Become a QMentor with Queen Mary University of London

• Over 70% of students agreed mentoring helped to improve their understanding of how to write persuasive job applications.

What is QMentoring?

Who are we looking for?

QMentoring connects undergraduate students, from the Faculties of Science & Engineering and Humanities & Social Sciences, with a member of our alumni community, or a UK-based professional. Through these one-to-one relationships, students are supported to make better informed career choices, develop their employability skills, and gain confidence with applying for graduate job roles.

To become a QMentor, you must have the following: • A minimum of three years’ professional experience (exceptions can be made in some circumstances). • Availability to support a student for 6 months on a voluntary basis (we ask mentors to meet with mentees for a minimum of 1 hour per month). • A genuine interest in helping young people from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds to improve their employment prospects. • The ability to provide a student with firsthand insight into your current profession and industry.

Benefits of being a QMentor As a QMentor, you will have the opportunity to: • Gain personal satisfaction from helping a young person with their career development. • Reflect on your own work practices and hear fresh perspectives from those who are soon-to-be entering your industry. • Enhance your professional development and acquire new skills such as, leadership and communication. • Improve your professional networks by attending events and joining our LinkedIn group. • Raise the profile of your organisation amongst University staff and students.

• 80% of students agreed their mentors had successfully assisted them to set and achieve career goals.

Please note, if you would like to become a QMentor, you must also attend an induction session and a launch evening, where you will meet with your mentee for the first time.
