is one of cycling's heavyweights, and their range for model year 2014 includes two intriguing additions. The Addict, once Scott's signature ... With the greater part of cycling’s massively expanding cohort typically among the middle aged, demand for the endurance/ performance/sportive bike, typically one with a taller head tube, longer top tube, and longer wheelbase than its race-oriented stablemates, shows no signs of slowing. Enter the Solace. While the more upright geometry synonymous with the breed has made some ‘sportive’ bikes the ugly sister of their sleek, race-inclined cousins, the silhouette of Scott’s new bike is, well, rather beautiful. Its swooping, bridge-free seat stays (the rear brake is chainstay mounted), internal cable routing (suitable for mechanical and electronic cables) and muscular bottom bracket are the key contributors to a silhouette that promises performance. Available in 12 sizes, with size-specific tubing, and a claimed 890-gram frame weight in a 54cm, Scott’s commitment to the Solace is obvious. Is it justified?

Cycle Show is partnering with Ride UK for a second year to run the Shop Battle contest for flow riders from BMX shops. The Shop Battle will take place on the show's trade day on Thursday 26th September and will give BMX shops the opportunity to showcase their flow riders and compete against each other for a chance to win £1000 in prize money courtesy of Red Bull Flow, a year of online advertising on Ride UK BMX, and a JVC Adixxion HD camera. The four riders from the finals also each get a free place on the pro park contests on Friday to Sunday at the show. Lifer BMX from Tavistock won the first Shop Battle in 2012 with Notion from Leeds grabbing second place. Keep an eye out for Lifer’s Tom Isted and Jay Openshaw who are sure to be up for winning the trophy and that fat cheque for the shop.
