Some anglers are catching bass locally: Henderson Lake (high), Lake Martin, Dauterieve/ Fausse Pointe (high), Bayou Benoit area (high), Meyette Point area (high), Bayou Teche’ – Patterson, Chicot State Park (Ville Platte), Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend (very good), False River, Stephenville area (very high), Saline Bayou, Larto Lake, CLECO Lake, Indian Creek, Caney Lake. What on: Craws, Brush Hogs, spinnerbaits swim/ minnow baits, Chatter Baits (with paddle bait trailers) ribbon tail worms. Targets: The Northwest portions of the lake should be your best choices. Slow Moving water (drains) could be helpful. Soft plastics and slow retrieves. Mr. Twister Fat Grubs on a belly weight hook are extremely weedless and will attract and catch good fish. Also, Ribbon Tail worms and Rage Tail Craws. SLOW retrieves best. • Sac-A-Lait: Where: Henderson Lake (remains high) – A few good reports are coming in. Deep water, Northwest areas best. Also: Fausse Pointe/Dauterieve (high), Lake Martin, Chicot State Park (Ville Platte), Toledo Bend (very good), CLECO Lake, Indian Creek, False River, Saline Bayou (high), Larto Lake, Bayou Teche-Patterson. What on: Minnows/shiners, Swim baits, tubes, grubs and beetle spins – very slow retrieves. Use slight “twitches” not “jerking” when working a cork. Colors: Match natural bait fish. Targets: Northwest Factor - very important. Near green grass areas, brush/ tree tops and deep water ledges. Think deep water (6 ft plus).

Cat Fish: Where: Lake Martin, Toledo Bend, Joseph’s Harbor area, Pecan Island. Targets: No changes - Down current ends of islands, Bridge pilings, piers, rocks, log jams, brush piles, drains, island points and canal intersections. What on: Earthworms (large), Mullet, shrimp, live shad, crawfish, chicken livers, blue gill, Berkley Gulp Shrimp. Bream: Very few reports - Henderson Lake, Fausse Pointe State Park, Lake Martin, Toledo Bend. What on: Jigs, worms, beetle spins. Targets: Cypress tree clusters – best with grass present, piers/boat docks, lay downs. Slow Retrieves. Goggle Eye: No reports. Where: Targets: Choupique: No reports. What on: Targets: White Bass (Bar Fish): Nothing from Toledo

Bend. Stripers: No reports. What on: Targets: Gar: Same – Toledo Bend. What on: Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, chatter baits. Targets: Grassy areas, shorelines with trees, tops, roots, patchy grass and moving water (drains).

Saltwater: What: Reds / Specs/Trout). A few reports of Trout in marshy areas. Go when you can but pick a slight/ no windy day. Water is on a slow fall. Where: Grand Lake, Calcasieu, Big Lake, White Lake area, Hackberry, Joseph’s Harbor, Rockefeller, Forked Island, Pecan Island, Freshwater Bayou Canal, Cypremort Point, Grand Isle, Leeville, Barataria Bay, Venice, Houma area and Lake Pontchartrain. Targets - bridge pilings, rock piles and drains. Any areas that are “marshy” can produce. Baits: Fresh shrimp, tout tails, crawfish, spinners, mullet, Berkley Gulp, Mr. Twister Exude Shrimp (try this lure, I am getting good reports on Exude plastics). Slow presentations best!

In case you didn’t know: The Basin continues with a slow fall. This is good for the spawn. Consecutive warming days is also very good to help with the beginning of of the spawn. Back-to-back warming says will also turn on the ﬁsh bite and make it more comfortable for us to to be out on the water. Remember it’s the beginning of the Spawn Season. Please, release both male and female species at this time. They both have a tuff job to do between now and June. Please practice Catch, Kiss and Release. Thank you.
