AN “INSIGHT” OUT PERSPECTIVE STEVE JOBS AND QUARTZ+CO ON TOP OF THE LIST
GLOBALISATION 3.0
D
enmark’s leading business newspaper, Børsen, placed a Quartz+Co book second on their top list of books at the end of 2011. Unfortunately, we were unable to squeeze past the international bestseller about Steve Jobs, which was ranked as a welldeserved number one on the list.
“Globalisering på dagsordenen” (in Danish) is published by Gyldendal Business, 180 pages, 300 Danish kroner. The book is written by Annette Christiansen, Kennet Hammerby and Lars Bo Hansen. ISBN: 978-87-02-11592-5. The book is available at www.gyldendalbusiness.dk
Globalisation is a word used at random in many contexts. It’s a topic that has been heard time and time again during the last couple of years, and you might feel that you’ve heard it all before. Yet in our book, the three authors have succeeded in articulating the subject from a new point of view – not dominated by doomsday prophecies but through easily comprehensible tools for companies that want to place globalisation on the strategic agenda. The authors are clear about the fact that globalisation is neither new nor revolutionary. However, the characteristic that makes Børsen and others recommend this book is its practicability. It describes globalisation not as a range of obstacles and negative effects, but as a wide variety of possibilities to optimise the efficiency and revenue of a business. “The book promises to be a practical and accessible guide on how to get started with a globalisation strategy. It delivers on that promise,” Børsen wrote on December 14, 2011, in
their review of the book. The authors provide a set of tools for how to handle the challenges and opportunities which are the inescapable effects of globalisation, and hereby reveal the company’s potential in a globalised world. The book is written with the conviction that companies’ ability to accept and cope with globalisation will be a decisive factor for their survival. With this in mind, the book elegantly transforms a complex and impalpable subject into a manageable how-to guide.

ovo Nordisk, Danfoss, FLSmidth, NKT Holding and Carlsberg are some of the companies included in the book as tangible cases of companies who have increased their their revenues and profits by adopting a global strategy. “Globalisation on the agenda” is a book recommended to every company that finds it difficult to get a solid grip on what globalisation really means and would like to know how to cope with it. The book highlights the biggest and most important trends in globalisation today and demonstrates what a globalisation strategy ought to look like. According to Børsen in December 2011 “this book is the best New Year’s present for your boss”.
