In 1947, the Lafayette Real Estate Board was established. From Coca-Cola introducing “Drink Coca-Cola. It’s the Real Thing.” as their slogan, to individual home-ownership virtually becoming a right, the 1940’s were an important time for Lafayette, Louisiana. Our economy was mainly one of agriculture until the 1940’s when industries such as gas and petroleum became the local dominant. Downtown Lafayette was beginning to expand as our economy and people struggled from the Great Depression. Downtown Lafayette was finally starting to reach out towards University Avenue and Johnston Street on it’s way to becoming the Downtown Lafayette we know today.
