The Global Change Institute (GCI) is a new building at St.Lucia Campus. The site is closed to the Great Court and UQ lakes. So, main concept is creating a new green zone to connect these places. The GCI is designed with four storeys building on one side whereas there is a roof garden on the other side. The bookstore is planned under this garden. The building is facing North – East to gather natural light during the day. The design is kept simple with a long thin building. There is a large tall atrium acting as heat storage and transfers through the roof. It also receives much sunlight and radiates the indirect light through other spaces.

THE GLOBAL CHANGE INSTITUTE (GCI) – ST. LUCIA CAMPUS
UQ is currently developing a Carbon Management Strategy (CMS) and has an established Environmental Management System (EMS). The project will complement and enhance both of these by incorporating the principles of sustainable buildings where appropriate, and complying and accommodating the operational requirements of the EMS. GCI will be designed for optimum environmental, water and energy performance and to incorporate a 1.2MW solar array that will be integrated into the campus solar grid system. The external facade will be integrated to form.
