Welcome to Quantum Thank you for considering Quantum Windows & Doors for your next project. Founded in 1982, we take tremendous pride in our work and strive to build the most beautiful window and door systems available today. Quantum’s products cover a comprehensive range of solutions for higher end residential and commercial applications. We accommodate multiple architectural styles from historical restoration to ground breaking contemporary designs. At the core of all we do is a passion for wood. The nature of wood speaks to warmth, durability and an abiding sense of security. We use clear vertical grain douglas fir for the majority of our products but regularly work with mahogany, sapele and teak. We often employ split species for additional design differentiation. We also accommodate salvaged, recycled and FSC certified woods. Beyond wood, we have introduced an extensive range of aluminum cladding options. We never compromise when it comes to our manufacturing processes. By blending contemporary production techniques with old world craftsmanship, we deliver complex systems within lead times more consistent with higher volume producers. Our in house glazing and finishing operations provide unparalleled control over product quality. To that end Quantum’s warranties are some of the most competitive in the window and door industry.

Complementing our products is a commitment to providing exceptional customer service at all levels of the process. The service experience begins with the initial design consultation, continues with internal project management and carries through to the delivery of finished product to the job site. We also offer extensive after sales programs that ensure continued customer satisfaction and repeat business. Thank you again for considering Quantum Windows & Doors and we look forward to working with you. Sincerely, The Quantum Management Team P: 1-800-287-6650 F: 1-888-834-0336 qsales@quantumwindows.com

Window Overview Quantum has been designing and building custom windows and doors for over 30 years, developing a reputation for meticulous craftsmanship, exceptional performance and an unequaled level of commitment to clients. Quantum currently builds four lines of windows depending on client preferences, needs and applications. Within each series is an almost unlimited design flexibility when it comes to profiles, stops and glazing.

Quantum Windows Series offers contemporary styling, narrow sight lines and Signature Series Windows Signature the ability to satisfy a wide range of applications and architectural styles. Legacy Series Windows

Classic Series offers an exceptionally clean, seamless line that satisfies all of the design requirements of modern building. Stile and rail construction allows Quantum to build larger units, offer multiple hinge and latching hardware and support large glass panels with a 21/4 common mullion for curtain wall or storefront applications. In applications where a clad product may be more desirable, we have added Quantum Clad to our list of Classic Series window options. Ask your Quantum Representative about the available styles, colors and pricing. Legacy Series represents a perfect blend of old world charm and new technology. Single, Double and Triple Hung windows are solid wood - no plastic jamb liners or tracks are utilized. Quantum offers spring loaded (concealed) or lead weight and chain balancers, allowing for extremely large units while maintaining easy operation.

Euro Series Windows

Euro Series provides the same multi point (Tilt/Turn) hardware found throughout much of Europe. Our design allows us to build large units that have the ability to swing in from the top (hopper) and swing in from the side (casement), in addition to center pivoting windows that swing in from the top and out from the bottom 180 degrees.

Signature Series Windows Quantum’s Signature Series offers casement, fixed, awning and special shaped windows with contemporary styling, narrow sight lines and large expanses of glass. The sleek framework nearly disappears as the contemporary look of the Signature Series puts the emphasis clearly on the glass. A more traditional appearance can be achieved through the addition of heavier sills, fixed sashes and true divided lites. Signature Series windows offer tremendous design flexibility along with the natural beauty and warmth of the finest wood species available. Clear Vertical Grain (CVG) Douglas fir is standard and yields a rich appearance that begs to be touched. Many other woods are available to complement the design and detail of the project, including dual species.

Classic Series Windows Classic Series windows provide the utmost flexibility in aesthetics, design and functionality. For use in contemporary architectural styles, the Classic Series is sleek in appearance. A common mullion system can be built to specified depths and utilized to create window wall systems that include both operable and fixed components. This creates the most narrow and clean appearance possible negating the need for any trim or mullion caps. A stainless steel four bar hinge is used standard. We also provide a butt-hinge option to satisfy egress requirements which can also be specified for units exceeding typical casement heights or if there is a desire to match hinges on adjacent doors. For ultimate security, the Classic Series window can be equipped with a true European multipoint latching system that latches the window along multiple locations around the perimeter of the sash with the use of a single window lever. Classic Series windows can be built as casements, awnings, rounds, arches, and window walls with a full array of options to complement your design palette. In applications where a clad product may be more desirable, we have added Quantum Clad to our list of Classic Series window options. Ask your Quantum Representative about the available styles, colors and pricing.

Legacy Series Windows Quantum’s Legacy Series windows offer the same traditional design and time tested operation and performance of traditional double hung windows while upgrading key components. The end result is a thoroughly modern window that maintains the aesthetics of the original design but with greatly improved energy and weather insulation. Among these improvements are the use of modern gasket and glazing technologies. Traditional lead weight balances with brass chain and flywheel operation remain an option, but the majority of our double hung windows have sashes supported by our concealed spring balance system. This unique balance system provides smooth sash operation while omitting the plastic or aluminum tracks that would detract from the beauty of an all wood window. The concealed balance negates the need for bulky weight pockets allowing for smaller window-to-window mullions and maximum glass and light. Quantum also offers casement (including double and French casement) and awning operation within the same frame and surround as our Legacy Series double hung windows. This system allows for a variety of different window operations within a single project while assuring that critical glass, muntin, and trim alignments are preserved.

Euro Series Windows Quantum’s Euro Series windows feature stile and rail construction, multi point locking hardware, and exceptional weather stripping. Versatile styles distinguish the Euro Series: pivot, tilt/turn and inswing windows. Pivot windows swing in at the top and out at the bottom providing equal ventilation. A stay mechanism holds the sash partially open and can be released to pivot the sash 180°. Multi point locking hardware provides secure closure at the sash rails. Tilt/Turn windows operate in two directions. They tilt in at the top providing ventilation without exposing the head of the window sash to the weather, and swing in like a casement providing an egress exit. The sash and jamb have a stepped, interlocking design fitted with exceptional weather stripping. An aluminum extrusion across the bottom captures water and directs it outside, even when the window is open. The Euro Series casement allows for oversized operable windows. The single handle and multi-point locking system make it advantageous for numerous applications. The in-swing French casement requires no center post and can be discretely screened on the exterior.

Slide & Fold Windows & Doors Bring the outdoors in with Quantum's Slide & Fold systems. This unique system joins multiple door panels (up to 8 panels in each direction) with a sliding and folding mechanism and delivers tremendous flexibility for large scale openings. When closed, Slide & Fold doors appear to be a wall of beautiful hinged doors. Fold open the doors and the wall virtually disappears leaving an unobstructed opening capable of spanning over 64 feet. Each door can be specified to slide and fold. For easy access, an independent hinged door can be integrated at multiple locations depending on configuration. Slide & Fold systems are configurable in many combinations including corner units requiring no center support. Our systems are top hung and may be specified as in-swing and out-swing. Optional heavy duty, multipoint locking hardware brings it all together for ease of opening, folding and sliding. Lift & Slide Windows & Doors Quantum Lift & Slide doors are a popular style for opening up large expanses. A single lever and wheels lift the panel off the sill and away from the weather stripping enabling motion with very little effort. A door weighing up to 880 pounds can be operated with ease. The Lift & Slide door system offers three significant advantages over conventional sliding doors. The doors run on two multi wheel carriages engineered to provide maximum support and incredibly smooth movement. Superior sealing capabilities engage when the door is in the locked position. Dual weather seals at the top, bottom and sides actually become tighter with increased door size.

Lift & Slide doors are designed to resist air and water infiltration better than other sliding door options. Multiple operable door panels slide and overlap each other, opening up amazingly wide spaces. Operable sliding panels combined with fixed panels result in a remarkable number of size and configuration possibilities, including corner units with no post. In applications where a clad product may be more desirable, we have added Quantum Clad to our list of door options. Ask your Quantum Representative about the available styles, colors and pricing.

Lift & Slide Windows & Doors Operation

To open the door, rotate the handle down 180°. A single lever and wheels lift the panel relative to the sill, taking the pressure off the weather stripping and eliminating drag. The doors run on two multi wheel stainless steel carriage systems which provide support as well as a silky smooth operation.   

Weather Seals

When the door is closed and the handle is rotated back up 180°, the panels are pulled toward the jamb and lowered onto the sill, engaging dual weather seals at the top, bottom and sides. 

Applications

Interior lever handle with exterior flush pull standard for primary active panel Panels do not require thumb turn or keyed lock unless exterior lever handles are specified All active panels must have at least an interior handle to facilitate the lift and slide function

Door sills must be shimmed level within +/- 1/32”

Lift & Slide doors beautify a large scale opening and they also offer versatility as interior doors where sound control is important. Pocket doors are another popular use for Lift & Slides.

Glazing Take a Closer Look at Quantum’s Glazing Process Today’s architectural features increasingly call for larger expanses of glass that require innovative approaches which blend structural performance with aesthetic design. Quantum Windows & Doors builds advanced systems that provide a visual connection to the world outside while enhancing the comfort and security of the spaces in which we work and live. Quantum is known throughout the industry for producing products with high optical quality. This is a result of stringent criteria for selecting glass and choosing performance based components with which to fabricate our Insulated Glazed Units (IGU’s) in house.

type is generally project specific and determined by preference, Glass Glass performance requirements or local building codes. Only the parts of the sheet glass that meet Quantum’s industry leading standards are selected and used, and the rest is recycled. performance and durability is determined by the integrity of the seal. Seal Glazing All of Quantum’s insulated units are dual sealed utilizing a specialized foam spacer, along with hot melt butyl sealant. Unlike metal spacers, Quantum’s spacers are manufactured with engineered foam that is flexible, nonconductive, and mold resistant. In addition to creating a cleaner shadow line, they absorb sound, withstand 140 degree temperatures, 95-100% humidity and UV rays. Quantum’s spacer system when combined with our hot melt butyl creates a dual seal that lasts up to 5 times longer than single sealed units. Consequently we offer the longest IGU warranty in the custom window industry - 15 years. Quantum’s products are wet glazed with sealants as opposed to using Installing IGU’s All double sided tape. This gives our products better performance, increased durability and strength. Our IGU’s are bedded into a layer of silicon and latex and then stopped in by hand using silicon and latex, as well as a silicon glazing sealant. Glazed units are then cured for 24 hours and cleaned before final inspection. offers a wide variety of glazing options including but not limited to Optional Glazing Quantum custom sticking and stop profiles, true divided lites, applied lead, art glass, Applications argon fill, tempered, tinted, obscure, sound control, and laminated. Wood Species Exterior Species There are over 100,000 species of wood. Many are indigenous to specific regions while others are found throughout the globe. The one element common to all wood is that every species is comprised of 60% cellulose and 28% lignin. The other 12% is made up of individual consistencies and colors. These attributes determine the best use and application for the lumber produced from a particular tree. Quantum has developed specific guidelines designating wood for interior and exterior applications. With few exceptions, the exterior woods that Quantum recommends are hardwoods with the ability to accept finishes, resist moisture, and exhibit other characteristics that promote durability. Structural integrity begins with wood strength, a combination of density (measured by specific gravity), compressive strength, bending strength, stiffness and hardness. The list below reflects the more popular species used for exterior applications.

Douglas Fir

True or Genuine Mahogany

Sapele

Pseudotsuga menziesii – First documented on Vancouver Island in 1791. Douglas Fir is one of the most important woods used in construction. Although a softwood, it is known for its stiffness and strength. Quantum uses only Clear Vertical Grain regardless of finish or application. CVG provides the best stability, most consistent grain, color and long term durability. Swietenia macrophylla – Grown in Southern Mexico to central South America. Much of the species referred to as Genuine Mahogany are currently plantation grown in select regions of the world. Mahogany coloring varies from pinkish brown to darker reddish brown that tends to darken with age. Excellent stability and beautiful grain. Entandrophragma cylindricum - From Central and West Africa. Medium to dark reddish brown and sometimes exhibiting a purple tinge. Sapele is often substituted for Mahogany since it possesses many of the same attributes, but due to its availability, is generally less expensive and tends to provide a more consistent finish.

grandis – A popular hardwood grown in Teak Tectona Southeast Asia, Teak is a straight grained yellow brown to dark golden brown wood known for oil content and weatherability. Teak is extremely resistant to moisture lending to its popularity in boatbuilding and outdoor furniture applications. Teak is a common choice for use in fabricating For more information please contact your Quantum Representative Quantum Windows & Doors, Inc. 800-287-6650 www.quantumwindows.com qsales@quantumwindows.com

Finishes Finishing Your Quantum Windows and Doors

Long term window performance is directly related to how a window or door is finished. Finish performance is dependent on several factors including the substrate to be coated, preparation, application, climate, exposure to environmental contaminants and maintenance. Evaluating your specific needs and selecting the appropriate finish, is a requisite step in determining expectations for the performance of your windows and doors regardless of the brand, composition, or coating.

Quantum’s finishing shop features drying racks surrounded by radiant heat, within an atmosphere of freshly filtered and circulated air.

Unlike more production oriented products available in today’s market, Quantum selects only premium graded lumber, based on grain configuration, stability and moisture content. This, in conjunction with our product’s design and precise joinery, ensures that the finish you select will be applied to the most dimensionally stable product available. Just as there are criteria associated with selecting the most appropriate exterior species, the finish specified should depend on aesthetic preferences, geographic location, site orientation and variations in temperature and altitude. Quantum products, when properly sealed with the appropriate finish, will provide years of performance and beauty. There are many great products on the market today, representing a broad spectrum of finish applications and technologies. Information is readily available that can help you determine what will work best for your specific needs. We are happy to discuss our recommendations based on our experience and your project’s individual requirements.

Highly qualified Quantum craftsmen operate cutting edge technology within generous shop space, excellent lighting and unlimited resources. In house finishing ensures that all glazing pockets, kerfs and mortises are sealed prior to glazing.

This warranty does not cover defects that occur as an inherent property of the wood used in the manufacture of QWD products.

Hardware Guidelines. Metal parts used in the production of your windows and doors were selected for both their aesthetic appeal and resistance to corrosion. The metal parts are corrosion resistant and not corrosion proof. The finish on metal parts can be affected if exposed to industrial chemicals, smog, coastal environments or standing water. Metal parts should be cleaned using the mildest cleaning method possible, such as a soft cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid cleaning with vinegar, citrusbased cleaners, paint removers, window cleaners, brick and siding cleaners, or other industrial or abrasive cleaners. These substances can damage the protective hardware finishes. Normal wear, discoloration of hardware, corrosion related damage, and breakage are not covered under this warranty. Warp and Twist. Warp and twist is any distortion in the product itself and does not refer to the relationship of the door or sash to the frame. Warp is measured by placing a taut string along the concave face of each stile. The distance from the concave face to the bottom of the string is the warp amount. Twist is measured by placing two taut strings along the concave face at the top of each stile and at the bottom of the opposite stile, to form a X. The distance between the two strings at the point of crossing is the amount of twist. Warp and twist is not considered a defect unless such exceeds 1/4” in doors less than 7’ high or exceeds 3/8” in doors up to 8’ high. The warranty against warp and twist does not apply to doors over 3’6” wide or 8’0” high. Minor swelling and shrinking of wood parts, particularly wood raised panels, is a normal wood characteristic that varies with seasonal humidity conditions and is not considered to be a defect. Small surface checking or slight shrinking or cupping that may cause tiny cracks may occur under certain conditions and are not covered under this warranty. The application of unbalanced finishes using different types of stain or finish on the two faces of the door will void this warranty. The maximum allowable warp and twist will not exceed 3/8” for any QWD door width and height combinations up to 96” in height and 42” in panel width. This includes 56mm and 68mm thick panels. For door panels greater than 42” x 96”, the test used is in any 42” x 96” section of the product. If there is a timely claim for warp or twist, Quantum may defer, at its option, taking action to remedy such a problem for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months from the date of the claim. If the door has been installed prior to such a claim being made, the door must remain in the original installation during the period of deferment to permit conditioning to humidity and temperature. Nothing stated herein shall extend the period in which a claim must be made or shall extend the warranty period beyond that which is stated above. Inspection, Maintenance and Touch-Up Guidelines. All exposed interior and exterior surfaces must be finished immediately. Primer alone is not a suitable barrier against exterior exposure. Failure to apply the final finish on all surfaces before any exposure to inclement weather and within the following days of delivery will void Quantum’s warranty: Raw: 7 days, Primer/Benite: 30 days, Paint/Stain: 60 days. The following inspection, maintenance and site touch-up guidelines must be followed in order to achieve desired results and maintain warranty coverage for QWD products. 1. Immediately seal (putty, caulk, finish, etc.) any areas where moisture could intrude behind the finish. This includes areas where the finish has been penetrated for hardware installation and nail holes created during glazing or install, etc. 2. Carefully inspect all product prior to installation. Store windows and

15/5/3 Limited Window & Door Warranty doors in such a manner as to protect them from moisture, extreme variations in temperature, dust and dirt, etc. 3. If the finish needs to be repaired, please refer to the finish manufacturer’s guidelines for repairing your particular finish. General finish repair can be accomplished as follows: Clean the surfaces to be coated with a standard exterior cleaning solution of 2 oz. TSP (trisodium phosphate), 1 quart bleach and 3 quarts of water before application of the coating. If surface sanding is necessary, additional cleaning will be required following sanding. Any breach in the coating exposing raw wood is reason for recoating. Left uncorrected, a breach can lead to coating failure. 4. When coating a door or window allow finish to dry completely before closing. Never paint weather-stripping. 5. At a minimum, annual inspections, cleaning and potential maintenance coats are required to maintain warranty coverage and will help to ensure that the effects of exposure to contaminants, e.g. dust, dirt, mildew and salt are minimized. Contaminants are key factors in the degradation of finish over time. In general, horizontal surfaces are the most susceptible to damage and may require more frequent maintenance. Highly exposed products should be inspected and cleaned at least twice annually. Quantum does not recommend clear or dark finishes for exterior exposure. Failure to follow any of these guidelines will void this warranty. 6. QWD Exterior Cladding Finishes must be cleaned with mild detergent soap and water at least on an annual basis outside of coastal regions and cleaned at least on a quarterly basis within coastal regions to remove any potentially corrosive build-ups. Refer to Quantum Clad Care Instructions for further information. Failure to do so may, at the sole discretion of QWD, void the warranty. Limitations and Exclusions. This warranty does not cover, and QWD will not be responsible for, incidental costs or damages or consequential costs or damages including, but not limited to, water damage, shipping expenses, or removal, reinstallation and refinishing of windows and doors. QWD does not warrant flush panel doors and 1 3/8” doors used in exterior applications. Oversized sashes are not warranted for warp, twist and sagging as defined QWD shop drawing process. This warranty does not extend to product that is altered, abused, or installed in unusual, abnormal or extreme situations as determined by QWD. This warranty does not extend to glass units installed 15 degrees or more from vertical, units with angles other than 90 degrees or units larger than 50 square feet. Scratches, smudges and other blemishes can occur and are not necessarily a defect. Refer to ASTM C1036-06 for further guidelines. Specifically, items not covered under warranty include, but are not limited to, applied lead, leaded glass, etched glass, sandblasted glass, radius glass, art glass, butt glazed IGUs installed without corner caps, HeatMirrortm glass, electric or electronic components. Insulated glass units not manufactured by QWD may be covered by the warranty expressed or implied by the manufacturer of the insulated glass unit. This warranty does not extend to product that is field-glazed by others, is not installed, finished or maintained in accordance with QWD’s published guidelines, is incorrectly or improperly installed, shows variations in the color and grain of the natural wood, appears

discolored caused by weathering, or has films applied to the glass surface. Lightening and darkening of the natural color of wood will occur with age and is not considered to be a defect. Wood surface checks, cracks, miter and other wood joint shrinkage are not considered a defect unless such exceeds 1/32” in width. Natural expansion of the wood or pitch seepage is not considered a defect. This warranty is null and void if product is repaired or replaced without first obtaining the written consent of QWD, or conditions stated herein are not followed. NOTE: Certain QWD supplied product may not be covered under this warranty. The architect, contractor and/or party responsible for placing the order was advised of any non-warranted items through shop drawings and/or quote. This warranty does not cover parts or components (e.g., locksets, handles, etc.) not sold by QWD to the original owner. We are not liable for:  Normal wear and tear, including normal wear and tear of weatherstrip; and natural weathering of surfaces or variations in the color or texture of wood or finish; surface cracks that are less than 1/32” in width and/or 2” in length.

Problems due to misuse, abuse, failure to follow the care and maintenance instructions; or as a result of any cause beyond our reasonable control (e.g. fire, flood, earthquake, other acts of nature, and acts of third parties outside of our control).
