the property, you can force the sale. Remind him that the two of you will likely end up with less money after the property is sold, if you are forced to file suit. You should also mention that even if he outlives you, he still won’t get all of the property or profits from the sale of the property. Instead, you will probably leave your share of the property to your wife or your children, and your brother will still be left with just his half. Before hiring a lawyer and filing suit, you should try to persuade his brother to sell the property and thereby maximize the amount you both receive.
A DEBT COLLECTOR’S TACTICS ARE LIMITED

Q: MY EX-WIFE RAN UP A LOT OF CREDIT CARD DEBT WHILE WE WERE MARRIED, AND I ASSUMED PART OF THAT DEBT WHEN WE PARTITIONED OUR COMMUNITY PROPERTY. NOW, BILL COLLECTORS ARE CALLING ME NON-STOP, EVEN AT WORK. MY EMPLOYER HAS TOLD THEM THAT I AM NOT ALLOWED TO TAKE PERSONAL PHONE CALLS, BUT THEY STILL HAVEN’T STOPPED CALLING. IF THIS CONTINUES, I COULD GET REPRIMANDED, OR EVEN WORSE, FIRED. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE THEM STOP CALLING? A: The first thing you should do is write a letter to the bill collection company or companies that are calling you at work and tell them to stop contacting you. Be sure to send the letter(s) certified mail, return receipt requested. A debt collector who receives this kind of notice from a debtor is not allowed to continue to contact you, except to tell you that they will no longer attempt to collect from you, or that they intend to take some specific legal action against you. Of course, sending this letter does not mean you don’t owe the debt anymore. It just means the debt collector can’t continue to call you and harass you. And, the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act specifically prohibits bill collectors from calling you at work if your employer prohibits you from these types of calls, and if the bill collector is made aware of your employer’s policy. If the bill collector is made aware of your employer’s policy, and continues to call and harass you at work, you can hire an attorney to sue to try to recover any damages you might have incurred, plus attorney’s fees and court costs. If you hire an attorney to represent you, the bill collector can only call the attorney — not you or any other person.
