A ‘total-solutions’ approach to healthcare disinfection
INFECTION prevention and housekeeping teams have more choice than ever before. Conventional products are still widely used but new formulations and technologies can complement, enhance or replace existing processes. Diversey’s ‘360’ or total-solutions approach offers traditional products alongside innovations. This provides healthcare professionals with total flexibility to choose the most suitable hand and surface disinfection solutions for their specific requirements.
Cleaner-disinfectants, disinfectants and wipes in Diversey’s Oxivir range contain patented AHP (accelerated hydrogen peroxide) as the active ingredient. These products offer broad-spectrum protection - they are effective against a wide range of viruses, spores, yeasts, and fungi, including C. diff, MRSA, Norovirus, E. coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Products in the range kill viruses in 30 seconds in dirty conditions. Their efficacy has been tested to the latest EN standards, including EN14476. This is the virucidal standard that covers enveloped viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, the one that causes COVID-19. Oxivir products can be used on a wide range of surfaces without many of the drawbacks of traditional disinfectants. The active ingredient degrades to water and oxygen shortly after use, enhancing the sustainability of the product.
Using UV-C light
The latest chemical-free disinfection technology utilises the power of UV-C light. Diversey’s Moonbeam3 disinfection technology is used in many UK hospitals in daily routines to disinfect large areas and hard to reach places. The portable unit is positioned in a room and turned on for a few seconds, during which the UV-C light it emits kills pathogens on surrounding surfaces. Recent independent tests proved MoonBeam3 disinfection technology was effective against SARS-CoV-2 under a range of conditions, with contact times as low as four seconds delivering a 6-log reduction (99.9999% or million-fold) in the number of virus particles.
Unlike fogging and similar techniques, relatively little setup time is required and the room can be used immediately after disinfection is finished. Although UV-C is not designed as a replacement for deep cleaning or regular disinfection of frequent touch surfaces it is effective as an adjunct to complement these processes.
Frequent hand cleaning is the other critical aspect of infection prevention. Diversey offers a complete range of soaps, sanitisers and foams including formulations for frequent use. Products in the range meet numerous infection prevention standards, including EN14476.
Diversey hand disinfectants are suitable for fixed, portable and personal dispensing equipment. Product availability - key to infection prevention compliance - is maximised when they are used with Diversey’s IntelliCare system. This dispenser offers contactless operation to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between users. It switches automatically to manual operation if its batteries become discharged. The dualdosing capability allows operators to select the appropriate amount to dispense depending on the application and user. Accurate dosing during each activation prolongs the life of each container and reduces the risk of product running out. IntelliCare supports complete interchangeability because different products are available in the same size high-capacity containers.
The growing choice of products and techniques for infection prevention means there is a potential solution for every setting and application. Choosing the right product or combination to achieve the most effective outcomes is not always easy. Diversey continues to invest in its range and uses its healthcare experience to work alongside infection prevention and housekeeping teams to devise and implement effective, productive and sustainable solutions.
