The Sense of Place collection builds upon the belief in the importance of young children’s environments. Woven throughout this collection are four essential beliefs that serve as a foundation for this inviting collection.

Nature-aligned

Nature is the greatest teacher and main inspiration for this collection. Unlike straight edges which serve as boundaries, the furniture’s design includes many rounded elements which invite children into the classroom space.

Heart-centered Sensory-based

The home living furniture, such as the fireplace, comfortable couch and chair infused with nature’s colors, help young children feel right-at-home while creating habitats of refuge where children may find a little peace and quiet if needed.

The Sense of Place collection reflects the belief that children learn through their senses. Incorporated in its design are multiple layers of both visual and kinesthetic textures. Multi-layer textures in the design, format and materials spark children’s exploration and engagement.

Authentically-inspired

Beautifully crafted pieces using authentic, hardwood, natural materials and woven textiles invite children to explore both visually and kinesthetically. Natural objects reinforce a child’s connection to home and add organic touches and sensory-engaging textures to the classroom.

With over 45 years of experience and a doctorate in education, Dr. Duncan is an international consultant and an author of seven books focused on the environmental design of early childhood places. Sandra is bringing her years of theory and best practices to the early childhood classroom in the form of the Sense of Place furniture collection. With its modern aesthetics, many authentic and real-life details, and considerations for what the youngest of children need to thrive best in their first learning environments, the Sense of Place collection provides ECE educators a beautiful backdrop to creating the most meaningful and lasting of learning experiences in early education classrooms for years to come.
